I think England is in a frightening scenario at the moment. Political decisions, some made a very long time ago, some hours old, are highlighting how fragile we are as a nation in terms of being able to cope with anything seriously threatening our comfort zone. Resources in terms of health services, PPE production, test and trace technology, even being able to oversee all the rhetoric spouted from various quarters isn’t in place or was seriously stretched to begin with. Add into that mix the destructive tendency of certain sections of our society to think that any rules don’t apply to them for a variety of reasons, (too important, too thick, for example) and you have the near perfect storm.

I for one have no respect or sense of capability in some of those making very tough decisions on behalf of this country at the moment. ☹️

The one thing that many do not appreciate is that every thing it seems, as with many other countries in this very dangerous situation, ,some things seem to work but a lot depends on how the populations react,

There was quite a problem yesterday in one of the village pubs when a group of people from an alternative "caravaning community" refused to wear face coverings or social distance ,the landlord was injured ,and when the police attended ,they would not arrest or fine any of the perpetrators undecided

Thanks ttda, yes, we used CLs this time, plus another 5 van site.  The last 2 nights between Gainsborough and Scunthorpe, and very close to the river Trent.  A great area for cycling, and as you say, very few people about in that area.

Well, I hear that Tredegar House CAMC site has been closed as Newport is in local lockdown.  Although the site is still open, I've just cancelled our visit to Burrs as Bury & Bolton are in local lockdown too.  Transferred the booking to Broadway....

David, I don’t think there are any travel restrictions in force in Bury. Well not yet, anyway. 🙂

No there aren't Pliers, it's OK at the moment... but I'd rather swap now than leave it until Sunday - don't want to be snookered last minute without a pitch within striking distance... 😉  ....and the weather is looking very slightly better a little further south for next week - although I don't think it's going to be brilliant anywhere.  😟

Saw something yesterday along the lines of the entire UK could be tested in 24 hours if we let Aldi checkout assistants run the testing centres

Pity they didn't have room for number 7. If they slip down, pull up immediately.

The new NHS Covid tracking app is available today. Unfortunately if you have an iPhone you need iOS 13.5 or later to download it.....mine only goes as far as iOS 10 frown

I view the App with a degree of scepticism, a few if and buts, not least having the phone and operating system for it to work🤔

    However......check this out......

But only on version 6.0 or newer (post 2015 I believe) so on my "ancient" android version 5 phone it won't work. The explanation given on the news was that "older" phones such as these do not have the appropriate technology, although there's no problem with the blue tooth on mine! frown

Apple issued their own app a while ago as part of an update to the operating system on my phone but when setting it up it stated the UK government had not signed up to the system therefore it was unavailable.

I checked it this morning after learning the NHS app was now available and it is now functioning. I’m not sure if it is integrated somehow with the NHS app, but I haven’t downloaded the NHS version and I’ll be sticking with the Apple system.

I think you will find that the App released today is the Apple/Google one that the Government didn't use in the first place, so it could be the same as what you already have?  Originally they wanted more information than they are now getting which was a bit pointless as it never worked!!!

We have a training centre for medical dogs near to us in Milton Keynes and I am sure they mentioned they were going to train dogs to identify COVID. The accuracy is impressive with things like prostate cancer. I think the problem would be is being able to train enough dogs to make a big difference. Perhaps they could be used in specific circumstances like airports and perhaps Care Homes?

It's amazing what dogs can sense. Our own late dog could always tell if anyone wasn't well, not just immediate family members. An elderly aunt had very thin skin which split very easily due to steroids. Instead of being a bit boisterous when she met her (her usual excited greeting), Bess would just go and sit alongside my aunt very placidly. We hadn't taught her this.

Perhaps an equally useful job for the dogs would be to harass people who don't think that Covid rules apply to them.
