Booking Fairness... Time for a Rethink??

Perhaps a more flexible approach to deposits might help. If booking within a month of arrival, then no deposit required. For those that wish to plan an itinerary for a tour well in advance then a non-returnable deposit could be payable. That might solve the speculative "book every weekend for a year in advance just in case" mindset.
Those planning a trip well in advance are less likely to cancel at the last minute than the "speculative weekenders".
Discuss.

You must think what you like but I can categorically state that you are wrong in regards to my own personal view. I have already explained the difference between anti and appreciating the current system.

Which does show how how much more popular and used sites are now ,
Although even now that is still possible when on a tour in the UK ,as we have at times done ,although as we have got older we like to know what and when we have a pitches already booked

Ditto...I have two bookings of 7 nights each at 'honeypot' sites, both of which are currently fully booked for these dates....however, due to the uncertainty of local facilities not being open etc.. I may cancel and choose to go elsewhere at much reduced site fees..
And as Metheven says "because I can".... I may cancel just before the allowed 72hrs because that is the system we have agreed to as members...

I have one booking which was made in full anticipation of taking it up but, if I'm not happy with the restraints in place on site or I generally don't feel safe in going, I will cancel it.
It's a site that is usually fully booked so a cancellation may well be welcomed by another of you on here.

Totally agree. I have £125 worth that I told the C&CC and another independent site to transfer to next year. However, I much prefer the CAMC way of doing things. It is, to me, one of there main selling points. Nobody else that I know of does it. Why would they want to change it.? I don't think it would result in more site nights sold. More likely less.🤔

I imagine that the ones pressing for change, particularly as far as deposits are concerned, feel that they would be advantaged in some way by the change? Regardless of the fact that many of us would feel the opposite!!! As one of my old bosses used to say you can have equality of opportunity or equality of misery! Whilst I could live with a deposit system I just feel that we have a really good flexible system that probably suits the majority of members. I wouldn't even suggest tweaking unless the Club came up with some compelling evidence that things need to change.
In a contrary sort of way we are currently living with a deposit system because of all those members who have invested in site vouchersThe Club have probably ended up with more advance payment than any deposit system!!!!

Maybe it's something the club could consider doing more often like a January sale - providing they don't change the T&Cs after the launch!

Well, thankyou. It is the truth after all. 👍🏻

I've made two short back to back bookings in late July with each club on smallish local rural sites. At present all I want to know is, will we get there, what will it be like and will we feel ok about the experience. Fairness and different booking systems have gone on the back burner!

But you did the same earlier on page 21 Dave, remember this from your good self?
Plus they have done the people who have missed out on a booking a favour. They have missed a wet weekend on the site1 -
Agree, we have decided to give touring a miss this year with the unknown of if the toilet block will be open, and even then will there be queues similar to supermarkets? Also of course the risk from using them is also a factor.
we've got two holiday cottages booked and a glamping cabin - on a club site of course

Hi
That may be different with the "new normal" JV

We are hoping to get away, up north, after the schools up here go back in August, so have booked 2 Club sites meantime, and will add 2 CLs once we know we can definitely go. Just a short 15 night trip. Have already amended the bookings twice, and may swap one of the Club sites for another CL.
Now trying to plan for September/October, going south, likely CCC sites and CLs, but will not book till we are sure we can go.
Will use our own facilities, as we usually do.

and neither have I, but we are not in normal times.

We once had a booking cancelled by the club for an Easter break at the Malvern Site due to excessive waterlogging of the site. I'm still waiting for my £10 deposit back! Some time in mid 1990s. Think I'll have to accept I'm not going to get it.

I agree with,( Posted on 16/06/2020 09:19 by ) MotorhomeLife on the subject of booking policies. with good reason and yes i do know people book "just in case". We try to go to a particular site every year as our family live close by who we do not see so often, only to find the site is fully booked,we check it on a regular basis, only to find a few days before we want to go there is vacancies, yes there will always be cancellations due to circumstances, but so many???,coincidence or what ??? i don't thinks so. ( by the way i am a pensioner i can go when i like !)
i also think that the excuse that the club did not have enough time to train new wardens ,for some of the sites that are closed for the rest of the year because of corvid 19 , is a poor one, the site i refer to opens in march, if the virus had not turned up how was the site to open.would they not already be training earlier ?
