New Sites Directory and Handbook

Well done Tommo, you were the first to offer a veiled questioning of my membership. I joined to benefit from some of the very good products and services offered by the club.
I have never said that, I do question the fact that the club is stuck in the 1960s with respect to understanding the requirements of their customers for certain parts of their service.
The assume that everyone will turn up and pay their fees as they have done for ever. The next generation will not do this and without understanding how the next generation operate they will struggle to compete with the current best in class options that are available to those in the hobby.

Sometimes these things aren’t apparent at the outset. Also, the advantages can outweigh the disadvantages. When I was at work, the buzz phrase was ‘continuous improvement’. Many were resistant, but companies/organisations that fail in this respect, sooner or later, will struggle.

I never said all members want it, I said it is needed by many in the club
sorry you did say that you posted using the royal we:
We need a HTML based
Can I name major companies that failed due to having poor or no digital content, yes, many, many, of them. If you had any understanding of commerce you would know how poor that question is
Well please do name some perhaps? I can't see how asking for such companies makes that a poor question?
Yes, printing is cheap, that is why virtually all commercial media publications are moving or have moved to a digital platform. You had better tell them they are wrong.
That just isn't true, most companies all have both paper and digital versions to suit and reach their customers. And really you're taking my quote out of context.
I could post many that have very good digital presence, why you want to believe that rural businesses are not using digital media to promote their products.
Then really why don't you name one? You appear very reticent to give an cast iron examples? And I never said they didn't, I just asked you to find one?
You then try to tell me that there is no difference in the offerings of the Club digital media and some of the examples I suggested. Do you have the internet or are you making this up?
I really couldn't see any major differences in the ASCI one (below) and others, just like the club's really, again why not educate me and show me rather than just say you could?

Continuous improvement is not only good, Freddy, it is a necessity👍🏻.
However, someone making sweeping statements about what should be done and what we need while decrying one of the things that is good about the club - the booking system - is becoming a repetitive dogma.
I know there is much that CAMC could do better but I don’t believe any one member should be attempting to speak for the rest of us without the mandate to do so. Personal opinions and questioning, yes, but not attempting to tell us and the club what should happen. The way of seeking change is via the AGM and the elected governing body.

Change is necessary, totally agree so why then do you question the viability of me questioning a document that has not fundamentally changed for decades and is no longer fit for purpose.?
I am not attempting to speak for the rest of you, I am one of you, and my opinion is as valid as any other member. I have not told you to do anything.
I am not attempting to tell you and the club to do anything, I am pointing out that the real world out there has changed. Print media has declined to a point where it is no longer significant in society. It is costly, polluting, out of date before its printed and there are better alternatives.
You choose not to accept my supposition, good luck.

@ Corners ... Well please do name some perhaps? I can't see how asking for such companies makes that a poor question?
Kodak is a very good example ... maybe not quite in the same way as you suggest, but they declined to jump onto the digital photography bandwagon as they thought it was a passing phase. By the time they realised it wasn't, the bandwagon had passed. Kodak

We have been told that a new booking system is on the way, perhaps it might be better to wait for that before assuming the club is not prepared to change.
As for the handbook, I put earlier I would welcome the option of a digital subscription at a reduced rate like the CCC. This would have the added advantage of allowing the club to gauge the handbooks popularity and perhaps eventually phase it out.2 -
For me, at certain points paper is superior.
When we are planning a tour we spread out the CMC paper map and pick out some of the sites we wish to use using a sticky label to highlight their location. A sheet of paper to hand to note them down. I find at that stage a paper map is best. If I want to note postcodes and location later a paper handbook is is best. Far quicker to pick the info from a book flicking through for 7 or 8 sites than navigate through web pages IMO.
When we are away the maps stay home. The hand book goes on passenger side door. When we are approaching a site I will just ask OH for final directions. and she finds it far easier to reach into the door, open book at marked page and read than to locate it on a webpage using an electronic device in a moving car.

