I am surprised that any EU country wants UK tourists at present. Take Portugal - 6 weeks ago they were put onto UK Green List. At that time their daily infection rate was 39 cases average per day. Welcome UK and Indian (Delta) variant. Six weeks later and Portugal daily rate has increased 450% to 282. With the Euro match at that time there would likely have been more Spanish tourists than normal also. I don't see it as a coincidence that their infection rates are also rapidly increasing.

Our rates 6 weeks ago where around 30 to 35% from memory.  Now increased over 900% to 327 per day. The Delta variant will obviously become the dominant strain in mainland Europe as in UK. The longer this takes to happen the more time for residents of other countries to get fully vaccinated. At that time entry into Portugal were less strict than now but why take the risk of any additional Delta seeding events?.

I saw on TV yesterday  Lord Darroch, the former British ambassador to the US, speaking about how the EU now reacts to us. He said that had we still been a member the likelihood is that many of the irritations getting in the way of us being able to travel to the EU due to COVID would have been looked at more sympathetically and probably wouldn't exist. But now they are treating us as they would any other third country. This unfortunately is causing frustration not only to those that want to travel but also to countries that want to receive us. We are into the second year of restrictions and heaven forbid there is a third year of restrictions but it will eventually get back to some semblance of normal!!! Sadly for some it will be too late by then.

    “Who or what to believe?”

Maybe nobody, and nothing, till one needs to know?

I am booked on a cruise in late October and have a cut off date for changes/cancellation etc. As that approaches I will need to make a decision and will be “on it”.

Before that I take an interest in what may be possible, Club offerings, Brittany Ferries etc, in the knowledge that doing so is akin to the Hokey Cokey!

Member states in the EU are free to make their own decisions on such matters.

I guess if the cap fits i should wear it, but i dont have a problem with that, you just need to come to grips with the fact that we have left the EU there is no going back, probably be nothing left to go back to judging by the level of discontent within the EU, and get on with life, accept it for what it is now and move on, something I find very easy to do, but you seem to find very difficult, and unlike you my glass is always overflowing and is full of lights at the end of the tunnel undecided, maybe driving thru one at the end of the month laughing

But the point he was making was if we were still a member it was more likely to be an amicable collective response compare to us being outside the "Club" where we have to deal with every country as a separate entity.

With the more positive, or perhaps less negative, vibes appearing in the news, I am becoming slightly more optimistic that we may be able to go on our planned holiday 'over there' at the end of August.  In anticipation of being able to do so we are getting all the planning sorted.  We have 2 options.  First using our 4 times postponed Tunnel booking then into Belgium, Germany (to visit family), then Austria and Italy.  If that is not possible, postpone, yet again, our tunnel booking and book Brittany Ferries to Caen and stay in France.  We will make our decision first week in Aug, if we have to delay, yet again, so be itcry

Very much the same situation we are in.

We have a return tunnel crossing booked for the begining of September, also amended several times already.

We have a voucher for BF valid for 2 years. If we are unable to travel through/to  France then it will be amend again and use the BF voucher to go to Spain if that is permitted.

I feel fairly optimistic that we will get away this time.

We also have a flight to Lanzarote for the end of November to visit our timeshare, again this looking more possible.

Personally and selfishly the longer they take to open up travel the better chance we have of getting away.

We missed the window last year by days after they opened up for summer travel, it was shut down again in August.

I know this would not be a popular choice for families who only have the school summer hols to get away but I did say it would be a selfish wish.

I think for the majority of folk who have abided by the rules and done as we have been asked, its very frustrating to see others who have not and have caused more delays and lockdowns.

Fingers crossed this time it happens.

This is just a general bit of info, applying to all of us, it looks like Covid booster jabs will start in September so plans could be affected.

Same here, David. OH and myself had our 2nd vaccination in early May, and were told at the time that we’d probably be invited for the planned booster in November. So plenty of flexibility to hopefully get some travel in, wherever, before then.

    🙂🤞

And us as well.  Hopefully Pharmacies will be able to do the jab, much easier than waiting for the doctor's to organise.  Flu jab in one arm and Covid Booster other arm pleasesmile.

We've been told that the booster in Wales will probably be done on a "6 month after your second vaccine" rota basis, which will take both of us to the beginning and end of November. Don't know what other UK Govs have planned.

We are still under 70, just. Therefore as they are likely to repeat the previous vulnerability groups, I can’t see us getting ours before the end of October / early November.

Delta variant drives Spain’s Covid-19 rate to highest in mainland Europe

"As of last Friday, infection rates passed the threshold for classifying Spain as “red” according to EU guidelines, which means travel to and from the country should be discouraged."

Even if Spain et al manage to get infection rates under control, projections of 50+k daily infections here (which some experts seem to be comfortable with) must mean most EU states will shut the door to UK visitors?

The UK is only really bothered about hospitalisation and deaths, for many EU states it’s still the infection and R rate that drives their thinking.

AD, Shop around. On your return you need not pay more than £48 per person, per test.

By the way things are going on your return we could all be back in a lockdown and those returning, from whatever country, could well have to go into quarantine.
