Some one has had the cleaners in! Very tidy thread.
Nellie, you are right about not trusting figures. They are all over the place.
Lovely morning here, but cold. Yesterday was spent clearing greenhouse and putting delicate plants inside for Winter. I keep some in house as well, so cleaned them up, found some nice pots to put the pots in. Had a wood sorting day as well, we have plenty drying and ageing in different places, just needs the odd “move on” occasionally as we take more into house. Got some Winter bedding for putting into containers to get us through cold months, pansies as they just last forever and are frost hardy.
Hoping to hear back from latest survey for boiler in next few days as well🤞

Jane's just back from Sainsburys here in Derby. No queues and she got just about everything on the list.
On our local radio today they commented about an announcement from Andrex that they had in stock 100 million loo rolls so absolutely no need to panic buy them. I'd seen this announcement a couple of days ago when Andrex also added that during the March panic buying spree there had been no shortage whatsoever of loo rolls. And they aren't the only manufacturer.

Our local shop we use has the notice "We will not serve anyone who is not wearing a mask", it's their shop and I applaud their decision. I have no interest in others excuses for entering shops without one as the heightened risk remains to me irrespective of the whys and wherefores.

As seen on the web somewhere ... if you don't like wearing a mask/face covering, then you're going to really hate wearing a ventilator! I'm sure that all the nursing staff love wearing theirs for hours at a time, rather than the hour or so it takes you to shop.

We have a friend and neighbour who looks just like anyone else. She is awaiting a lung transplant should one ever become available 🙁, at present not urgent yet but I can see things getting worse, among other problems. For the years of abuse she's got when using a disabled parking space she now has a very large sticker on her car rear window that says "not all disabilities are visible". She still gets snide comments as she walks away. She doesn't go out on the bad days. Folk are so judgemential 😡🤬.

Would those that for whatever reason can't wear an actual mask not be more comfortable wearing a visor? Not sure how effective they are viz a viz a mask but many use them as an alternative.

I suspect that many would feel more comfortable David. My youngest would prefer to wear a mask and usually does but, on occasion she has had to remove it. In fact, since the first occasion this happened she has been advised by her consultant that if something similar happens she must remove the mask.

In the "good old days" there was always a small minority that played the system. The people who claimed the dole but worked in the black market, the people who seemed to be on permanent sick notes but managed to play golf.
It's been the norm for as long as I can remember.
Nowadays there are the people who park in disabled bays when they aren't disabled, who ignore government guidelines or rules for socialising, who don't wear masks when they should. These people are a blight on the truly disabled, on the hard workers, on the rule obeyers and they are sometimes quite brazen about it. We've seen a shopkeeper in a small shop challenge a young man about not wearing a mask. Lung problems he replied. Outside we saw him lighting a cigarette.We called him out on it. He winked and walked off. Not much you can do if he can't be bothered.
One just needs to be a tad more tolerant just in case the circumstances are not what they seem to you. I start off assuming the person has a legitimate reason for whatever they are doing.
Mrs WN did some shopping today and asked an elderly couple if she could get something from the shelf in front of her. Only then did they realise on seeing her that they had completely forgotten to put on their masks, which they promptly rectified.

In many EU countries you have to have a medical exempt certificate if you are not wearing a mask and in countries like Italy and Spain the wearing of masks is policed reigourosly.
I would have thought that if you suffered from any sort of medical condition that was even more dangerous to your well being if you caught covid19 e.g. COPD, asthma you would stay away from supermarkets etc and use click and collect or shop online, thereby reducing the risk of infection. Unlike Spain we do not have to wear face masks outdoors unless it is a public space where social distancing is not possible, in Spain, step out your front door, wear a mask, have somebody in your car that is not family, wear a mask

For some David I might be the answer but others like my daughter who looks perfectly normal but due to her mental impairment wouldnt entertain it
About 6 weeks ago my youngest autistic grandson was sent home from school with 'symptoms' ... a cold. He had been told, from memory' to stay off for 2 weeks unless he tested negative. A kit was duly provided. After being hit, kicked and hair puled she said she would never attempt to test her autistic son again and nor would anybody else.

You evidently thought wrongly but, never mind. Many are happy to shop in suitable shops and when masks are worn.

I have never been entitled to a disability sticker but for a few weeks when mid way through a months radiotherapy and a further week or so afterwards I used the disability parking at local supermarket. After speaking on the phone with the manager and giving my reg number. He told staff that that car reg was temporary exempt. I shopped for my family and father using the trolley as support and to rest on as I had low cell count and difficulty getting sufficient oxygen.

I do think, that, when it comes to wearing masks/face coverings, everyone who is able to do so must when it is a legal requirement - those who cannot do so should have no fear of criticism, nor be required to prove they have an exemption.
Equally, those who choose to wear them in other situations when not a legal requirement should feel free to do so too.
It is for every individual to decide how best to protect themselves and, more importantly, others in the awful situation we find ourselves in (within the law, obviously!)

If I couldn’t wear a mask I’d not venture out, I’m not into gambling with my life nor others lives. Re my needs-I would use delivery services either professionals or family. This thing don’t take prisoners☹️

I read today about the effects of droplets emanating from coughing or sneezing. These droplets which can be counted in thousands can travel up to 6.6 metres.
I'm in the wear them if you can camp.
I firmly believe that there are people out there who do not understand that it is for the protection of others that the wearing of them is important. The fact that they offer some protection for yourself is a bonus, but only some protection.

I sort of agree with this, and i do have some sympathy with those who cannot wear masks for whatever reason, however, do you have a procedure for ensuring all those not wearing masks do have an exemption, from some areas I have visited there seems to be an aweful lot of people not wearing masks.

I’ve used online shopping. Was I wrong to do so? Should I and thousands like me not do it but crowd the shops instead with the added risk that brings to everyone?
You suspect what you like but we are all free to make the choice to use online shopping or not and it's my understanding that supermarkets are quite rightly giving priority to vulnerable/shielding/isolating folk.

I think you will find that Tesco prioritised those vulnerable customers in the initial stages of lockdown. We were certainly informed of this. They then made more slots available as they took on thousands of new employees to cope with demand and it was only after this that we were able to obtain slots which we found minimised our time in supermarket as all the heavy stuff is ordered this way. We merely shop for fresh food.
In fact I know that several employees that were made redundant from British Aerospace have found new employment as drivers for the local Tesco.
Not sure about other supermarkets.

Yup.....and the less policing we have of people not wearing face masks the greater the danger for everyone, not just the most vunerable, who one person on here thinks it is ok for them to visit supermarkets etc, even though there are a percentage of people not wearing masks who just dont want to, or who find it difficult.
Not visited a supermarket since all this kicked off with the exception of the village co-op which has isles wide enough to drive a bus down.
And here my sob sob story, daughters partner in East Grinstead just tested positive, he is asthmatic and has difficulty wearing a mask, but rightly or wrongly he took his son home to Wales on Sunday, son lives with mum, tested positive yesterday, daughter who has been on half term as a teacher, for over 1 week, went for test at Gatwick airport today

sorry but on Sunday when he took his son home, and actually you are allowed to transport your offspring back to their place of residence if parents are seperated etc, and on Sunday when he took his soon home he did not know he was covid19 positive, only on Monday when he felt rough did he go for a test, test results received yesterday, apology accepted

Mrs LLM and I have underlying health condition. In addition I also have mild Asthma and find wearing a mask difficult in over warm airless conditions. We shop online and at supermarkets. We both wear masks when we should but I have been known to remove mine if it becomes difficult. My decision and risk. I have though found one thing that frees up space. I just remove my mask and have a good cough and as if by magic space appears all around me.
