GB Stickers

Many of you will have received the email from the Club about touring in Europe after Brexit.  The paragraph entitled GB Stickers does not apply if your registration plates now include the GB identifier with or without the Union flag (not national flags!).   Decals to stick over the now defunct EU logo are available quite cheaply on the internet.

The email says differently. Are you saying the mail is incorrect, NE10?

"It is a requirement that you display a GB sticker on the rear of your vehicle. This applies irrespective of whether you currently have a number plate which includes the GB identifier."

Copy of Government website relating to travel abroad after Brexit.

You can display one of the following flags with identifying letters on the left-hand side of the number plate:

    Union Flag
    Cross of St George
Cross of St Andrew - also known as the Saltire
    Red Dragon of Wales
The letters, or national identifiers, you can have are:

GREAT BRITAIN, Great Britain or GB
UNITED KINGDOM, United Kingdom or UK
    CYMRU, Cymru, CYM or Cym
    ENGLAND, England, ENG, Eng
    SCOTLAND, Scotland, SCO or Sco
    WALES or Wales
The flag must be above the identifier. You cannot have the flag or letters on the number plate margin, and neither can be more than 50 millimetres wide.

    Travelling in Europe
You do not need a GB sticker if your number plate includes the GB identifier on its own or with the Union flag. But you will need to display a GB sticker clearly on the rear of your vehicle if your number plate has any of the following:

    a Euro symbol
a national flag of England, Scotland or Wales
numbers and letters only - no flag or identifier
If you’re in Spain, Cyprus or Malta, you must display a GB sticker no matter what is on your number plate.

I wonder if the Club meant on the Caravan?undecided

Never mind I'm not going to chance an argument with a Gendarme so will probably go back to having 2 stickers, one on the car and the other on the caravan.

I am being thick on two counts:-

1 - I have a C&MC crossing booked, Hook of Holland to Harwich, so should I have received an e-mail as others have had explaining the new rules post Brexit.

2 - My car and caravan have number plates with the Euro ring and GB below. They do not have any flags. Do I also need a separate GB sticker on back of car and van?

    Thanks - Colin

The only concession as far as I can see is that you don't have to change your current EU number plates if you visit the EU. The circle of stars is a flag, it's the EU flag. So you will need a GB sticker on both car and caravan.

If you go onto Overseas holidays on the club website you will find it there under travel after brexit

If am sure there will be ,if not already, union flag stickers the same size as the eu stars on your number plates to cover it

I told you I was think, so I went to the relevant C&MC webpage, followed the link to the Gov site and I got this:-

So a separate old fashioned oval GB sticker or a small GB and flag sticker to go over the end of my number plate are needed [as said somewhere above] are needed for car and van.

Just type this into e-bay "GB and flag sticker for numberplate"

Already got mine, leaving it until the weather warms up to put them on over the EU symbol.

I fitted a GB sticker to my previous MH last Spring. Alas it was unused. Fortunately I still have a couple I can use on my current one. Not sure if it will be worth putting it on yet though. The one thing I can deduce is that, as the numberplate are plain, the previous owner didn't venture "over there".

Thanks for that.  I have just measured my plates and those are fine for the height but a bit narrow.  I have also noticed something else.  On the car the GB letters front and rear are white, on the van the front is white and the rear is yellow.  I'm not sure if it makes any difference legally but I bet a Gendarme will know or at least find a fault if he/she can laughing

Purely a matter of preference AD. Stickers on the van can leave marks.

Not legal unless accompanied by a GB sticker.

      Maybe, but not necessarily.

Both our car and van have plain plates as they were fitted by the dealers who decided not to pay the extra small amount to have the GB logo on them.

We just stuck on the "free" GB stickers that come with Red Pennant.

I always made it a condition of purchase that any new car I purchased had Euro plates, if I could get away with it I also tried to get them to provide a third one for the caravan, when I had one!!! One thing I did observe a few years ago that south of Birmingham Euro plates were fairly standard but further north not so common.

Not that I've bought many cars recently, but I remove Euro star number plates from my cars. I live in GB ... not Europe.

and for the pedants .... I know where GB is relative to mainland Europe 🙄

Any idea anyone if I need a 'D' sticker for my German registered car when I come over to England? It's got the 'D' on the Euro plate, but is that enough?
