My Sat nav takes many inputs including lat / long which I use. It does not take what three words. Which is an excellent tool especially in emergency situations where verbal communication is used. As just like the phonetic alphabet it is less likely to be misunderstood.

I’m realising you’re not one for new things BB, you seem to be stuck in the past, there is nothing wrong with the old ways but they are always superceded by better, quicker & more user friendly things. I’ll stick to W3W thanks👍🏻

PS-the past cannot be changed-the future is always changing🙂

I’m happy for you👍🏻, each to their own I say. I like everything in my phone, easy access without it cluttering up the dash.

BB, I think your knowledge of IT back then is far removed from today’s IT It’s a lifetime away. W3W gives me a 3mtr square to land on by pushing buttons-that’s technology👍🏻

PS-you & I are totally different we will never agree on most things. That suits us both👍🏻, enjoy your day😊

My Dash isn’t cluttered with with a sat nav. The car does have one which is fitted in neatly at the factory. I very rarely use it.
I had a look at that W3W, as a thick Lancastrian it looks like a lot of faf to me. As for the Phone I make sure that is well out of the way when I drive. I don’t even use the blue tooth to make it hands free.

3 or 4 years ago on one of my school runs with the mini bus I used to go down a lane with a sign at each end saying “unsuitable for motor vehicles” . Every now and then a 44 ton artic would come down it the other way, no problem I would pull into a passing place because they were to small for him, we would give each other a friendly wave and carry on our journeys.

Moral don’t always believe road signs.

DT-you said you still use Maps, we were talking about W3W I have it on my phone on the dash if you are making comparisons then you have the map on your Dash, if it isn’t on your dash then you are not looking where you are driving as you’ll have it elsewhere. If you are not making comparisons then why post🤷🏻‍♂️🤔. It’s not an issue if you got confused👍🏻

As I said I hardly ever use the sat nav. The w3w came up when sat nav were mentioned. All 3 are navigation aids.As for the map I can remember the route plotted and don’t have to keep looking at the dash. When you plot your route you remember which motorway junction to come off at and which towns to head for, so follow the road signs, they still have them even with all the technology. I used to drive wagons all over the uk and Europe before sat nav was invented so used map and roadsigns.

What I have read on this post is not only about W3W have a look back at all that posts.

Here’s the thing BB, this is impressive-the emergency services have adopted it. The emergency services need to get to the destination ASAP lives depend on it👍🏻. We have an accord. . .I am both comfortable with W3W & I’m impressed with it, folk who don’t mind wasting time can go old school, I agree👍🏻😊

As you mentioned BB what ever system you use it has to be entered some how. If I was putting them in my sat nav I can’t see that W3W would be any easier than lat and long, even if it supported the system. Where W3W comes into its own is in an emergency situation, where you don’t know the area and you can pull your phone out and easily tell folk where you are. I agree, for finding a camp site there is really nothing to choose between them, they are just different ways to achieve the same ends. As is a good map and the ability to read it.

Do you mean emergency services like Mountain rescuers who have recently questioned the accuracy of using the W3W App citing dozens of examples where the wrong address was given to their teams?

According to BB that means old school lat/long coordinates are wrong too. Mayhap you should walk that back SB or the world will stop spinning🤷🏻‍♂️🙄

Although when you see the lack of preparedness of some folk in the mountains. Totally inappropriate foot ware and no hard copy map for two. I would question wether they could communicate their correct position using any system.

The earth is a globe, there isn’t any location that can’t be pinpointed with 2 coordinates. A grid sounds like something the flat earth society would approve of. At least you’ve acknowledged it spins, that gives us hope.

Yes, but they’re probably in less jeopardy than reported locations that turned out to be in Vietnam?

Just to remind you of what you said SB I’ve quoted it for you to refresh your memory. So-if mountain rescue reckon W3W is wrong then BB who knows about these things said it’s based on Latitude/Longtitude so the age old lat/long is wrong too😱😱. Would you like to change your mind now👍🏻🤣🤣

Not quite the case R2B. If you mispronounce a word, the position could be well off. The lat and long positions are still correct for the mispronounced location.
