Loyalty not rewarded
The caravan and Motorhome Club does not appear to value the Loyalty of Members.
I have been a member of the Caravan Club for a number of years and have never hesitated in renewing my membership.
My 12 monthly subscription is due again at the beginning of next month and I had intended to renew again but was very disappointed to see that they are, at the moment, offering new members a voucher for their first night on site. This is despite, I believe, a record numbers of new members joining the CAMC this year. Surely they should be rewarding their current members ?
There are repeated complaints that insurance companies, internet providers etc. do not treat Loyalty like Royalty and perhaps the actual individual cost is not so great but I will not be renewing my membership until I intend to use a CAMC site or a CL again.

Have you got any suggestions to put to the club on ways this could be done?

Well at least that way you'll get a voucher. Presumably you won't accept it as it's not fair to the existing members.

We didn’t get a voucher for re joining after a short break. Only time we have had one was for recommending a friend join. We used it at the most expensive Site We could find not too far away. We haven’t been back to that Site since😂

I belong to the Club because it meets my needs by what it has to offer. When that ceases to be the case I will give up my membership. I pay by Direct Debit each year so the first I know about my renewal is when the new membership cards arrive. Like JIll I am not sure what the OP has in mind. They mention a promotion to encourage new members which is just that a promotion which might otherwise be spent on advertising. Perhaps it is being suggested that all members get a site voucher? If that was the case it would cost the Club in the region of getting in for one and a half million pounds a year. As a non profit making organisation it would then have to recoup that money by putting up prices so it would become a vicious circle? Nothing to stop you, as you suggest, delaying renewal but that only saves you a few pounds and during that period of non membership you would not be able to book sites so it causes more problems than cures?

The voucher has been issued since the beginning of the year as I received one + a couple of stickers....
Agreed utilities & insurance companies don't discount you for loyalty but when your £1 per week membership fee saves you £12 per night on site fees I can't see your argument for no benefit/loyalty.....
As a member of a 'prestige' car club with similar fees I have been astounded by members of both clubs wanting extended memberships this year in what have been unprecedented circumstances, personally I'm happy to support them so they survive.....

I would much prefer CAMC to spend money (that'll be our money) on improving its admin efficiency and the IT systems rather than giving free nights or membership extensions which we members will ultimately have to pay for.

I can relate to the OP's point about being loyal
Quote "The caravan and Motorhome Club does not appear to value the Loyalty of Members."
At the beginning of this pandemic the club appealed to members to stay loyal and keep paying their membership to help them survive. Members have done this to help
Loyalty works both ways.

I don't understand this loyalty and why people expect it in either way.
People often expect me to be super loyal to the club but in reality I am loyal only because the club offers me exactly what I want and as soon as they don't then that will be it. Unlikely as that will be I know.
To the OP, and just my thoughts here, is it really the sole reason for not renewing?

Does it really? £12 is over inflated to keep non members away or entice them to join at least for a year. A true saving is measured against commercial sites offering similar facilities. In reality it is often much less of a saving and it can often be cheaper to use good or excellent commercial sites.

The way the DG explained it at the AGM was to say that with the exception of Club sites all other aspects of the Club were operating virtually normally. I appreciate that the sites are one of the main reason for being a member but it wasn't the Club that closed them for 3/4 months! The CMC has outshone the C&CC by a country mile if their forum is anything to go by. Their reviews on Trust Pilot are pretty damming as well. It looks as if the Club will have a pretty big deficit so in my view the survival of the Club is more important than some tokenism. Clearly some don't think like that?

Loyalty & the sense of it has been eroded & has almost died with most folk over the last 40yrs, when it was encouraged & rewarded back in the day it was enjoyed mutually. Then came the consumer champions who pointed out loyalty was being abused to the extent new customers(in all areas) were receiving better treatment than long standing members/customers who in reality were seen as cash cows & taken for granted. That began a great shift & rift. In my lifetime I’ve seen my cost of living get better at the expense of the huge profits of companies I was taken advantage by. The name club in reality is just a quaint throwback to the former century when it meant something.

Having been a member for 40 years I don't see any appreciable difference in the Club I joined all those years ago. OK rather than book post I now book online and I rarely look at the Handbook preferring to research online. I would really like some concrete examples where you think the Club is different to what it was 40 years ago?

I wasn’t posting about the C&MC per se but the word club as a stand alone institution. The word club truly was something in the last century, I remember being a guest at my father(& his brothers) club, being served food & drinks, they enthused greatly about clubs.

Quite a lot of other companies do reward me for loyalty.
Most supermarkets have all sorts of little rewards if I scan my regular customer card, M&S last month offered me a Sparks card with £5 off if I spent £40, Waitrose gives me a free newspaper. Tesco goes further and runs Clubcard boost giving triple face value of it's vouchers to use to cross the ChannelTunnel, Natwest gives me a credit of £3 a month in addition to free banking, Emirates Airways used to reward me with upgrades when I flew frequently with them. Booking.com has me as some sort of premium customer. The list could go on and on.
It's regular commercial practice to try to reward loyalty. I rather sympathise with the opening post in this thread.

Many would say that's the root of everything they see as being wrong with the club today.

The meaning of the word "club" within the CAMC is defined in the articles of association.
I suppose you could have a Cricket or Football something or other but it usually means something to do with a common interest, in this case caravans etc.
You could look at the title of this forum, a group forms a club?

Euro, surely you realise that those supermarket schemes in particular which they wrap up as loyalty rewards are actually data gathering and marketing exercises.

Football ‘club’ is certainly re common interest it has nothing whatsoever to do with loyalty rewards some charge £thousands for a season ticket😱🤷🏻♂️

All those organisations you mention have such schemes for several reasons. First and foremost is to retain you as a customer. I am not sure that directly relates to the CMC as they don't have the range of competitors that supermarkets for for example have. There is of course competition but it is not as concentrated as some of the organisations you mention. As mentioned loyalty schemes collect a lot of personal data which would otherwise be quite expensive to gather from elsewhere.
