New guidance re overseas travel

Interesting point. Many of us will have purchased annual policies when there was no such thing as green/amber/red zones. It seemed to me that at that stage, insurance in general was still valid whatever, but risk specific to Covid was generally excluded.

Staysure includes Covid cover in its travel insurance, not just for green list countries, and Which? and the comparison sites are now including details of other companies which also do that.

It’s certainly a question I’ll ask before taking it out. I would doubt they could refuse to cover you if it changed while you were there, but might require you to return ASAP. I would prefer to decide for myself, so if that was the case would be looking for a company that would provide suitable cover.

It’s in the public domain WTG, apparently part of a phone in on LBC radio, so feel free. It is hilarious, but on another level, it’s deeply frightening as well. Much like the oft told tales of younger first time voters thinking they can “vote” off candidates they don’t like.
I would like to see some impartial voting education included in the curriculum for older school children. If they come from a background disinterested and ignorant of how the voting systems work in this country, then that disinterest and ignorance just continues. When you see someone who is really interested in politics at a young age, it’s quite an eye opener. I was at college with William Hague, at 16 he had his destiny mapped out, his father’s soft drinks delivery truck wasn’t for him. Regardless of how you view him or his political choices, he certainly reached heights and wealth and a life way beyond his early education and upbringing. 🤔

The first sailing of the summer is departing Plymouth for Santander this afternoon, and despite doubts expressed on here as well as the Prime Minister’s displeasure, the ferry company has reported that there are 800 passengers on board. Life as we knew it is restarting.

And the first sailing from Plymouth to Roscoff is timetabled to depart on Tuesday evening this week, sailing overnight and arriving 0700 on Wednesday - just as France re opens its borders.

And only 18.5 % of the French are fully vaccinated. Should we be contemplating travel until more countries are further ahead with vaccinations? Spain is around 21%. We're about 41% vaccinated. Is this level good enough to prevent further problems?

52.5% fully vaccinated in the UK now according to tonight's news 👍🏻
You pose a very good and pertinent question, Brue.

Thank you for the figures, Brue , but are they of any great concern to me? I think not. What matters is whether I have been fully vaccinated, not whether they have.
My doctor assures me that the two Pfizer shots she gave me will almost certainly stop me getting seriously ill and will keep me out of hospital. So I mix happily with the 60 % in UK who have not been vaccinated without worry - my grandchildren in their twenties, their partners, the other customers in the supermarket and the people on the bus. Whether they have been vaccinated or not I don’t know. But I have.
Of course I sympathise with French friends who are still waiting for vaccination. I know they are frustrated and I know some of them are at risk, but that is not going to reduce the power of the two Pfizer shots I had.
Regards.

I wish you well EuroT.
However it has been widely reported that the efficacy of the Pfizer vaccine is significantly reduced against the Delta (Indian) variant. I am sure you will be aware of this and make your own judgements as to whether it is wise to mix as you suggest but I am merely mentioning it in case you aren't aware.
Of course you can still catch C19 and pass it on without knowing it.

Why would you? We're all free to make our own decisions within the terms of law and to take responsibility for our actions.

Real world evidence reports Pfizer vaccine was found to be 88% effective at stopping symptomatic disease from the Indian variant two weeks after the second dose, compared with 93% effectiveness against the Kent variant.
The AstraZeneca jab was 60% effective against the Indian variant, compared with 66% against the Kent variant. Is that significant? Not a deal breaker for me.As for ‘widely reported’, that can mean anything. It’s been widely reported on some media platforms that covid jab can alter our DNA and implant microchips so we can be tracked. Not too worried about that one either. A small % of people will catch Covid after vaccination, but there again, a small % of us will be run over by a bus.
We are slowly, but surely vaccinating our way out of this crisis. We’ll never be 100% free from Covid, but we need to have balanced and rational thinking on moving on from where we are now.

I thought that was exactly what I was doing🤷🏻♂️.
I've not been critical or tried to alter your thinking in any way. As I said "we're all free to make our own decisions".

There are companies which offer travel insurance even when the countries being visited are on the Amber list and therefore travel is 'Against FCO advice'. Staysure and Avanti both offer what I consider reasonably priced single trip insuranced to two countries which are currently on the Amber list, with ninety days cover for two over seventies with pre-existing conditions (covered). Battleface also offer cover but their quote was outrageous.
A quick 'google' of 'Travel insurance against FCO advice' brings up a wider range of companies offering cover, but you don't seem to be able to do it via a 'Comparison' website.0 -
It seams strange that a lot of footballing fans can go to Portugal to cram in to a stadium to watch their teams play , but people can’t go there on holiday where they will be spaced apart and keeping themselves to themselves and behaving responsibly 🤷♂️

I’m struggling with finding affordable insurance that states in black & white that I am covered for repatriation if I’m struck ill with Covid.

I’m thinking of going so I’m covering my bases to ensure I’m not creating issues for myself or anyone else👍🏻

I was at the CL final in Porto. Everyone had to show their negative Covid certification before entering the stadium. There were 15,000 people in a 50,000 capacity ground. Nobody was crammed in anywhere, all the seating was well spaced. The stadium is open and very well ventilated.
Were you there, too, HD? Hope you enjoyed the game, we did. Or are you just getting your “info” from wherever....?

I checked my Nationwide Flex Plus this morning, I was posting elsewhere, and the travel insurance is valid unless the advice is against ALL travel.
