New guidance re overseas travel

Testing is fairly straightforward, wouldn’t let it put you off, just needs a bit of preparation and willingness to pay the fee in exchange for freedom and relative safety.

Apparently, even if you come into contact with someone who tests positive while you're abroad you don't need to quarantine on your return now, you can just be tested daily instead ......
......er ..... but you have to be a government minister to qualify for that!

Agree with that, micky. After all this is the bloke who said he'd be "driven by the data not dates" and promptly announced a series of dates!
It'll be very interesting to see if he stands up to his very own "awkward squad" who are now insisting on going ahead on the 21st.

The death rate was zero a day or so ago which demonstrates my point. Other causes aren't relevant to the pandemic.

That’s your choice.

My view too, as I said earlier, Micky. It’s surely the sensible way.

Or one of the 39,999 who aren’t.

As frustrating as it is, in my opinion we should stay as we are until the infection rate comes down again.
The 21st June was a date to review the situation not a firm date to lift the restrictions regardless.
If the virus is spreading now it will spread even faster if the current restrictions are lifted.

Unbelievable, but I’ve just received an email, and a text message, from the Track and Trace system. Seems I have to self isolate tomorrow.....🤔
Assume this is from our recent trip to Portugal, a country which was on the “green list “ when we were there, we returned home Sunday 30th May.
I know that many people who travelled to Porto have only just received the results from their Day 2 DIY tests, and even more have not received the kits and are chasing up refunds from credit card companies because they have still not received the kits.
But, it’s a bit late for me, and many others to have to self isolate, for 1 day, what is the point, way too late. ( I will be self isolating tomorrow, no problem).
Does make you wonder though, just how much Covid was circulating in Porto. Everyone travelling to Portugal had to have a negative test before flying out, but quite a few seem to have caught the virus in Porto.

NHS Test and Trace has identified you as a contact of someone who recently tested positive for COVID-19. It is your legal duty to stay at home and self-isolate until 9th of June (including this date).
You should book a test to check if you have COVID-19, even if you do not have symptoms.
Book your test at https://contact-tracing.phe.gov.uk/links/ask-for-a-coronavirus-test.

The unlocking on 21 June is about far more than overseas travel.

It's a 'not before' date.

It’s a complete shambles, even those doing their best to do the right thing are let down badly. I read about one of the repatriation planes back from Portugal having someone on board who tested positive, the whole plane load have now been asked to quarantine. Supposedly tested before they got on to come back🤷♀️
Worldwide, it’s such a fluid situation. Anyone contemplating overseas travel of any kind needs to be prepared for changes. One of the cruise ships circling UK has been refused docking at Greenock today.

Oh well, every cloud....
I grumbled and objected when my OH developed the "renovations bug"this year, as it effectively rules out using our MH in June and most of July. However after 41 years together I have learned that "resistance is futile".The good weather has helped us to push on with demolition/rebuild but has made skip filling a hot and tiring business;38c on our min/max thermometer yesterday,No need to fly to Portugal for a tan when building in Yorkshire is on the agenda.
Just hoping that September develops into an "Indian Summer" and that we may finally get off somewhere post Boris and Building!

It is difficult to understand the logic behind some of the decisions. A ship of fully vaccinated, recently tested negative holiday makers refused entry.🤔
Whilst at Edinburgh CC site a few days ago I watched easyJet flights from London and Bristol flying in regularly. Then there were the multiple passenger trains we observed heading north at Berwick Seaview. Plus if you want to visit a Euro match in Glasgow all you need is a mask and a ticket. You could not make it up.1 -
We're all interested in what people think about foreign travel David because we're all affected by the actions of travel and virus transmission. So you might have to put up with all sorts of opinions until things can safely open up again.

Yes a very good point. I think Pliers post upthread highlights that.
