We are looking forward to going back to the continent but just worried that the freedom to roam just wont be there and there is always going to be that nag at the back of the mind - are we safe? Will we have to return early? Is everything open? How will we be received over there? Will site/cafe/bar owners be thinking 'What are these Brits doing over here in a pandemic?'

Just going to wait and see but have not given up hope!

Geejay, it wasn’t “rules and regulations”, it was advice.

You yourself  may choose to accept all the advice that is offered , or you may not.  But anyway, as two of us have pointed out,  the government has already decided to withdraw the advice it was offering.

My calendar shows we are not yet at the 19th. And replies prove my point that some think the advice doesn't apply to them. Lets remember how this virus travels. Read Failures of State.

Geejay, the facts are plain. There are far more chances of catching and spreading Covid in the disease hotspots here in Cornwall than in most of France. For safety’s sake you should go across the Channel.

    Really !!!!!

"Ministers are considering adding France to the travel red list, The Telegraph has learnt, with officials ordered to conduct a "deep dive" into data concerning the spread of the South African/beta variant. ..."

M.Macron has hinted that Covid vaccination may be made compulsory for all in France ,if the Delta Variant situation continues to worsen. He has already declared that Covid vaccination for Health Workers is to be mandatory. What the implications for UK tourists visiting France may be ,in regard to proof of vaccination status, remains to be seen.A fast moving situation in which developments could catch a UK tourist out.France is also to put Spain back onto its Red List,so transit trips to Spain may become problematic.I am staying put in the UK until I can judge in which direction events are moving.I would love to travel to France and Spain again,in our MH, but I just feel that it would be very unwise to attempt this right now.

Even though I’m double vaccinated, I think I would have less chance of catching Covid in less populated areas, such as Continental Europe, on a pitch by the sea. I am however (and will continue to do so) following government advice, for what it’s worth! It beggars belief some of their decisions when we see the crowds at venues such as Wembley and Wimbledon, to name just 2. I certainly wouldn’t entertain venturing out anywhere in the UK at present - it’s far too crowded for me, particularly now with school holidays just a week or two away and campsites full to bursting.

Edit: I’m also counting my blessings that I’ve stayed put and not travelling anywhere at the moment after seeing the catastrophic events in Belgium and Germany. It’s an area I travel en route to Croatia. The scenes of devastation are unheard of and with more heavy rain forecast today hopes and prayers are with those affected.

We are going soon for 5 weeks. Lateral flow test before is easy to arrange. Double vax so easy entry to France. On return a 29 euro lateral flow at a local Pharmacy in France then just the day 2 PCR on return.

I guess today it is ok for the going, what happens if France goes on the red list and the coming back, i guess you would have to leave your rig somewhere and go into a government hotel for 14 days at some considerable cost undecided

Or just stay there till it comes green or amber again.laughing

There is no logic to the Red/Green/Amber and Government should publish criteria of how they decide, less infections over there yet we have them as a higher rating than ourselves who have the highest rate in Europe, total madness.

Only to be expected if you go to tourist hotspots, David. You could have enjoyed Dartmoor in relative seclusion.

I think it is the South African variant that is spreading quite rapidly thru France that is the problem, and the government did say they would shut down countries that had new variants especially as we do not know just how effective our vaccine will be against these undecided

Yep, there is, it'll be the size of the place.

So why pass unfavourable comment about a popular place being crowded - it’s to be expected🤷🏻‍♂️.
