Good system in place however we only use our own facilities.  Warden got a bit upset with us when I returned the bands the day before we left as we had no use for them?

One CL increased its prices by £2 a night, but closed their toilet facilities which seemed a bit unfair considering you paid the extra.  Didn't bother us that the toilet were closed, but we objected to paying the extra especially as we had booked before it went up by the £2 per night.

Did you argue the point, Surfer? Surely the price agreed on booking should be the price you have to pay. I'd name and shame if were me.

TBH I could not be bothered with arguing and by that time it was only a few days before we were using the site however we will not be using that site again.  The bollard kept tripping although we had the load monitor in the caravan set to 10amp.  They tried to blame us, but we had no issue on the two sites previous and the next CL. Just to add there was the identical caravan and same year next to us and they also had issue.

It is a fairly nice convenient CL although it is a back garden converted to a CL.  The owner was nice enough but after I complained about the bollard tripping, he was no where to be seen.

JVB66 maybe saying the warden was upset was a bit strong, but he was annoyed.  We thought we were doing them a favour as we were leaving the next morning at 8am.

Overall on all the sites including one commercial we visited between 5th July and 26th July we were impressed with the way things were handled and have no complaints in that area.  Pity some pubs serving food did not follow suit and take the customer's well being into account!.

We have been to two CMC sites since the lockdown was eased.

Henley & Buxton, both times I tried to ring to book in and pay via the phone but at Henley was told my call would not be answered or returned if there were people waiting to go into reception, at Buxton I called en-route and left a message but got no call back then when we arrived we waited for 40 minutes but again had to go into the reception to book in

This is not what has been advertised by the club and is not a nice experience for someone like me who is very nervous to be inside and having to touch anything like door handles, credit card machine

At Henley they had a brilliant system for the rubber arm banks with Milton solution to ensure they were always sterile.  When I asked at Buxton about cleaning them when they had been left out on the hook I got told it was my responsibility to keep them clean?  We saw several people going into the ladies without using the hand sanitizer.

We are going to a private site this weekend so will be keen to see how their systems change

    Dawn

I could be wrong but I thought the prepayment was for sites when they first reopened, I didn't think it was an ongoing procedure? One exception is Black Horse Farm where you have to pay in advance for a one night ferry pitch. When we arrived at this site yesterday we gave our membership card to the warden and were told to go find a pitch and come back latter to settle up. The doors to reception were pinned back so no need to handle anything other than a payment card. Obviously varies a bit from site to site?

The C&CC take payment on the morning of the day you are due to  arrive, the reception is closed and the staff greet you on arrival at the entrance to the site. If for any reason the staff are not present there is a mobile number to call.

We have been to 3 of their sites so far since lockdown has eased. 1 was none facility, hand sanitisers at every tap etc. The 2 facility sites 1 had hand sanitisers at the doors into the toilets/showers and at water taps etc. The last site Culzean castle only had sanitisers at the taps nothing at the facilities block.

We have used 3 CL's, 2 had sanitisers at the water points and bins, 1 CL had water at each pitch and asked you to observe the advice posted around the site, the owner did come round several times a day and sanitiser the bin and CEP.

I found the C&CC check in much easier, direct debit for payment, stay in van and wait till the site manager asked where we'd like to pitch etc. At the CAMC site I had to join a queue outside reception and then call out my card number from the doorway (not something I expected to do!)  Then a return visit to pick up bands etc., I presume sites are running things differently? But C&CC was virtually contactless.

This is how one commercial site did it last week. I received the following instructions 3 days before arrival.

    - Test & Trace - Please send all your contact detail and duration of your stay to xxxxxxxxxx. This Is part of the government guidelines and is very important we have this information.
    - Payments – If you have an outstanding balance with us, please ensure you give us a call before you arrive to pay this – this helps to reduce the contact with the office.
    - Check in – Your welcome pack will be on the check in board outside the office. This will have the pitch number and a map so you are able to find your pitch and get settled in.

My pitch was allocated but I could have reserved a specific pitch if so required but no knowing the site I left this option open.

Throughout my stay I never had any contact with site staff or had any need to. There was no control on use of facilities of which all were not open so as to maintain solcial distancing and hand sanitiser was available at the entrance to all facilities but not at the water and grey waste disposal points of which there were two. One being a drive over point for motorhomes and the other for a small number of tents. Three quarters of the pitches were serviced and it appeared as if the facilities other than the elsan point and rubbish bins were little used.