Here is what the C&CC reported for 2019:
"The Club’s digital Membership proposition, now in its fifth year, has continued to prove popular, with just over 43 per cent of the total membership now opting to receive their membership in this format. We have seen a growth in members wishing to opt for digital membership due to both advancing technology and for the desire to be more environmentally conscious"
It is difficult to understand why the C&MC don't make the same offering.

I find it easier to plan the route before I set out and set it up in the sat nav which also might include a check of my digital OS maps

+1, I encouraged parents, Aunts & Uncles to the joys(their words) of the internet &(as was then) 20th century advancements. It isn’t a case of can’t more won’t learn to operate a device. Like with most folk they feel it’s wrong that someone younger is teaching them. It’s soon forgotten when they pick it up & contact family members without leaving the house👍🏻

The data is available but the CAMC choose not to utilise it. How much less likely is an over-worked farmer who runs a CL as a sideline going to ensure that data is current, even if he had the technical expertise to do so.

Use what3words ET it will give you directions to the door of the wardens hut if you want👍🏻, it’s a wonder to behold no more post codes that have vast areas to check.

W3W can be linked to satnavs for the accurate journey too👍🏻

Phish, you seem to have read things I've not written yet deny your own apparent meanings.
For the record, I don't really care about the HB one way or the other and I am neither rejecting nor accepting any supposition.

For unknown sites I always program the sat nav by use of waypoints, using the CAMC final directions obtained from the web. Just occasionally there is an additional note about a road closure or event that the handbook would not give you.

Well, for me, I have a more useful size screen on my 10'' tablet which travels in the car on holiday when we are out and many a time I would not wish to carry a bulky smart phone. A bit like my eldest who uses a smart phone but doesn't want to carry it whilst walking the dog down to the beach etc.
OH has a £500 smart phone which is mainly for use as a camera and rides in her handbag when she does not want to carry a camera, particularly in towns or cities. I usually slip the mobile router in my pocket when in such areas in case we want directions. She also has a small mobile like mine that is her 'daily carry'.

How far in advance generation are you refering to, as with the increasing membership and the amount of those who it seems "lurk" on the forum ,,it does not seem to compute with your synopsis of the current or future methods of not needing the Sites directory
The NT and EH seem to also acknowledge the need of a hard copy of their information ,
As i was advised by a couple of Kelly communications engineers ,"all technology has a max capacity ",when they were yet again adding to the Virgin fibre optic cables to try to get their advertised speeds

A slight Misquote ED. I said that they would not be fit for my purpose. My purpose is to make or receive a call
What I want from a phone is that it is always with me. If I am under a bush at the bottom of the garden on a sunny day and you ring my phone it will be in my rhs front trouser pocket in reach. A smart phone with reasonable screen size would not be. If I need to make or receive a call in an emergency then I know that my mobile is always on my person.
Size and easy and simple portability is what makes my dumb clamshell amongst my small change etc more suitable as a daily carry throughout the day. I prefer a £12 phone in my pocket to an expensive phone on one side.

Yes indeed (and thank you for suggesting a name) but Kodak was in the photography image market and sold cameras for a very small profit and made huge profits on films and all the stuff for printing - paper, chemicals... and accessories and yes they didn't adapt to digital formats.
However as you say the club isn't in that position? We're not going to get digital campsites (I hope) and P is just talking about how the club needs a good booking system and website (which is nonsense it is good) and how it won't survive without one.

My satnav is offline too not everything smart is WiFi only. No worries ET. Your system suits you-that’s good enough👍🏻😊

The data exists in general for the examples I gave due mainly to the wonderful work of members who use the board and have extracted the data the hard way for the benefit of us all. They have for some even tagged the data to a moving interactive map for the benefit of other users. I have and do thank them for the ones I use.
This sort of useful acquisition is apparently beyond the club IT department. They do not offer these data analytics because they are not able!
As for your overworked farmer, they are more tech savvy than many professionals I know and they have to be and to belittle their knowledge is not deserved. They do this because the rural economy for small farmers is a total basket case and success with rural hospitality can be the difference between survival or failure.
