Well that's handy it never occurred to me to keep count, thanks for the info.  What other records do you keep about me and others?

If you check with HMRC I think you will find that "paid" voluntary work is classed as employment and the money could be taxable.

Kj - how far from your surgery do you live? I think I'd be tempted to go directly there and speak to someone, especially as I think you've said you're expecting to have to go there for the jab itself?

so paid voluntary work exists then? Of course it could be taxable.

Again as I said before I suppose you volunteer to be employed? But you're still volunteering? You have to volunteer to be aircrew? Some teachers will have to volunteer to take those summer schools, they can't be forced?

As I said this is OT but you can have the next last word if you will as you're so keen on a definition smile

Agree, at ours there is a mobile number posted outside to be let in. The doors may be locked but there must be someway to get the staff to let you in?

Only a 5 minute drive, but if you just turn up they will not let you in to speak to anybody.  Strict instructions to ring first and preferably arrange a phone or video  consultation.

If no word by lunchtime tomorrow, I will ring them again.

Yes, apparently we 75-80s in this area have to go to our GP.

Could you not find a convenient patch of ice in the car park to "slip" on, requiring treatment and then casually mention the vaccination thing while being treated? wink

Are you absolutely sure that they have an accurate record of all your details especially your contact details?

I'd not leave it till lunchtime, Kj.

In my experience Docs are usually geared up to answering the phone from around 8am and tend to have more people around capable of dealing with issues early in the day.

As it happens, Mrs F received a phone call from the surgery this evening. She gets her shot tomorrow afternoon 🙂

Yes, been with the same surgery since 1988, same landline number all the time, same mobile for quite a few years too, know they have it as they texted me on it to say they would phone me when they had vaccine.  That was 3 weeks ago now.

It’s worth repeating here-the Kent variant is being controlled by the current crop of Vax offerings. It’s the South African one that is elusive there is however a tweak to the vax in production for later in the year that’ll zap it👍🏻

Yes, Rocky, Sir Patrick Vallance made that very point about the current vaxes coping with the Kent variant during yesterday's Downing Street briefing.

There seems to be a misunderstanding of this among some of the population which is spreading unnecessary concern.

There is some well informed public media and, sadly, some ridiculous dross and crackpots around.

There was a piece on one of the news channels yesterday concerning the low take up of the vacine by the Asian Bangladesh  population and many it seems are taking notice of an Asian "crackpot" on social media who advises that if a steam/ vapour. Inhaler is used it will stop you contracting the virusyell

Claim: Inhaling steam over 100°C will "disintegrate" the coronavirus, because it is "fat".

Source: Tanzanian president John Magufuli (22 April 2020)

Verdict: There is no scientific evidence that very high temperatures or inhaling steam "kills" Covid-19.

The Tanzanian president urged his health ministry to "emphasize" steam inhalation as a way of treating Covid-19.
There is no evidence that inhaling steam can treat the virus, which replicates in cells, and experts warned the practice is dangerous.
While there are fats in the viral membrane of the virus, it is also misleading to call it "a fat" and that heat will "dissolve" it. Soap and water however will.

Isn't one of the African presidents currently advising steam inhalation?

I seem to recall Van Tam saying 80% of hospital staff had taken up he vaccine whilst of those in the BAME group it was around 20%
