My comment was very much tongue in cheek and possibly a little unfair as I don't read comics. 😂. Beano anyone?

We all read what we like. I don’t know what you read but won’t try and belittle you for reading it as it is a personal choice.

Don't be so touchy.  No offense meant.  I thought you needed a sense of humour to read the Daily Mail 😃.

Do you think if that happened now we might have a lockdown.

The point I made about giving some facts and figures on the real situation was to put it in perspective. Whilst the numbers may seem very high they are not out of control. Currently debt is 85% of GDP. Another way of looking at it is that as individual you take out a mortgage often your debt ratio is between two and four times your income so looking at it like that the Government debt doesn't sound too bad.!!!

Because as statistics as published from around the world tend to show the resultswink

without a worldwide in countries lockdowns, the fatalities would have been far worse than the flue out break you seem to be talking about.

As I said how do you know this.  To know you need to do both lockdowns an none lockdowns not just statistics which can be made to show what you want.

David I think you might be quoting 2018 figures, I had a look at the ONS and they were quoting over 100% in August...but never mind I also read that China owes us (and a few others)  a few billion in compensation...ha ha. wink

The north did as covid figures  went up but not before there was a big exodus South  where there was not at first a lockdown where it really took off

As far as I'm aware both Italy and France locked down two to three weeks before the UK.  Since then Italy has done quite well possibly because the population is more personally and publicly controlled.  By giving up some freedoms they have gained others.  We especially in the north, could learn a lot.

It was 2020 but only to March and obviously things have got worse since them but my substantive point remains that I don't think we are at risk of bankruptcy.

Sweden IMO is not a country we should be using as a bench mark. With a population of only 5m it is smaller than London .

I would be laying up my caravan and moving to Sardinia for a couple of months if one of mine had a holiday home there laughing

ISTM that the suggestion regarding conduct during the current pandemic is somewhat akin to the response about club sites when those who comment on shortcomings are told to "go elsewhere.

Perhaps a more balanced view should be as summed up in the directive to "love your neighbour as yourself".

Not to be picky but I think Sweden has a population of around 10 million but I agree that it is probably not as useful comparator to the UK? The land mass is also nearly twice the size of the UK so a very low density of population compared to the UK and they like their fresh air.

I think we(U.K.) have the 2nd worst per capita death rate in Europe behind Sweden☹️. I read this at least a month ago but I doubt things have moved much.
