Cases also down in Nottingham. In Manchester they have plateaued so looks like tier three measures are working.

To get ahead of things I looked at delivery slots, obviously others had the same idea and the booking area was closed. I just hope there's not a rush of extreme panic buying again. frown

I think that Mrs LLM has slots booked for the next four weeks and even has the Turkey on order. Hopefully there will be a severe shortage of Brussel Sprouts laughing.

Not in the least. All that I have refered to is what I read on BBC news, today at around 3pm.

Headline: Covid in Scotland: 'Don't travel to England' warns first minister

Report Extract: Nicola Sturgeon has told people not to travel to or from England except for "essential purposes".
The first minister issued the appeal amid reports the Boris Johnson is poised to announce a national lockdown south of the border.
    .

I did read what you wrote. The report is of an appeal without legislation. Maybe you have more info? I am just going by what I read in this instance. The content and not the headline.

Perhaps they and we should introduce travel attestations such as the French use.  That should reduce movement.

Yes my normal approach is to consider advice or requests. Isn't that why such advice or requests are issue? For consideration? To date I have complied with all such requests. During previous measures before the welsh lockdown we were confined to Flintshire. I did leave Flintshire to drive to Leigh and Wigan since I decided it was essential that I drove my youngest grandson to Leigh and Wigan since he is autistic and doesn't always cope well.

An appeal request is just that to me. In this case an appeal for one to consider how essential our journey might be.

Looks like a month long lockdown in England. Cause- stupid people not willing to accept simple things like  avoid travel, avoid unnecessary contact, failure to social distance and wear masks. We deserve all we get, not only medically but financially. Unfortunately those of us who have complied have to pay for the sizable minority of Me Me Me people. Its OK those who  who transgressed can now blame the Government.

Not looking for sympathy from anybody Rufs, least of all from yourself, and so there is absolutely no need to apologise for not providing it. I was just pointing out that I do consider, and have, complied with requests.

If a taxi had been suitable for my grandson I would have been happy to finance that instead of going myself.

Looks like England headed for a lockdown but I shall wait for the announced actions rather than leaks to the press. I like he true info rather than newspaper headline or speculation.

All it seems media outlets go for "breaking news" and normally it is pure speculation which as time goes on the real story appears with very litle in common with what the rush to be "first with the news" was first reported

Now watching BBC news where they are saying that Nicola Sturgeon has issued  "a long and detailed tweet" including advice against travel to England.

Well thats great but, how on earth are the 50 million people in the UK not on twitter meant to become aware??

    Here’s a snippet -

"Overnight stays and holidays away from primary residences will not be allowed- including holidays in the UK and abroad. This includes staying in a second home, if you own one, or staying with anyone you do not live with or are in a support bubble with. There are specific exceptions, for example if you need to stay away from home (including in a second home) for work purposes."

"Not be allowed" implies it's law. Anyone know any better? Perhaps that's for Parliament to decide.

I noticed that our expectations are again being managed.  This time no mention of a vaccine by December, now it is spring 2021.  I wonder where it will be as we enter the New Year.  Autumn 2021 perhaps?

At the beginning of the year I purchased the ACSI card & Guide which, due to HM Gov directions was unused. A few days ago I bought a SatNav for the motorhome. Has Boris got it in for me?

I'm alright but I do feel sorry for the homeless at the present time for many reasons and no doubt folk having to sleep in a car whether reported on the news or not. They will be out there

I would be interested to know what you mean by  self isolation Fisherman. Do you think this should be carried out by everyone or just certain members of the population. You have to remember that a reliable vaccine may be months if not years away. I don't think it is as simple as you say it is. It may be for certain members of the population but not all.

May I respectfully suggest that if you are visiting supermarkets, albeit for food and essentials, you are not self isolating which is what I believe Fisherman is calling for. I have my groceries delivered to avoid having to visit supermarkets which is where I believe a lot of the virus is spreading. It is all well and good calling for people to self isolate but we need to know what that means especially for people who have to go to work.

I think some of the terminology is becoming confused.

Self isolation is what is required if you have a test and it proves to be positive. Ideally this should be living in a space alone, with others ensuring you are checked on, fed, kept warm, etc.... It is to keep others from catching the virus from you, and being alone is the best way. No travel anywhere.

Voluntarily staying at home while well, no travel beyond garden, is something different, and a decision made by the individual to stay safe from harm. It was “shielding” but that term isn’t being used this time. It will require individual/house unit to either have deliveries from family or friends, or cope with getting all needs online, or a mix of the two.

The vast majority of folks will be staying at home as much as they can, only going out for a bit of exercise, not meeting up with others out of same household (although it is permissible to meet up socially distanced with one other person if you live alone) limiting any physical shopping to essentials only, and living life via online purchasing and video links to family and friends. Those that can will work safely from home.

Things get more interesting for those with children. And those who have to go into a workplace. And those who share caring for children and others requiring help. Here being cautious and sensible is the key.

TtDA, I think that a  lot of these discussions revolve around semantics.

I've had arguments, totally unresolved, about such things as " when does / did the Century start or finish " . Quite likely to entertain folks thro to the end of this century !!  So I'm none too sure if I should Isolate / Shield / Self-protect / Hibernate or what. So Brian ain't going to join in this mini thread,  believe me  undecided, too much of a chicken for that !!
