Caravan sites opening and safety measures feedback
It would be great to have feedback on the caravan sites and how the safety measures are working. We will be watching for the next two weeks to see how safe the sites are before we decide to start touring again. Maybe a lot of people will put reviews on individual caravan sites.

Its the members staying on the sites that will determine how safe the sites are i.e. whether they maintain social distance etc. I hope people do follow the guidelines as its the only way we will be able to return to not just a normal life but an enjoyable one!

OH was on a caravan site in Somerset today (Southfork, a nice stop off from the A303) he was visiting in connection with nearby fishing permits. The owners have made great efforts but everything depends on the way people behave, a worry for all site owners.

Good point, Tigi, it’s the people on site who will be the determining factor. The club can put all manner of safety precautions in place but, if members don't act responsibly, it could all count tor nothing.
We each need to take responsibility for ourselves and with due regard for those around us while hoping they do the same. The people on site can change daily so it’s perfectly possible for safety levels to change with them.
I'm staying home.

There could be potential for minor outbreaks of friction: delays and queuing at washing up, waste and toilet emptying; passing too close to pitches; waiting to arrive/depart, and other unforeseen casus belli!
Pent up frustration may be unleashed amongst the otherwise peaceful members of our club. Surely not!

I just hope that all those that have opted to use a CL for the first time are fair to the owners, and not expecting what they might get on a Club Site.

I'll be on here with some feedback as the week goes on. I guess it's going to be a good while before folks get used to things. For example, we have a 50% reduction in shared facilities to allow for social distancing and the extra cleaning regime in place so there will be queues, no shop, a one in one out at reception to name a few.
Some things don't change though, there's 2 outfits outside the gate now (6.15) Happy Days

Who turns up to a site at around 6am??? I could never be a warden. If I were, the barrier would be left down until the opening hour and under the new regime of allocating pitches, the 'early birds' would be allocated the worst pitches on site. It may then deter them from doing it again. No doubt they want to be the first to post on social media..."All set up at.....feet up, bar-b on, ale following.....it's only 8.25am"

Hi JK, And sadly that seems to include the weather. Having had wall to wall sunshine for much of the time since March its now looking more like 'holiday weather' for all todays arrivals.
Will be interesting to hear their reasons/excuses but maybe it was the pubs opening at 0600?!!

Let's be honest here, with today's technology and smartphones, everyone has access to an app which will tell them their arrival time - even the law breakers
But, as you say, we can all make miscalculations.

While I agree (again) with you that it is impossible to calculate journey times to some degree of accuracy sometimes, especially as you do touring abroad, but this is the UK, and indeed England (have they come from Scotland?) with smaller distances and google maps/GPS and arriving after 6 am is really taking the 'biscuit'?
It means they left during the previous evening or very early morning implying a conscious decision to do that, and arriving at least six hours early really cannot be excused as miscalculating the journey times?

6hrs+, that’s a mighty big miscalculation🤷🏻♂️. I tend to be later using a satnav, it’ll say 4hr journey but more often than not I meet Unexpected slow moving traffic.

Well did we really think that people would abide by the rules, my money is on it getting worse during the day, people arriving early and clashing with people who are on time, people arriving late and clashing with people who are either on time early or late, and if Jk lets them in they will be on social media bragging about how they got on site at 0700 hrs, so there will be some folk sat on the motorway with smoke coming out of every orifice, the joys, glad i am at home feet up newspaper & coffee at the ready.

Whilst turning up at circa 6 am is just plain rude, particularly as they had a verbally agreed arrival time, of at least 9am. I dont see how they broken any laws. It has been perfectly legal to take your caravan anywhere in the country for the last month, as long as you haven't spent the night in it. I'm not sure how some folk would be able to arrive by 9am if they didn't set off the night before.🤔

While the roads that people take when heading down to Cornwall are always very busy on Saturdays, Friday evening /nights are also busy with many planning their journey overnight due to a lack of traffic, allowing children to sleep, so avoiding the constant cries of 'are we there yet', and an arrival timed to get set up and settled.
When younger and travelling with babies/young children we often traveled overnight, as does our daughter now with her three adorable, but demanding children.
BBC news now showing reports from two Lake District campsites-The Quiet Site and Waterside Campsite- and the campers who arrived at 0600 and they are on the site!

There have been some interviewed on tv this morning already set up on a site ar pooly bridge in the lakes
The ones outside JKs site will have their arrival time slot so it will definitely be an "interesting" conversation if they are very early
Hillhead is/was always quite "busy?" on the LNA /and arrivals area at about the times JK posted

agree, but not sure about the "rude", some folk just think that rules are made to be broken and will continue to do so whatever the circumstances if they see fit and it benefits their cause, you see it all the time and not that i use club sites much, from what i have seen this type of attitude is very prevalant, and my guess is, it is about to get a whole lot worse during the present circumstances. Maybe i will take my newspaper and coffee and sit in caravan, relax and pretend i am away.

Ah, Hilton Services, a place I have been able to study many times as I have crawled past, usually heading North but now, the hold ups can be any time any place on our motorways.
And while this is relating to the UK can I also add any journey that involves the M25 and any routes toward the channel ports/tunnel.
I wonder if the arrival times have been changed due to the new site procedures?

We have to travel 120 miles West on mainly single carriageway roads before we turn North. The calculation is fairly simple mileage to destination say 250 miles divided by what I believe my average speed is likely to be i.e. 40 miles per hour = 6.5 hrs, not rocket science. If we stop for breakfast in the American diner on the A1 then add an hour. As Mrs One tows we share the driving
