I've noticed it's often what happens when very old people start begrudging young folk the joys of youth, M. (Not that I'm suggesting that's the case with JV, obviously.)

And as US OLDER GenerationS many who post, should have noted, ,there is nothing wrong with younger generations enjoying themselves it has also been noted they seem to have a lot less respect or also it seems, thought for any one else in the pursuit of their enjoyment? than with past generations

AD , don’t believe everything you see on the news or reported ,there is lots of help by different organisations, yes things are bad but some of these drivers come prepared for delays , after all the French are known for closing their port at short notice

Maybe the Govt should encourage/fund a ferry link between the UK & a more friendly & more reliable country so trucks can deliver essential goods. It needs a long term solution.

It’s a generational thing so the psychology says-some older folk feel they’ve missed out on the good things in life & hold younger people responsible. It’s said it’s ‘reverse memory’ syndrome added to memory problems physically. Happily the majority of older folk realise they were young & also realise they too didn’t lead a faultless life so then forgive the young their youth. I’ve personally never been happier, I actually mourn the fact my children & grand children will never know the comfort I have for such a small price. The upsetting thing is the Covid generation that has had their schooling & formative years blighted by this virus will particularly suffer in years to come🤷🏻♂️☹️

I wonder if this "distressed driver" bit is a bit over-hyped. I can't imagine that long-distance HGV drivers haven't made at least some provision for food and water and we're all aware of "lucozade" bottles". It would be like driving in northern climes without a blanket and shovel.

Dont take all you see at face value, the professional truckers and their vehicles are surprisingly well equipped with cooking facilities either in the cab or in side lockers. They have radio/tv's/dvd's/portable heaters and porto loo's in the trailer, the bad thing for some foreign truckers , is that they are paid by the number of miles they cover and not by the hour.
No matter how bad it is now, they will all be back in the new year, it is a special way of life and many have been doing it since they were old enough to drive.

I did have an HGV license, although never used it much, and also a PSV license, and did drive long distance coaches for a while so mixed it a little bit with the truckers. The professionals knew how to look after themselves, some cabs where like 5 star hotels, and many will already have taken onboard extras in preparation for Brexit.

Morning
On 15th July this year we were all told that we have to wear a mask when inside an establishment. Why do people still use the phrase " I forgot my mask" 5 months later?!!

Some areas of London are not far behind. It’s not looking good, and will be much worse in a weeks time.
I feel sorry for all the truck drivers, some have managed to find accommodation, but it’s still a shambles. I don’t blame other countries for being super cautious though, our country hasn’t covered itself in glory from a World perspective, either in terms of ability to manage a dire situation, or a willingness of its population to do the right thing long term and consistently. Many have, but are still being badly let down by far too many who won’t co operate as they should.🤨

The first time I heard that in my early childhood perhaps I believed it but I then so heard it so many times from different 'generations' as I got older that I realised it is just a myth, or a saying the 'older' appear to say about 'younger' people.
Likewise children and teenagers will (IMHO) always think that that their parents/teachers/older people know nothing and act in old fashioned ways. Then they grow up and do the same. It's called life.
We still have this displayed in out kitchen:

The UK is not unique in this situation countries such as Spain, France and even Germany have had difficulty in corralling the population and getting them to understand the importance of following the rules, and these are countries who try to enforce the rules with a much greater show of force than in the UK , and they now know that this super virus is in lots of countries not just the UK, it will just take time to manifest itself.
When you watch interviews on the TV where some antivaxers are taking this stance because they fear each vaccine has a tracking agent imbedded in it, then there really is no way the population will be 100 pct compliant with anything that is put on the table that might rid us of the virus.

I'm assuming that you've either not read the post from JVB which I was replying to - which to answer your question, was quite definitely blaming youngsters for disposing carelessly of face masks - or you're misinterpreting my post (which I'm sure couldn't possibly be the case!

Just checked the local headlines, for health departments this morning for this area, and it has now been said with the latest virus , as it seeme some have known for some time ,,that it is teenagers who are now "bleeding" the virus into older generations causing more infecrions than expected ,as was first admitted had been happening in Essex

In this case I do blame other countries, for not checking if they have virus mutations too and for thinking lorry drivers should be used to prevent the spread. There are queues on the other side of the channel too. No joined up thinking at all from the EU. The UK is a leader in research regarding the patterns of mutation, along with Sweden (I think?.) So I hope someone appreciates our efforts to confront the virus rather than use lorry drivers as a prevention method. I hope we get news about prevention generally, did I hear there'll be a further announcement on the 26th?
I agree with you TDA about the lack of cooperation at home but also elsewhere.
