NHS test/trace on site
Well, I've just had the email saying we have to register with the nhs test and trace app when arriving on site. As a couple we own standard old school phones which don't have the app facility so are we now discriminated against and can't enjoy our hobby?

I have also just seen the e-mail and I am extremely disappointed that one of the biggest criticisms of the NHS App has been ignored by the club, in that too many people can't use it. Either because it requires a Smart phone or like myself with a Smart phone, can't use it because my Android system isn't new enough.
It's about time that organisers of these systems realised that we don't all feel the need to replace perfectly good phones every few months.
I really hope that there is a sign in system set up on sites that we can actually use.

I understood it was possible to register at check in by use of the paper form for people without smartphones or in areas of no signal.🤷🏻♂️
PS. It says asked to, not have to so I don’t see it as mandatory.

There is a major problem in the world today ,unless you are part of the throw away (keep spending on new)society then it seems ,as many of the "forgotten population" are not catered for,
My OH will have nothing to do with computers/smart? anything as noted yesterday when unlees you looked at the very small print on the back of an NHS letter (which gave a contact number)every thing was expecting to be "on line"

JVB. It's not "throw away, keep spending" in relation to communication technology, far from it, would you rather still be carrying around a "brick" cell phone in a suitcase? The Android 6 marshmallow version needed for the app, for instance, is already five years old.
As TW says you can check in via a paper format at reception if needed. some venues just need a name and a contact number.

I have asked Rowena to get some clarification on this but I agree with TW it can't be mandatory otherwise I think they would have said that and it would have sparked thousands of cancellations!
Having said that I used the QR code at Seacroft earlier in the week on both of our Android phones and it seems an easy way of registering your location. I feel more comfortable using the app than giving my details to any tom,dick or harry in a pub or a restaurant! Who knows where those details end up? Whether we like it or not the future will require us to be connected or be in the slow lane!

I too received said email today and quietly seethed. I have emailed the club for further info re those whose phones cannot download the serco app & those who, for a variety of reasons, dont want to. I await their reply.
I dont think having a phone more than 5 years old requires you to have a large or heavy phone - a lot of the modern ones I have seen seem quite large to me.

I totally agree the email could have been better worded, but as the App method of checking in is totally anonymous and no address details are shared, the other method would be checking your address if you didn't have the App. Perhaps using your photo driving licence to prove it is actually you.

I am not sure why you say the App is from Serco who had nothing to do with it. The App is a cooperation between Google and Apple. The NHS tested this app against their original one and found the Google/Apple was the better option. You may be getting confused with the fact that Serco run Track and Trace for the Government but the app is separate.

I won't be scanning any barcodes, on camp sites or anywhere else. The few bookings we had for the rest of the year have now been cancelled. It's all going in completely the wrong direction, so even though we are in the lowest level tier here, we haven't been inside anyone's house nor had anyone in ours since this all began in March but we have done gardens. Neither have we visited a pub cafe or restaurant this year, not one, just fuel stations and food shops, and even then we click and collect for preference. We have been away, for fewer nights than normal, and have visited some of this club's sites and some camping club sites. Of the two, we preferred the camping club system where you don't have to enter reception and the toilets blocks are shut to reduce cross contamination... Its going to be a long winter, reading, TV and local walks only for us.

The email also states for England "Members and guests who reside in a Local Alert level of Very High should not travel to any of the Club’s other campsites". This is stronger than the current law which advises against travel from a Very High alert level, but does not prohibit it.

I was pointing out how things have developed since the original cell phones, size doesn't matter but upgraded communications do. Over the years I've resisted new developments until prices come down (I'm the daughter of a telecommunications research engineer! ) Nowadays cheap reliable up to date phones are available, they used to takes ages to appear on the market. The technology on Android is now five years old so anyone without it is using an out of date system, maybe in a crisis like this it might be sensible to update rather than resist? The club is asking people, if they have the facility to use it, slower paper checks involving more face to face contact are available.
There are a lot venues which now legally have to provide the QR code, a £10,000 fine awaits those who don't.

Will the App sound an alarm if you are from a tier 3 area and scan a bar code in a tier 1 or 2 area? If not it can't really be used to check if folk come from a very high area and other address checks would be required. Even post codes wouldn't be that reliable, as they cross county boundaries that are generally used for setting the tiers. Lots of north Nottinghamshire have Doncaster (South Yorkshire) post codes and parts of East Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire ones. Hopefully it will only be a very small minority that try to avoid the restrictions.

Ditto....I had the 'brick' cell phone, complete with leather suitcase and shoulder strap...... about the same time as I purchased one of the first 'home' computers..built by Sharp as an all in one...no mouse then !!. I wouldn't want to go back to either.
As you mention, the technology in smart phones required to use the NHS app is well over 5yrs old. Our iPhone 7 Plus model (personally rated as one of the better iPhones) quite happily scanned the QR code at Chester Fair Oaks recently. Its no big deal and is better than giving out personal data every time you go into a restaurant etc...

Thank you Brue, I thought I had read it somewhere.
Martin Lewis, in his program this week in answer to the question on unsuitable phones, pointed out that modern ones could be obtained for as little as £15p.m. and in his view it was worth upgrading if you were spending £10 per month or more.

I draw everyone's attention to the following extract...
"Venues must not make the specific use of the NHS QR code a precondition of entry (as the individual has the right to choose to provide their contact details if they prefer)."
Personally we are happy to register on a paper form if its available.
Hopefully that will put everyone's mind at rest.

It's not mandatory just a request as we read it. Our phones are just that PHONES and our computer a laptop. Tablets as far as we are concerned is something you get from the chemist. Even if we had a smart phone we would not download an App (whatever that is) that reported back to a system run by the former CEO of TalkTalk. Our details were among those of thousands hacked. The adage once bitten twice shy applies we wouldn't trust anything that is run by that particular individual. The club needs to send out another email reassuring members that alternative means of registering their details will be accepted and that this "App" is NOT A REQUIREMENT.
