    I enjoy a wide range of easy listening and pop music.  Being in my 80’s, a lot of my music tastes are in the 50’s and 60’s.  What I have noticed is that a lot of good music of those times has been ignored by the BBC and the like.  I have always felt that if you can’t whistle a particular ‘tune’ whilst you worked, then it isn’t music.   Short, repetitive lines and raucous ‘yah, yah, yahs’ is not music.  Thank heaven for my ageing CD collection!

    My preferences are for blues or rock based music. I used to play guitar in a local pub band and like & appreciate these bands, some we have even seen live :  Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Status Quo, Gary Moore, Peter Green, Eric Clapton, Bryan Adams, Dire Straits, Genesis, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Small Faces, Canned Heat, The Who, The Eagles and The Pogues…

    The first record I ever had was The Everly Bros, Walk Right Back (my Dad bought it for me.)

    The first record I actually bought was Elvis Presley, The Girl of my Best Friend. I don't know why I bought it because I didn't really like Elvis and I was in Cleobury Mortimer on holiday and a shop happened to have a few records for sale! smile

    'Cathy's Clown' and 'Ebony Eyes' and 'Wake Up Little Suzie', all courtesy of my 2 older half brothers {7&9 years senior]. Mum bought them a 'Dansette' style record player for Xmas [16 2/3, 33, 45 & 78 rpm options] and 1 single to start off the collection .... Charlie Drake singing 'Please Mr Custer'.... And, not long after, she bought for herself 'Dominique' by the Singing Nun [ a record that warped mysteriously from the heat of the Debonair Flavel Gas Fire about 10 feet away undecided]

    Fair to say that Mum wasn't in tune with 'Yoof music' ...

    I love that song Freddy and Christine Perfect/McVie's voice. I saw her with the original Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green et al) at York Uni Central Hall, must have been about 1971ish. Fantastic! smile

    Yes, I think he’d already left. A pity what happened to him (PG), such a good guitar player, and the perfect blues voice. I missed out on seeing them. We did though go to see ‘Rumours’ (a tribute act) around a year ago, who were very good. They even played several ‘Green’ era songs, which was nice🙂

    'Man of the World', 'Oh Well' Parts I & II, 'The Chain', 'The Green  Manalishi [With The Two Pronged Crown]', 'Tusk', 'Oh Daddy', 'Shake Your Money Maker' etc. In fact,just about any Fleetwood Mac track will suit. 'Dragonfly' is a nice mellow track for a peaceful afternoon in the Spring sunshine.

    As well as following PG in the mid 60's - when Fleetwood Mac was a proper blues group before Christine McVie came along and ruined it, I saw him 10 (or was it 15?) years ago, in Beverley when he played a gig in the little theatre in the Market Place with a reassembled Fleetwood Mac.  He was still good, but a shadow of his former self, the drugs and his lifestyle obviously having taken their toll.  It brought back many happy memories of once seeing him play with Clapton and Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, but it was also quite sad.

    I recall seeing him on tv, playing with his Splinter Group. It made for saddening watching. I actually like both versions of ‘Mac’, both very different 🙂

    Excellent, been a long time fan of Ralph McTell and seen him in concert a couple of times. Very poignant song, surprised it didn't get a wider play?
