ACSI 2021
We renewed our ACSI subscription n Autumn 2019 and as a result of Covid we did not go abroad so did not use it - fair enough not a large loss in the scheme of things. Having received their email I am now considering whether or not to get it for 2021. I'm interested to know others' thoughts.

I don't have a subscription to ACSI but just buy the book and camping card from the Club or a well known bookshop if I am going to use them - some years we go to sites and places where the card wouldn't be useful to us, or at times when it wouldn't be valid.

I have also left our subscription active. They sent an email about 3 weeks ago reminding about taking the money, so the time to cancel would have been then. We also got no use out of 2019, but at least as we were going later in the year I hadn't got round to purchasing the App. Nothing is showing on the credit card as yet, last year I think we got the books in December.

Aaargh - OH has told me we do't have an annual subscription but usually reorder every year when the email comes. I have to yet decide whether to order or not. We usually cover the cost despite using a variety of sites, many of which are not ACSI. We have recently used a number of Yelloh village sites (out of high season) as they have good facilities for disabled people and a loyalty scheme. Also, I read in the ACSI blurb that there are 400 less sites for next year.

We’re hoping to travel to France and Spain again next year, but won’t be buying an ACSI card until much nearer to our trip, anything could happen.
Incidentally, chatting to other ‘vanners last year, many Spanish sites were giving ACSI prices to non card holders if they paid in cash.

We had the email as well but our last cc expired so I think we'll leave it for 2021 and buy it later if we need it. Not even making any foreign trip plans. I'll just find that more depressing if it's cancelled again so we'll sort things out next year when we know how things are virus wise.
Didn't know about C&CC . Sad state of affairs. Wonder if this club thinking along those lines as well?

We found some Spanish sites that would give a generous OAP discount if staying for 14 days or more, which was just as good if not better than the ACSI discount. One Spanish site gave ACSI discount but only on certain pitches, e.g. right next to facilities block, which were not too our liking
p.s. my 2020 ACSI book lies unopened in our overseas travel bag

As it is highly unlikely we will be using ACSI we decided to cancel our subscription. What a hassle as you cannot cancel Online. You need to phone them and wait for someone to answer. In the meantime it is costing you for an overseas call admitedly not a great deal, but still a pain.

OH tells me ours is done by subscription, he has had an email and is happy to renew.
We have already decided that we are going away next year abroad somewhere. Ferry and tunnel already booked (carried over from this year) Not prepared to sit around for another year wishing we had gone.

I see in the press today that BF are going to suspend all their Plymouth sailings until at least Mar 2021 from the end of October. Dont think this will affect you TG but it may be the first signs of reduced services from all ports going into 2021

I saw that to Rufs, no it doesn't affect us on the bookings we have in place.
I also saw that from, I think April 2021, they are going to increase their sailings from Plymouth to Santander.
With their new ships coming into service maybe they carry more so bigger ships less sailings They did say sailings were down but hoped they would recover next year.
How you doing?

Interesting, unless I've miss read it, come January 2021 you will not get cover for having to cancel a trip if you are contacted by NHS to say you have to isolate.
I can see that some folk would take the risk and still travel, that would not be good.

great tks, managed 1 month away in Devon, no touring just stayed on the 1 site for whole month, near Tavistock, great month weather wise, sea swimming etc great. Our daughter and son in law have both recently had covid, surprised they have not had before now, both front line medics, but all good, daughter still suffering from headaches but back at work, 3 Gkids showed no symptoms but they may have had it who knows. tks for asking, guess you now hunkering down for the winter, in a perverse way, loved winters when we lived in Scotland, Fyvie, north of Aberdeen.
Booked on ferry for France enroute to Southern Spain for early April 2021, fingers crossed. Do not subscribe to ACSI but will buy when available £10 will not break the bank. Stay safe

I can't see that on the NW page: https://www.nationwide.co.uk/support/coronavirus/flexplus-cover-covid-19
What is interesting is the option to cancel any upgrades if the insurance hasn't been / won't be used for the current period.https://amends.u-k-insurance.co.uk/#/travel_refund/request/eligibility

