    I think it is considered safer to use the phone for banking over a PC. The banks certainly seem to be promoting it that way.I have been using on line banking almost since the day it was introduced and I have never had a problem.

    I also can control the lights in various rooms, I got them from Wilko, called TCP or something like that, quite cheap I recall.

    They have a standard bayonet fitting for the ceiling, link up to the wifi and you can set up switch on/off for different days and times but also the colour, switch on and off all from hundreds of miles away. Have about 5 front and back.

    Hi Surfer, There may be a reason you do not wish to use the app but similarly I would not wish to be giving my phone number to some guy in a high vis jacket at the supermarket entrance with no interest in keeping it secure.

    I use the capability of my smartphone to help me do things I want to do, like translate language, record my car journeys, check the weather,bike rides etc.

    I don’t use FB, Twitter or other such social media however, if, as I tend to do, roll my eyes or tut tut at something my wife is reading to me she quickly reminds me that as far as she is concerned FB is no worse than that “caravan thingy you use”.

    I did say run their lives, not rule it!!!! A Smartphone is a wonderful piece of technology so why not use it to its full potential? I think you will find that your bank account details are not on the phone. They are on the website you navigate to. Anyone finding your phone would have to have to have the login details. Perhaps you have not thought to deeply about using it to control your heating? We have the Hive system and just as we are going away I reduce the thermostat temperatures to provide frost protection. Just before we leave to go home I restore the thermostat to the normal temperature so when we arrive home we have a nice warm house. Spent far too many years getting home to a cold house!!!

    The NHS COVID App is there to help protect all of us. It won't be perfect but the point of it is to alert people to the fact they may have the virus and if they follow the rules they won't pass it on to someone else. With regards supermarkets the App measures relatively prolonged contact which is most unlikely in a supermarket even at a till.

    I regard my smart phone as a smaller version of my laptop (or full scale computer if I had one.) I rarely use apps, I dip in and out of things I want to know or read about. However I have downloaded the NHS Test and Trace app. This app is slightly different to the manual Track and Trace used by venues who ask for your details or in the case of CAMC have them available on their own system.

    I'm pleased to see Rowena's response but it needs to be emphasised.

    Track and Trace is manual and not anonymous.

    Test and Trace via the NHS app is anonymous and automatic.

    This NHS FAQ LINK provides info on which venues in Englad are legally required to have a QR code.

    The reasons that supermarkets are not required is stated although personally I think, as they are the leading cause of transmission they ought to be! (And apparently if you enter a supermarket cafe, it must have a QR code.)

    At least the Club have now confirmed what most of us already thought, that no one was going to stop anyone who didn’t have or use a Smart phone from staying. It can take a generation for some life improving technology to be considered and used by some folks, but that’s their decision.

    My Dad was never a lover of cars. He never learned to drive, never owned a car. But by the end of his very long life (no doubt partly due to his overall fitness due to walking everywhere in his younger days) he was an absolute enthusiast. Couldn’t wait to climb in and be transported all over the place, in warmth and comfort. It took time, but bless him, he got there in the end. He did however have a mobile phone. He only did calls and texts, but he soon got the hang of it. We ensured all the security was done for him.

    I don't agree about supermarkets David purely on the only likely explanation given by a GP for a virus I caught  was from the "contained atmosphere" in one! But that's my personal take on things. wink

    Much of the guidance about Covid has been advisory and it's been said on here manual Track and Trace is already in use on caravan sites. So no need for smart phones for those who aren't using them.

    I believe 10 million plus who have smart phones have signed up for the NHS app, let's hope it works for those using it. smile

    We were at Tewkesbury a couple of weeks ago, they had the code up on the gate both myself and hubby tried to do it but it would not work.  We suspected because it was just a piece of paper which had got creased and wet.

    I thought it would not be necessary as the club knows who is on site and no visitors are allowed on sites at the moment

    I'm all for using the app so maybe the club could arrange to have it printed on the back of the receipt given at check in? 

    Been disappointed with the club since lockdown was eased, they continually promise non contact check in but so far we have visited 6 CMC sites not one has done contactless check in.  Tewkesbury was by far the best the warden met us at the gate and told us to pitch up then go to reception to tell them what pitch we were on and pay, so only needed to go inside once.

    We have stayed at three private sites, only had to go inside at one.

    Morris Leisure two sites had to go in at both

    CCC two sites, by far the best check in no need to get out of vehicle and social distancing brilliant

    The best so far has been Eye Kettleby Lakes, private site everything contactless, the extra cleaning on site was brilliant, all service pitches and as soon as someone left they were there cleaning the service points.

    I think we all have to work together to make this work but the club could maybe be doing more to help

    There was some posts, probably on one of the other Covid threads about a report in the Guardian saying that the experts were leaning towards the transmission for these materials being overrated.

    However some Australian scientists at a Disease centre have proved that this virus was able to live on plastic for up to 28 days. They used some plastic currency notes to prove it. So as far as I'm concerned I'm carrying on as if all materials are to be "defused" before use.

    I thought contactless was only in operation when the sites initially reopened?  We have only stayed at two sites since August and I was perfectly happy with the arrangements. My booking in was complicated by the fact I was using site vouchers (the old ones) which caused a bit of confusion on how best to deal with them. All worked out fine in the end but meant I was in reception for longer than normal. However I was wearing a mask and there was a screen between me and the site staff so it felt reasonably comfortable.

    We have only used the QR code once and that was actually in reception but there was one stuck to the inside of the window which could be used when reception was closed from the outside.

    I prefer the sites which have managed to go contactless. On one CAMC site I nearly fell over the departure bucket for wrist bands which had been left in the reception entrance by mistake!! surprised

    You might not be the only exception, but you are quite predictable😁

    I love my iPhone, my iPad, my Mac Book. But they are just tools. Exceptionally clever ones, and having mislaid an iPhone (I got it back, I knew where it was) I missed its being around. The trick is to still have a life away from such technology. I can put them down, turn them off, and don’t subscribe or use things like FB, Twitter, etc... that are constantly pinging and dinging away in the background. I have ringtones set up so I can recognise “must answer, find out later, and totally ignore”. 

    My iphone/iPad are now my TV,  radio, night time story, cinema, library, camera, encyclopaedia, diary, fitness record, health record, communication system, photo library, bank, shopping list, video recorder, idea keeper, cycling diary, weather checker, road atlas, translator and wallet. Lots more as well should I choose.... all as encrypted and protected as I can make them.

    If nothing else, think of the weight saved when touring!😂

    Life changing & life saving is tech. My sat nav in the case of an accident & I’m unresponsive will link with my phone & send out a What 3 words type position to the emergency services. The fact I can face time family all over the globe has kept me sane during the early pandemic👍🏻

    We have stayed on nine CAMC sites. 6 necessitated two visits to reception, once to pay and then to get bands / barrier fob / toilet key. Two, Tewkesbury and Cirencester sent you straight onto site to choose your pitch and you then went back to pay etc. At one Clumber, you went in to pay but they handed bands / barrier fobs to you outside when you returned to report your pitch number. Two of the 9 had bands in fluid, the rest had personal bands that you returned when you left.

    The OH dealt with checking in but she felt the Covid Covid precautions at all sites good and did not feel at risk.
