In answer to your first question then Wales also use the same app as England. Scotland and N.I. have their own.

The email and information page that it leads you to isn't very good at explaining things. The club is dreadful at Communicating their message in the same way as their website is third rate and some of their working practices haven't evolved from the 1950s.

The point made on the information page does seem to indicate that all members would have to sign in and use the NHS app whereas the reality is that you should use it if you have the app installed, if not then someone with a Quill and Ink pot to hand will take your details.

Just as an aside, I understand that the English App failed to inform Londoners they had moved into Tier 2 this morning, another glitch on the system.

Thank goodness we got the World Beating one and not the one from Poundland eh?smile

It's not for the club, Toby, but fulfilling Govt requirements.

And you don’t need a phone to check in.

if not then someone with a Quill and Ink pot to hand will take your details.

Would it be reasonable to assume that the members details will be on the CAMC's fantastic IT system so recording details on parchment is probably OTT?

It's much better than that LLM. She's the Overlord appointed by BJ to bring the World Beating Service to us plebs (and I hope that's just a typo in your reply.)

As I understand it the tracking bit of the App was developed by Apple and Google and is built into the operating system of the phones. Hence the reason why anything before the iPhone 6 will not work, as it is not capable of running the latest operating systems. The NHS bit is just the front end, it provides general information, including the risk level for your input post code, QR code scanning and the input of test results / quarantine clock. So the basic guts of the App are down to Google and Apple the rest is just bells and whistles.

Dido weaves a tangled web, but in a nutshell is a Uni friend of David Cameron, was in charge of TalkTalk at the time of the phone hacking scandal, was part of the Cheltenham Festival board that managed to make sure this super spreader event went ahead in March, was part of the now defunct Public Health England, and now heads up the NHS Track and Trace effort. Effort being an overstatement.

The CEO of Serco is Rupert Soames. His brother is Nicholas Soames, Tory MP. Grandfather was Churchill, sometimes a Tory MP, sometimes a Liberal. Serco gets lots and lots of Government contracts, notorious on occasion for b@llsing things up rather badly, but nevertheless considered a safe pair of hands to oversee the most sensitive initiative in terms of keeping the population of England and Wales safe.

Make of all that what you will. On the bright side, Failing Grayling isn’t the Minister for Anything at the moment, so some spark of hope......😂

Forget about Serco JVB, they are involved in some track and trace facilities but as Steve says, not the app.

A while back I heard on the radio that 2,000 Track 'n Trace staff have been laid off.  The number would have been higher but they [Serco?] were unable to contact them.

The test and trace App is downloaded from the App or Play Store, I'm fairly sure they aren't permitted to sell the fact you have bought the App to anyone. The only info you put into it is the first part of your post code. I certainly haven't had any more junk than normal and certainly nothing that I would attribute to downloading it. I suspect it is just fake news. Far more likely the source of the adverts is some other site they have given details.🤔

Details can be shared with the police to enforce isolation if someone is contacted by the T&T team and instructed to isolate.

That is quite separate from the anonymous automated app system which requests people to isolate. That request is acknowledged to be unenforceable because no one knows who the contacts are.

The app info is contained only within phones and not stored on a central database. That's what part of the fuss was with the Govt's own failed app which did store info centrally.

As the only details on the App is the first part of my post code I'm not sure the police would find that very useful. If you scan into a restaurant with the QR code no useable data is exchanged with anyone, the information is just retained on your phone and would only become important if someone, who also  scanned that code, later reported a positive test.

That's just not possible JVB. The details are just stored as codes that only Apple and Google, if anyone, could interpret. On past  form I don't think they are going give the police or even the intelligence services access. As I said the only other info in the App is the first four digits of our post code.

Oh they would also actually have to get hold of my phone, as information isn't stored on a central database as TW stated. I think there is some confusion here between test and trace and the App.

I use GPS a lot on watches, phones & the car. I/we have an option of tracked or not tracked I’ve used this for years I’ve yet to fall foul of a scam. Yes they’re out their but it takes human error mainly in giving them the info they need to get at your belongings. Contrary to the fables that freak out older folk-the super scammers are interested in the wealthy not a few £’s in joe public’s bank account👍🏻. Read everything first, never ever give out bank info👍🏻. ED, yes I know you know this, your post was just a vehicle thanks👍🏻😊

For those who have the app  - I don't - have you noticed any major change in battery drain?  I get a day out of a battery normally but wouldnt want it to be less.

Steve, I think there is general confusion between the T&T manual tracing scheme where details are known and the anonymous app system.

No, BMB, no noticeable difference. It's possible to only turn it on when you want to use it, if that's your choice.
