Another interesting set of observations, this time at Keilder :-

There appears to be paucity of young Ospreys this year, with eggs not hatching, newborns not surviving, nests being destroyed, and parent birds getting injured and unable to bring food. The heavy rain last month could well have been a major cause for quite a few deaths. Those that are surviving appear to be doing well now, so fingers crossed that they all survive to fledge fully and eventually leave their nests to return in a few year's time.

The Rutland clutch seemed to be doing well last week. Not left the nest yet though.

But only two this year, CY, compared to 4 in previous years. The pair have been ringed on the 19th, Blue 095 a female and Blue 096 a male. Those at Foulshaw Moss are also doing well.

Not found anything about the wrecking of the nest but found these reports:
There are reports of the two birds fishing in Llyn Brenig and the adjacent Llyn Alwen. Some have speculated that they may have established another nest away from Brenig;
and check on the Llyn Brenig cam and found LJ2 and presumably LM6 on the perch - both had a fish.
so the pair are still about and may have built another nest in the area. It is hoped that they will both return next year to the nest as a pair.

Went to Foulshaw Moss this morning, good views of the ospreys. The warden expects the 3 young to leave the nest in about 3 weeks time.
Also heard a “whisper” that a pair are nesting at Meathop Moss. Will take a stroll over there tomorrow morning and report back.🙂

Excellent views of ospreys at Meathop Moss today, just a stroll away from the Club’s site.
Follow the boardwalks round clockwise After the S bends, before the path turns back on itself, check out the group of 4 trees on your left. The nest is clearly visible and the birds showing well. Worth a visit. 🙂

Wonder if either of the pair are related to those at Foulshaw Moss, just up the road? The Ospreys are not mentioned on the CWT web page for that Moss. A well kept secret I guess.
Did you hear any whispers about those that have previously nested at Roudsey Woods, as they are not listed as having arrived there this year on the UKOsprey web site?

Would imagine the Meathop birds must be related to the Foulshaw ospreys, as you say, just up the road. The sightings are recorded on the information board at Meathop, but no mention on the website, for whatever reason. And, no, not heard any more whispers!
We’re home now, only took a couple of hours, filled up the garden feeders and are planning our next trip. Shropshire, maybe, if we’re not locked away in East Lancs of course, fingers crossed. 🙂1 -
There has plenty of ringing of the Osprey chicks going on across the country, with 7 next sites listed so far on the ukosprey website, http://ukospreys.uk/arr21.htm
The first to fledge has been, as expected, at Manton Bay where the male (096) took his first flight today at 12:12.

Keilder's young Ospreys are doing well, and they half way through fledgings now, with 8 juveniles airborne from 4 nests.

Great news from Keilder with regard to their Ospreys
"Today we confirmed that all sixteen juveniles in Kielder Forest have fledged successfully. That’s six better than our previous best year, so ‘super’ seems a bit of an understatement!
Fledging began on 16 July at Nest 1A, and possibly ended yesterday at Nest 2, so it has been a drawn out process across the 7 active nests."

Always glad to oblige. It is nearly time for the departure of this year's young. Manton Bay 's chicks are 98 and 96 days old now.

This post should now read "The Ospreys are going" as it appears that the migration to warmer winter climes has started. Surprisingly the first young, from a monitored site, that have headed off are not the eldest fledglings, ie those at Manton Bay, where there appears to be fair bit of sibling rivalry, but the 2 from nest 1A at Keilder, 266 Embley and 230 Eals, who are 2 weeks younger, along with their mother, Mrs YA. None of these have been seen on their nest since 15th of this month.

A trifle disconcerting. Does that mean we are in for a long winter?

Perhaps it just means that those from up north are hardier and more fearless than their southern counterparts.

Brian, I have just read that this year's female chick from Loch of the Lowes, LR1, also departed on the 15th, or at least not been seen since, which unusual in it's self as the resident female is usually the first to go.

Looking at the links to the monitored next sites it would appear that nearly all the juveniles have left for their winter climes, although there are still plenty of adults about. They too should be heading off shortly. Perhaps the delay in them going is that they have spent the last week's feeding up their offspring to the detriment of themselves, and are now bulking up before departure.

Brian, there are reports of two of this year's juveniles from Keilder being seen over the channel, one in France and another photographed in Spain, at El Hondo, S Alicante. One of the adults UV is now down at Poole Harbour, where he was photographed yesterday.

And one of my neighbours had a break in Yorkshire last week, only got home on Monday 13th. On a coach tour on Sunday the On-coach Yorky expert pointed out an osprey over the moors { which I said must be a First Year Bird } but they had no bird guide to verify the 'experts' statement . could it be due to climate change, global warming, or has the daft tweet found a welcome in the fish side ?
