    So far SARS-CoV-2 has shown itself to be much less agile than Flu.  Like SARS-CoV-2 Flu is a corona virus which spreads, mutates, and kills thousands every year despite millions being vaccinated against it and herd immunity has never been reached.  We live with it. 

    SARS-CoV-2 will most likely be with the same as Flu; it will remain active and we will have to live with it also.  The current vaccines will for the most part prevent people getting seriously ill, although that is not guaranteed.  They do not guarantee that you will not catch the virus, nor do they guarantee that you will not spread it if you do get infected. noticeably or asymptomatically.

    Bearing in mind that the primary objective of the virus is to replicate, the later mutations seem to be residing more heavily in the upper respiratory tract of those infected making it much easier for the virus to be spread by aerosol (coughs and sneezes spread diseases). 

    One thing we have yet to see is the SARS-CoV-2 virus becoming less dangerous.  It can't replicate if it kills its hosts so it may yet become more able to easily spread but less of a killer.

    It appears that coronavirus is a remarkably agile infection and mutations could be with us for the foreseeable future.  

    From what I read I agree on both statements. But I don't necessarily link the two directly

    There seems to be clamour for reopening the country. Is it wise to be in such a hurry. This virus has shown itself to be very efficient at exploiting every weakness. We should leave it to Government and their advisors to take things forward. Patience seem to be the answer..

    If you take every media comment at face value then maybe there is a clamour but if you leave aside those motivated, understandably,  by seeing their businesses going down the tubes then I dont see it.

    As for leaving it to the government and their advisors,I take it this means you are in favour of 'Eat Out To Help Out 2' which has just been mentioned on Radio 2 as a way of getting things moving in April?

    I no more disapprove her action than Cummings. I greatly disapprove of much of the press for shallow reportage - including BBC

    (I know the name Amanda Holden but that, and the fact that she is involved in that popular dance programme is the limit of my knowledge of her and the recent press reports)

    During the first lock down my Mum in Law was admitted to hospital and required several visits to her GP for follow up tests etc.

    We had tried the sitting in the garden shouting routine and she, 94 and hard of hearing, was getting frustrated at this so I spoke to her GP.

    I said that I was of the opinion that so long as I kept to social distancing and had no direct contact it would not be unreasonable to go in the house-I would be further away then when I took her to see him-.

    I made clear I was not asking for permission but rather his thoughts.

    His answer was that we could not just abandon old people and that MIL was on the verge of needing a significant amount of care which, if she got little of no contact, would be realised quite soon.

    So it seems that I cant go casting stones!

    Well, I would never have come across this celebrity story if it hadn't been for CT! wink

    Other than reading the basics on the BBC website, I've no knowledge of the incident but I do wonder what sort of emergency is best resolved by driving from London to Cornwall and back? undecided

    If they opened their eyes the "neighbours?" should have noticed many more would be seen probably doing just the same, ,but then they probably would not have got paid by media outlets for othersundecided

    Yes, you're probably correct there. Seems a shame that the neighbours were unable/unwilling to assist the elderly couple in the first place - or that the elderly couple didn't feel able to ask the neighbours for assistance.

    Still, just another celebrity (non) story - no such thing as bad publicity,  eh? undecided

    The good news is that I got my Oxford AZ Covid vaccine on Friday morning...

    The bad news is the shivery/ flu-like/ sick-feeling symptoms after about 12 hours.  Slept until after lunchtime on Saturday.  Its gradually got better and now just have a little bit of a sore throat and am feeling absolutely drained.

    Small price to pay though....

    For "elderly couple" read the same age as many on here. wink

    No comment about the incident concerned, most of us would respond to an emergency, it is allowed.

    I'm wondering if I've been conned.  I got the paperwork and second appointment but as far as reactions go - nothing.  It was so quick I did not see it happen, I did not feel it nor have a mark (hole) or any reaction whatsoever and that was 15 days ago.  undecided

    Yeh feeling something similar, and i did not even get a new hole in my arm as i asked the pharmacist to use an existing hole from previous vaccinations laughing but i did get a sticker, so i must have had the real stufflaughing

    Neither of us have had a reaction after yesterday ! It's a very odd feeling though now having had the first jab - a sort of limbo land until the booster! smile
