Engine Battery Trickle Charger

I have a Peugot Boxer 1.9 and have sometimes had difficulty starting it when unused for a while.

I have used a trickle charger - but this year, when I went to use the van, the battery was dead.

I had it checked and am told the battery is fine and just needs to be run. Also, that the trickle charger I was using was of little use, if any. Can anyone recommend a suitable trickle charger?

    CTEK are the default setting. They are an intelligent charger that you attach and leave. Many classic car owners use them as do car main dealers on showroom vehicles.

    Some will say invest in a solar panel.... which can be linked to an onboard charger that deals with both cab & leisure batteries....

    If it is primarily for cab/engine depending on where you keep it & have power C-tek chargers/conditioners are excellent products.....

    I'm sure more learned folk will offer up alternatives!

    Why not just use your EHU cable as if you are on site.  The onboard charger should keep your leisure and engine battery charged.  You may need a simple adaptor to enable you to use a 13 amp socket at home.

    Another vote for CTEK. I use one on a car which does not get much use.

    from what I've picked up on this site, not all engine batteries are charged from the onboard charger

    Another vote for CTEK. I have three in use - sports car which is sorned / garaged from 30.09 to 01.04 each year and starts first time; caravan when not hitched and battery never goes flat, 3rd one bought when Mrs Nutsy's car was sorned during lockdowns 1,2 &3 - again started first time.

    I think we need a bit more information. Do you have a solar panel, if so, does it charge both  leisure battery and cab battery. If it does and you are still having a problem with the cab battery then its possible that the charge percentage to the cab battery needs increasing. As ED says above not all motorhome built in chargers send a charge to the cab battery. One way round this is to fit a device like a Battery Master which will push excess charge from the leisure battery to the cab battery. This will only be effective if you are able to connect the motorhome to the mains at home. However it will work from a solar panel.

    if solar (if installed) nor ehu charger have spilt charging to the cab battery then fitting a Battery Master (or similar device) will trickle charge the battery from the leisure battery.
