This is a posting from Caravan Salon Düsseldorf's Facebook page, does any member have any information about these ANGLES MORTS?

For those who want to go to France: The expert organization K ÜS points out that since this year all vehicles over 3,5 tonnes with warnings ′′ dead angle ′′ (′′ Attention! Angles Morts ′′) must be equipped. This requirement also applies to vehicles not registered in France. Anyone who drives and gets caught without these stickers has to expect a fine of 135 euros. !!️

Much discussion about this on other forums.  No clear advice or conclusions.  Some including Fun members from Europe, are suggesting that it only applies to vehicles registered in Europe not to those visiting.

It's certainly a strange one and I wonder which language should be used undecided.

Does this thread need moving to the Motorhome discussion section?

     Ca va!

It could be a good idea if it saves some lives, but since every vehicle has blind spots (as well as all the places the driver is not looking at in that particular instant) this could create the impression that a vehicle without such signs does not have a blind spot.

The fine is *only* €90 if paid within 3 days [or within15 days if paid/sent by post]. The sub-heading in the article 'The Law is the Law' and the comment in the text that nobody is above the law is ominous.

I comment as someone who had a'warm discussion' of some 5 minutes with a French Plumber who was about to go to lunch on a topic that would have taken him 20 seconds of expert 'eyeballing' to confirm ...

And, of course, he returned from lunch exactly 5 minutes late sealed

Discussed this episode with our neighbour, René, who replied sagely, 'But, Stefan, this is France...' Wisest explanation/advice I have heard

A little more research leads me to the conclusion that this only applies to French register vehicles same as the speed stickers.

The consensus of opinion seems to be that either type of sticker can be used on an LV.

Angles Morts? I thought that was an attempt at "Agincourt the replay". Murderous intentions from our gallic neighbours.

The recommendation is to use the bus sticker because the shape of a motorhome is closer to a bus than to an LKW (lorry).

I have checked another independent source which confirms that the rule applies also to foreign registered vehicles.

Thanks.  ADAC has always been very reliable so I expect it is good info and my German is virtually nonexistent laughing. I shall have to get some stickers.  Do they give any advice as to which ones to use on MH's and the correct locations?

OH said that here in France you must have them and have them in the right areas of the vehicle within twelve months, that was looking on the government website.

I tow a trailer when I am in France, what are the requirements for my trailer as regards needing Angles Morts stickers?

Not sure I want my motorhome festooned in stickers!!! Fortunately my motorhome is 3500kgs category so I shouldn't need them. I do sometimes have difficulty understanding French logic? With perhaps the exception of the one on the rear surely the ones on the side are a distraction when somebody on a bike should be concentrating on where they are going?

The position of the sticker on the rear could be problematic depending on where the vehicle builder has placed the toilet casette door.

It will probably end up being another regulation that all other nationalities other than the French follow.😉

Although mentions trailers, no idea whether that means a combined weight of vehicle and trailer? My outfit in total is 4000kg - car 2200, van 1800.

I appreciate that but they are not required for vehicles of 3500kgs and under. I am still not convinced of their effectiveness, surely any cyclist/motorcyclist realises the danger of drawing alongside a large vehicle? The stickers won't do anything for the driver of the large vehicle who is the one who should be aware of road users around them.

I agree I can't see a few labels doing much good.  I have seen cyclist nearly squashed by pulling up besides large vehicles and vice versa when cycling I have been forced to get on to the pavement to avoid being squashed by vehicles drawing up besides me.  In my experience tuggers who seem to have forgotten they have a wide caravan on the back are the worst.