I only used the motorhome service point on arrival and departure, the elsan and rubbish bins although I did take a peak inside the gents.

Just been for a newspaper 3 miles to shop. Exceptionally busy. 4 Motorhomes wilding in laybys on way. Most local tourists sites are closed, only statics in use. Many are also moving from tourists' to statics thus reducing spaces. If you have not got a booked place you are unlikely to find one.

Having just spent a few lovely days at the Dulverton site in my campervan. I would like to gauge opinion on what I know is a thorny issue.  The site has done a good job of implementing a scheme that involves only two people being in the toilet block at once, a sensible measure in my view.

The issue is why do so many people insist in arriving at the shower fully dressed, then undress, shower and dress again including brushing hair, applying deodorant etc before leaving the building?  As we now have these necessary restrictions in place this behaviour does cause a considerable wait outside, and whilst the weather is good, later in the year this will be pretty unpleasant.

Might I suggest that whilst you may not wish to use your caravan or motorhomes facilities you do have the ability to dress, apply deodorant, comb hair, brush teeth etc in the comfort of your own space therefore reducing waiting times for others.  I own a campervan without a shower or toilet, but I am able to go to the shower in a dressing gown/toweling robe and return to it to dress etc in perfect privacy in the minimum time possible.

Later in the year when the weather is rough we should go to and from the shower block in a dressing gown?

As Jill said, we each choose our way and, while I'd not deliberately set out to hinder others, I also have to do what's right for me.

I might suggest that an umbrella or coat might help, but being stood outside for 15 minutes whilst someone gets dressed when they could do it in their caravan/motorhome seems thoughtless under these circumstances.

A coat and nothing underneath in winter is still silly.

15 mins to get dressed is only your guess as you're waiting outside and not party to what's going on.

I try hard to be thoughtful and not inconvenience others but I will do what is right for me. That is why I always try to use the facilities at less popular times of day.

You didn't say it as your own thoughts, Jill, but suggested in the other thread that personal choice would come into it.

Sorry, I could have worded it better.

I do understand, however I was making a comment regarding the situation I had encountered over the last week, with the temperatures were in the high 20s with wall to wall sunshine, and the site was full.  I am sure that later in the year it may not be such an issue.

I was appealing to the club members sense of reasonable understanding and acceptance that, during these times, a small adjustment to ones behaviour for the benefit of everyone would be reasonable.  Ho hum

I do my best to be reasonable, T&I. We all need to compromise and be tolerant in these times.

PS. It was you who made the point that waiting outside would be unpleasant in less clement weather. I merely expanded on that.

Coat over your dressing gown maybe?

We will be using our own facilities, for our own peace of mind, and to leave  site ones for those who need them, but a reminder that there may be a queue outside might encourage users not to linger.

When we do use site facilities, we always adopt the undressing/dressing in the van method, so much quicker and easier than trying to do it in a shower cubicle.

We have been to 3 facility sites so far since lockdown eased.

I never saw anyone at anytime queue to use the facilities, even though they had reduced occupancy and there were many tent's on the sites.

I have never and never will, walk around a campsite in my bathrobe. It's personal choice but it won't happen, not here.

If for any reason I came across a queue at the facilities I would either return to the van to shower or go and have a cuppa and return to the block later to shower.

I do think about making it simple to get undressed/dressed but going in a bathrobe NO way.

I feel that I look somewhat more 'decent' wearing my robe than some of the wrinkly blokes with skimpy flimsy shorts. tongue-out

Personal choice but for me a bathrobe is something you wear indoors not walking about a campsite.

When abroad and in very warm weather I tend to wear a beach dress to go to the showers.

Campsites tend to remind me of the old guest houses with people queuing in their "night attire" for the only bathroom before breakfast...so I won't be in the queue, one less for everyone. wink

However people without onboard facilities probably could do with a bit of fast tracking at the facilities but asking people to wear less seems a bit whacky...like one of those party games where you put more on or take something off if, well...the mind boggles. laughing

I did notice queues when away as on both occasions we were near facilities and the queues were in the mornings. A question of timing not dress codes?

As Site managers(wardens) have said in the past when members complained about "lack of enough showers?" why?there are many quieter times  ,as they are open 24/7 except when they are being cleanedsurprised
