The government would have to enact a law in order to do that. I wonder how likely it wold be for such a law to be voted in

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, the problem is the parents decision affects the children and others they may infect. I don't believe the vaccine should be compulsory so I don't know the answer. All I know is I will have it as soon as I can.Seriously I can't believe people are telling others, especially schoolchildren they should not be tested, thought they were mad when this happens in America, now we have them here!

I think the idea of sending university students home early, after having a test is a good idea. Then if they do have the virus they can isolate before Christmas.

American Doctors/ Psychologists have studied the phenomenon & suggested it’s a mental aberration suffered by those that are confused/struggling with what is actually happening around them so they cling on to any theory that makes ‘sense’ to them, it makes sense & fits their personal narrative & gives them peace & answers. That is being exploited & supported by the Trump administration to their own ends. The shocking thing is the fact these people are being radicalised as seen by their carrying multiple weapons in military like groups.

We are talking about the "Greatest Democracy in the World" and not some tin pot dictatorship or ISIS controlled state?

It's like watching a car crash in slow motion. You can see the threads holding democracy together unravelling bit by bit. It's no wonder the Russians and Iranians are laughing their socks off.

All it has taken WN is a group of right wing enablers fronted by a snake oil salesman & a trusting people. When this is over there will be a reckoning of shocking proportions. As the old adage says-‘from hero’s to zero’s’ in 4years😢

US is just going the way all empires do Roman, British etc the timescale shortens each cycle. Ok it was more of a monetary empire than an imperial one but it will soon be history

As i posted "somewhere?" else my cousin in Canada (retired history lecturer) the USA may just as well be separate countries as the populations of each state are already so insular,  and do not have much idea of the next door state,,with different "governers/ments"

As she says is sad to see the UK is now no longer united and going the same way

Ps Her OH is a retired economics lecturer and agrees, always quoting the saying

"United we stand divided we fall"

" Don't some people want to have Christmas this year "

I have to say that it doesn't bother me at all. It is just another day to me, which I am normally pleased to get out of the way. I have never understood why people go over the top in celebrating it. I have to admit that I am not at all religious, but I don't think Christmas has a lot to do with that for many folks anyway. It may be nice for some families and friends to get together, but if it means prolonging this pandemic, which I fear it may, then I for one will not be happy. I am already fed up with lockdowns and if Christmas causes another it will be a Christmas present I would rather not have.

Yes, totally agree. Hopefully that hideous American import ‘Black Friday’ won’t happen this year, which should prevent people fighting and trampling over each other to get their hands on next year’s landfill.

One reason that we go away in December normally is to avoid Christmas. for the last 10 years or more we have gone away. Over recent years that has been from mid December until New Years Eve.

As for Black Friday it has come early at Currys.

If we lower our prices further on Black Friday, we'll refund you the difference*

I did qualify it as a monetary empire.

but since you have shown and interestwink

There are also some who think there is a Territorial empire as well, Just the Good O'l US calls itself a republic. None of that Imperialistic colonisation here, or is there?

USA clearly does have a colonial past e.g. Puerto Rico, Guam, US Virgin Islands, American Samoa etc. They even had a pop at acquiring Greenland recently! What they’ve also got is a bad case of Christian nationalism that worships power and money.

    Too late, Bill! frown

I've been getting daily emails from Amazon with "early Black Friday" deals for at least the past week.  So, just like Christmas itself it seems "mission creep" is alive and well in commercial circles. frown

What is this issue with Black Friday that people have? I mean you don't have to actually buy anything do you? You can ignore the whole thing and stay away from the shops?.
