According to the First Minister of Wales the variant has been found in Wales as well, hence the new rules and lockdown starting earlier than planned.

The infection rates, taking Wales as a whole, would have already put is in tier 4 earlier than this I suspect

With the verarient virus even more transmitable anything to stop people travelling around would be good.

Absolutely, following today’s events I just hope that the seriousness of the situation is now apparent to all.....’avoid all non-essential travel’ means just that, whatever tier you’ve come from or going to. People travelling in what they think is their own little safe bubble to holiday somewhere are dangerous and deluded. Too many think they’re somehow different to everyone else, claiming to be social distancing experts, but don’t understand the risks they pose in the event of something going wrong with their plans putting others at risk. Stay at home, put your plans on ice - things can (hopefully) only get better!

I can fully understand people wanting to travel to see loved ones and to some extent that can be forgiven.  Anyone planning to travel more than very locally simply for self gratification should really just stay home and stay safe.

Quite possibly, the biggest threat is that CV19 is allowed to become endemic and regularly mutates to the point where we have no active defence against it. Nightmare ‘Doomsday’ scenario, millions of deaths until it burns itself outside, but I defy anyone to prove it couldn’t happen! The young and fittest could inherit the earth,

Yes, constantly present, highly contagious and lethal to many.

If you want to use that description fine.  It already fits that description.  It's a corona virus as is the flu with which we already live.  As with the flu it is extremely unlikely that vaccines will become ineffective against it but may need to be adjusted regularly to combat mutations.  Are you aware that the Oxford Astra Z vaccine was designed within 48 hours of the genome being read.  The biggest danger I see from CV19 is its ability to readily jump the species barrier.

I guess it does fit that description, but ‘endemic’ suggests something more persistent than a transitory disease, something more like Malaria which kills 400k annually or Smallpox in the period when it was a death sentence for many.  I agree completely about jumping the species barrier. That’s where it came from as did SARS, MERS, Ebola etc. All is recent history so quite likely the next example is just around the corner. Our close relationship with animals via the food chain or pets renders us extremely vulnerable. I was aware that the Oxford vaccine was based on a platform previously created for another coronavirus - our good fortune!

Yes.  Your first definition is not entirely correct, your second is.  Of course flu is in that sense endemic.  Every year worldwide, there are an estimated 1 billion cases, 3-5 million severe cases, and 290,000-650,000 deaths.  Hopefully we will get CV19 down to similar levels or less, but it definitely here to stay.

Daughter lives in Villa Martin 18-20 degs during day but very cold at night, but many more restrictions much the same as UK, now not allowed to travel out of region/area, and a 2300 hrs curfew.

News feeds are reporting that the Dutch have banned all UK flights UFN, soon wont have to wait until 1st Jan to be banned from entering mainland Europe, just how flexible can my BF tickets be, had them nearly 12 months now undecided

It was almost inevitable once the new variant was found. The welfare of the whole is more important than the individual.

Yup, and in a very sad sort of way, it is nice to know we are not alone in our plight as the leaders of various states in Australia are now enforcing lock downs ahead of the christmas festivities. undecided

However a top medical guy in the UK who many called the prophet of doom, predicted what we are now experiencing, and when asked yesterday what should we do if we had our bags packed ready for an xmas getaway, he said unpack them, probably the best piece of advice anyone will get this Christmas.cool

As far as Wales goes (since the Welsh government insists on threating Wales as a single entity rather than by regions) it made no sense to allow Christmas relief whilst announcing a tier 4 lockdoown from 28th December did it?

The big problem in most democratic? countries over the world it seems  ,was no matter what advise was forthcoming to mitigate the effects of this virus,   ,it relied on the populations adhering to it ,which  some people did not think they were involved, and are still in denial undecided