We are the same, so glad i booked direct with BF. The ferry they cancelled they sent a voucher straight away.
The return ferry that we have not been able to use, even though we moved it to September. BF have refunded in full. Which leaves us with a booking for April to Bilbao, its on a flexi ticket so could change if we want to.
I also booked a tunnel for our September trip but of course that didn't happen. Booked through the club so need to adjust that to next June as our return.
Its been changed once already to February, that was as far ahead as I could do at the time, next years scheduled is now out so can move it to June now.
Barring a total ban on travel or us being unwell we are going, all depends on how Spain is doing we might give it a go or it might be another country.
We have been out and about in the UK but it would be so nice to go abroad to more space and warmth.

Good to hear the family is doing well and that you got away for a month.
We've been out and about to but not stopping in one place.
No hunkering down here once we get a few things done we will be off again. Might have to be just Scotland or borders but we will get away in the MH I think.
Had thought about 2 weeks in Lanzarote but the flights tripled in price while we were looking at them, then a few said only a few seats left.
If its going to be that busy then they can keep it. We are due to go to our timeshare apartment in March for 3 weeks. Flights already booked and paid so providing they are still flying we will be going.
Not bothered about if we have to quarantine on return, no hardship as we will have the garden to do and the vans to prepare for going to Spain in April.

Hi TG, Well as a Cornish person might say, as regards having to cancel, "matter do it?"
I cannot claim to know what people do but from looking on here, and as this is a thread specifically about ACSI, I get the impression that most people are taking 'independent' holidays.
That being the case it would most likely only consist of a ferry booking, or ferry and sites.
The impression I get is that ferry operators and sites have mainly tried to accommodate changes customers have had to make so for many having to cancel will actually just mean having to change their ferry and/or sites booking.
It is all too easy to get tunnel vision over Covid cover but, so far as travel insurance, Nationwide have confirmed, in writing, that all other cover is still effective.
That will maybe not reassure some but if it is a deal breaker then foreign travel is either over or will be more problematic/expensive.
Interestingly I have been receiving emails from holiday firms, Tui etc, and they all seem to have some form of Covid Guarantee which may reassure people and push business their way rather than the uncertainty of a DIY camping trip.
As for your last point I agree that people may be tempted if they think they will lose money-lets face it many people seemed to lose their concerns when Eat Out to Help Out was going!!

we are very fortunate to live by sea and countryside with a beach house close buy so dont feel the need to get out and about in the cvan, also getting soft in our old age, used to cvan in the snow in Scotland, Breamar, -5c, lovely

We had upgrades for this year, taken out in early March before an expected March trip to Spain and France for 6 weeks, so an upgrade for length of stay and also a more significant upgrade for medical reasons. I contacted them when it became obvious that we would not be going and would also not be taking up the amended booking for this year and was given a refund dated from 18th.March to my renewal date, effectively giving me over 90% of the extra premium back.
I think this latest amendment to their terms just incorporates the practice that they've been using into the policy wording itself.

I would like to think that most folk who are contacted to say isolate would do so.
If you are using your own LV then things can usually be re-arranged.
Likewise those who book a holiday through a travel agent, most of which as you say are offering Covid cover.
However there are other forms of holidays that cannot be re-arranged so easily. We have timeshare in Lanzarote, we were there earlier this year when Spain went into lockdown. We were one of the lucky ones as we were at the end of our holiday. Many others this year have missed out on not being able to travel to their resorts for the weeks they own. While they got refunds for the flights, you cannot get refunds on the maintenance costs you pay to your resort. These costs have to be paid or the resort would close. Many resorts only break even most years, this year with very few visitors spending money in the resort bar and restaurant, usually a good profit making business the resorts are struggling. Owners know this, there is no insurance company that I know of that will insure you against your maintenance payment. Therefore you either loose money or take a gamble on going against advice. These are the folk I was referring to. In my resort some folk own multiple weeks, their maintenance runs into thousands of pounds a year. I could see some being tempted to go rather than loose money.
Nationwide are underwritten by UK insurance who underwrite lots of insurance companies. I'm pretty sure come next year or later this year we will see a lot of changes to holiday policies.
