If we finally get to travel to France and if we have to isolate on the way back where do we do that.
I have checked the Gov. website but it really only covers someone flying into the country. I haven't yet found any info for if you come into the country through the channel ports.
We have a tunnel booking going out in September returning October. Given where we live we could not get home in one go.
The website only really mentions isolating at home or the place you have put down on your form. I can't see campsites wanting folk doing 10 days isolation on return from an amber country.
Has anyone found out more than I have, I'm finding very difficult to get answers. I know things can change on a daily basis so just trying to get as much info in advance incase we do get the opportunity to go.

Yes, that’s correct. My son did that when he landed at Heathrow from Hong Kong late at night and couldn’t get here that night to isolate with us. He told them what he was going to do and that he would come down on the train the next day. There were no objections and no checks that he then spent ten days with us.

Been there on several occasions we used to use it for refueling and R&R whilst doing Beira patrol
this is what it says re the Beta Variantr (south African)

this is all good if you are flying in, but what happens if France goes on the RED LIST and you are wanting to cross the channel with your LV, for red list countries you are supposed to isolate in a government provided hotel at £1700, surely you cant just leave your LV on the quay side ???

Anyone coming from a Red list country has to arrive by air - there are 7 permitted airports for arrival in UK. So if France went on to the Red list you would have the choice of either staying there with your vehicle, or putting it into storage there and flying in to one of those airports. But it’s not likely to happen, is it.

Tks just what i wanted to know, dont care if France go on the Red List or any other country for that matter, cxld our France/Spain trip for this year, why you might ask?, sat at beach house 28 degs sea like a mill pond, just waiting for it to come in a bit before going in for a swim, who needs France, Spain, Reunion, Seychelles (just saw news flash that they have got covid bad), if i am going to catch it may as well catch it at home

Thanks AD and WTG for the info. Couldn't find anything on the GovScot site, no surprise there I suppose as she doesn't want anyone to go on holiday.
I remember last year checking it out and I thought we could do an overnight stop but things have changed since then.
I also seem to remember that last year you could travel through a country on the naughty step as long as you didn't get out and mix with folk, then use the tunnel to return home meaning no contact so no quarantine required. Don't know if that still stands or not.
Our other option I suppose is to defer the inbound tunnel to next year and use Rotterdam Hull to come back, its an easy drive home in a day from there.
So many things to think of 'just in case' we get to go. Will it be worth it

it will go eventually as did the plague both times. Sadly in those days there was no vaccine but also travel was much much slower. It will be ?interesting? to see if this is eventually longer or shorter duration because of vaccines and travel. Though I expect most of us will be long gone before it becomes clear.
A bit like the sea, wind and the weather humans may think they can control our world but its being proven that they can't.
I think if we want the vaccines to be successful we do need as many folks as possible and able to be vaccinated and not cross contaminate with over mixing until this has happened. Sadly this is not what is happening here, we almost get to the final furlong and let go too soon. Very sad but it will be herd immunity in the end. So it might as well have been from the beginning with the vaccine helping. 😪😤🤐

We might just have to go to one of the kids and camp out on their drive
at least they can do our shopping and the tests in England are a fraction of what we have to pay up here. Glass still half full

Well, I find NS's updates a model of clarity and forthrightness, in contrast to what we hear elsewhere, perfectly dissected in the book Failures of State which nails Boris's total incompetence - and this from 2 of The Sunday Times's investigative journalists, a publication which is a Tory supporter.
Maybe if you don't like living in "wee nippy's" Scotland you should consider moving to Boris's nirvana, the one that a load of international scientist has decribed as a danger to world health. I'll even help with your expenses.

I’m with you, both Wales & Scotland’s leaders make decisions for the benefit of their people not businesses. I am sick of all the business leaders whining about profits-they would rather see people risk their lives than lose money. It ain’t working mind-the country is opening up & folk are going straight back into self-isolation due to a Covid-19 contact. Next move-The Govt will disable the NHS app☹️

Just been reading an article in today’s telegraph re the keeping of quarantine for returners from France. Reckoning there is no logic to it and it is politically motivated. Or if not that many other EU countries will be joining it including Spain. Also they make the point that as of midnight tonight everyone going to France will have to have a test within 24 hours of arrival, which of course will have to be negative to proceed. If correct that was slipped in quietly, I have not seen it mentioned before.

The 24 hour test is for only the unvaccinated, and is 24 hours prior to departure, not arrival as your post suggests. For those on longer crossings the difference in timing is critical. But it also doesn't have to be a PCR test, an antigen test with a Fit to Travel certificate is accepted, and the results of these can be back within minutes. Dual Vaccinated people do not require any tests at all to enter France, but do require Proof of Vaccination (NHS App for England) and a Declaration d'Honneur that they are not suffering from Covid19.
There is now a French Passe Sanitaire which will be required in an increasing number of venues, with immediate effect on some. The French Tousanticovid will accept a scan of the QR codes for vaccinations from the Travel Section of the NHS App (see my separate post).0 -
Looks like France might be going back on the Amber list soon, it would appear they have contained the Beta outbreak so no longer need to be Amber+ good news all round.
The government are also looking at accepting overseas vaccine status for expats and others. This will be a great help to those who wish to come back to the UK to see loved ones.
Covid new cases are down again in Scotland, that's over a week now they have been coming down. Hospitalisations are still increasing but at a much slower pace now. Fingers crossed that things are stabilising. Still need some of our young folk to take up the vaccine.
