Whilst living on m own and going fishing every couple of weeks my 'weekends' often started 11.45 Thursday and finished 6am Monday .... known in England and Wales as a 'long weekend'. It is generally the short weekend that starts Friday after work and ends Sunday PM

You are not expected to know M it was reported on local news👍🏻

Hi TW, as would anyone who has stayed on the Isles of Scilly!!

Hi, So it’s easy is it?
Maybe if you are running a business that is struggling to keep going it’s not.Maybe if you are struggling to keep afloat with your minimum wage job at a hotel, it’s not.
Maybe if you know that Cornwall had 2 million visitors in the summer, with no apparent affect on infection rates, it’s not.
Maybe you are seriously struggling to see how if something is so serious it’s not been made illegal, it’s not.
I won’t be visiting any areas I feel may compromise my safety but that’s my choice and, compared to many, it’s an easy one to make.

Your business versus your life. Mmm, difficult choice there A&J. I guess common sense and morals don’t always go hand in hand with running 5* luxury hotels.
Don’t forget that the 2m visitors came here during a time of lower infection rates whereas rates are now rising and this issue primarily concerns visitors from tier 3 ares where rates are at their highest.

Awww thanks. That really mean a lot from a 'real' cyclist. I'm kitted up for the winter, amazing how much difference a skull cap and neck warmer really makes. Although I'm going to have to work on my feet as they were the only part that were cold, (it was about 8C)
Actually I'm just planning my new adventure. Last Saturday I woke up early and went off well before sunrise and it was great having the streets and city centre all to myself to myself and watching the 'sunrise', as it was well lit streets my simple lights from Wilko worked well enough, but it got me thinking... I'm going to do some country lane cycling even earlier, say from about 5am (yes mad but somehow it really appeals) so investing into some really bright lights.

well if David quotes my post then I see it as a direct reply to me and to the contents of my post. Always will, why shouldn't I.
If it was a standalone post then why quote my post?

always use a head torch in conjunction with cycle lights, much easier to cast light into areas that may be of concern

TW, I would guess that you fall into none of the descriptions I made in my post, which would go hand in hand with your ‘simplistic’ take on the issue.
As for common sense and morals, maybe the hotelier is taking their lead from the government?
In my simplistic view so long as I maintain my distance from people, wear a mask when I can’t, or it’s required, and wash/sanitise there is no greater risk to me and, if there is, why has travel from the Tier 3 areas not been made illegal?

Personally, I like to look at the bigger picture than just how it affects me, A&J. If that's a simplistic take, then so be it.
I cannot answer for the Govt, as you well know, but I believe the measures should be enshrined in law.

Well there's a relief! So you weren't implying that by "visiting three different places , staying in three lots of rented accommodation" I was being "reckless/inconsiderate/foolhardy etc"?
And I'm still able to visit Cornwall? (Good, I'll be there in just over a week's time!) 👍
As I said earlier, we must all decide what is reasonable and responsible within the current restrictions. I don't live in a tier 2/3 area, nor do I intend visiting one. I have great sympathy though for the folks whose lifes and livelihoods are being so restricted.

TW, the bigger picture is what I was trying to consider.
As I said, I have no difficult decisions to make, but what about those affected, both directly and indirectly, in regards to their livelihoods?
It seems unrealistic that people, many in low paid, seasonal, and probably insecure, jobs are expected to think that something that could see them lose their job is a good idea whatever the intentions.
Is it that tighter restrictions would require more financial support?
I do fear though that the only way that travel can be controlled is if there is a national ‘lockdown’ so whilst we are, at the moment, less restricted that may not last.

I believe that the impact on the Cornish economy can be reversed to some extent by your pasty spending.
On a sadder note just hearing that St Austell Brewery will be making around 100 staff redundant now that furlough is ending.0 -
If we get back to Rocky's post, he was making the point that lives matter, lives come first. How can anyone dispute that?
The operator of Hendra has no qualms about making the right decision to protect lives.

It’s a personal view point A&J, I’m not capable of accepting someone’s profits or even business is more important than Human life, I’m old fashioned like that🤷🏻♂️. I’m not going to argue over covid-19 deaths anywhere in the World let alone Cornwall☹️. I accept we are on totally different pages on this, you are welcome to your views but they’re not mine. Enjoy your evening👍🏻

How very rude, Davie boy. It's certainly nothing to do about setting a low level of enjoyment, it's what we like to do. We can't be bothered with all the messing around you seem to do to get away from this country, and as you are so keen to point out that things are OH so much better over there I can't understand why you choose to grace Britain with your presence.

Ha ha, I’m not the cyclist, it’s my OH that’s the fanatic. 😁 I merely potter around. Regarding feet, OH wondered what kind of pedals you use, clip ins or flats. Clip ins you could get Winter boots, but they are expensive. If you just use something like trainers, then it’s the draught you need to stop. Some riders buy slightly bigger shoes and layer thicker socks, or there’s the Bradley Wiggins tip.........socks on, then plastic bag over top! That’s an old favourite with horse riders as well, and it works😂
Lights are life savers, as are Hi Vis jackets, you can get some with lights as part of the jackets, helmet lights (front and rear). My OH used to commute regular to and from work, early mornings and dark nights, he has a huge collection of lights for bike and person. Don’t know if you have heard of Planet X or Wiggle, but both are good online outlets. OH has had three bikes from Planet X, their showroom wasn’t far from where we live, but they have gone online now. Don’t forget Aldi cycling specials as well, they have some pretty decent stuff in occasionally.👍

The Co-op are doing a similar thing near us, converting what was a Guesthouse/restaurant into a new store.

Thanks, M. It's "funny" how crass some people are, just because others don't want to do the same things that they like to do. Still it takes all sorts I suppose.

We like the Coop. Nice food, usually great choice. Agree about them serving communities. Some nice old buildings as well😁
Lots more ambulances out around here☹️ No plans to go anywhere tomorrow, leave last day before Tier 3 to the lemmings. Freezer is stocking up, next Tesco delivery is organised, logs/smokeless stocked up, all appointments sorted and done, plenty of bags for garden recycling sorted, and DIY projects planned. Time to hunker down for a month, hoping local park will be too cold for most now.
