    I only asked!

There was no need to verge on rudeness in your reply.

I am aware that many Dutch people have a good sense of humour and that many are excellent in their use of English.

As our "Cloggy" (they know they are all called that) friends say,  they speak good english as being the best international language . it is needed as no one can understand or speak their language wink

No, it's not an easy language to learn; I know, as a Dutch person by birth I've taught OH Dutch; he can speak and understand it to a great extent, but certain words/expressions still beat him wink

Although English could be perceived as being not as difficult to learn, it still took me about 2 years to feel I was totally fluent.  Dialect and people talking very fast are just 2 problems.  Despite having the equivalent to an A-Level in English, when I first came to live here, it was almost like having to learn it all over again.

As for ACSI, our guides have been in the bookcase all year frown we don't have a subscription, but have bought it via the C&CC for the last couple of years.  They aren't selling it this year, so will have to get it elsewhere and let's hope the 2021 edition won't have gathered dust by this time next year!

Thanks for the update re C&CC; we also got the CCI from them in 2019, so I'll keep an eye on their website.

Hope we can all travel safely in 2021, but not building up my hopes for a while yet.

However there are other forms of holidays that cannot be re-arranged so easily. We have timeshare in Lanzarote, we were there earlier this year when Spain went into lockdown

Hi TG, Clearly not a scenario I considered!
After my post and mentioning getting emails from holiday companies I have had half a dozen telling me that Canaries are ‘open again’ so good news for some maybe.

Its brilliant news for the Canaries as they rely on tourism, its also one of the biggest timeshare strongholds, so lots of owners will be delighted at being able to go to their apartments.

I hope though that it doesn't go the way Portugal did in September, one quick flash then back off the list again. Winter is their second biggest season, mainly older retired folk who rent apartments and villas for months and of course those who have holiday homes fly out in October for the whole winter.

    Apologies for going off thread.

WTG, such a shame to read about the C&CC cutting overseas travel and insurance. I hope they do start it up again it would be such a loss for many.

We joined a few years back and have been very happy with their sites and was looking forward to trying out their winter rallies.

I'm inclined to agree. Their location is often less remote than CAMC sites, which frequently seem to be in the middle of nowhere, and therefore more "motorhome friendly", plus you can have the option of non EHU which makes them very cost-effective.

But I'm digressing to "over here" on the overseas section. embarassed

My brother has a similar problem insofar as he and SiL pay into one of those Holiday Bonds and has had 5 separate trips all to different parts of Europe and UK cancelled this year. Not sure what compensation he will be getting from the company involved, if any.

He did recover his fares for the flights that were cancelled but only after prolonged messaging.

Its hit some folk hard, especially those who have not understood that yearly maintenance means exactly that.

With a bit of luck your brother and SIL may have been able to roll over there holidays to another year. I think the holiday bonds don't own anything physical, they pay so much a year to withdraw weeks in resorts all over.

Nationwide used to cover for loss of timeshare weeks until around 8 years ago, if its rental they cover it but if its your own weeks they don't.

I don’t seem to have had my email ‘prompt’ from ACSI yet this year. Last year, I was asked to check my details on 1/10, but so far nothing this year. It doesn’t actually renew until 1st Jan though.

Has everyone else had their similar email?
