Booking Fairness... Time for a Rethink??

I have often gone to book pitches on sites and found none to be available. I also realise that people also cancel their bookings for various reasons, therefore I keep checking on the website, almost daily to see if any pitches have become available. I was wondering if a system could be started whereby if the site was fully booked you could automatically be put on a reserve list and when you came to the top of the list for the dates you required you would automatically get those dates without having to check back almost every day. I know it sounds complicated but I am sure there is a booking system that could cope with it. It would work best if people cancelled their bookings as soon as they know they are not needed. I am sure there are reasons why this couldn't be done and am also sure that there are persons on the forum who will tell me why.

absolutely, my single and most profound complaint about this club, i work long hours and my wife works in the NHS, we've had no time off since the lockdown and due to work restrictions cannot book far in advance, it means most sites are 'out of our reach' by the self interest of people 'working the system'.

Yes, I realise that, but in the past, I have found dates that have become vacant which I had wanted but had previously been full, so it can work. It works better if you only want a couple of days, and I'm almost certain that I have missed some days which have become available but I haven't checked at the right time.

If I was bothered Corners I would have left the Club years ago, as it is if there is nothing available I am quite happy to look elsewhere.
I wasn't giving sensible suggestions to anyone what I wrote I was putting forward a few sensible points after all this is a discussion is it not? Its perfectly normal to discuss points of view in a discussion, mine just don't happen to agree with everyones and it would seem yours in particular.

Indeed it is a discussion but at least get your facts correct to base your suggestions or points of view on, ie passing off as facts £10 deposits where none ever existed (and remember claiming that one club site charged for EHU when it was not a club site) and now claiming that deposits will affect things (like long term bookings) when you have no data or basis to base that on?
And you just seem far too passionate about having these changes, I suspect you want to use club sites but are upset when you can't get on and so try and change the system to suit you, or at least that is the way it comes across.
I am all for suggestions but take more heed if one actually believes in them? You claim you are not bothered yet post time and time again for changes? As I said it does not make sense?

We have been members of C&CC for 47 yrs , and yes they do allocate a pitch but if we haven't been happy, we have always been given an alternative, so it has never been an issue for us when using their sites. We joined the CAMC 20 years ago for the CL network.
As for the weekend booked up problem, we stayed at Poolsbrook last year in July and liked it so much we asked if we could stay on a few more days through the weekend. The manager said they were fully booked but not to worry, because come Thursday the weekend cancellations will come in. Sure enough we were able to extend our stay. Dont know if this is the norm.

Corners, just one example of what I was talking about, and there have been others too.
I'll say no more on the matter.0 -

You seem very sure about that CS? I remember the deposit increasing from £5 to £10 so am I dreaming?

I don’t think anyone here is anti deposit. Instead, we appreciate the freedom and ease of booking without deposits. There is a difference and we probably all cough up deposits from time to time as need dictates.

the picture I posted that showed a £5 deposit was from the site handbook from 1999, and they were removed within two or three years after that? I can't remember any £10 and neither can others who have posted but you may be correct.

Nothing to do with being anti, just they do not achieve anything and no shows went down when they were removed, so what is the point?

Quote from an earlier post by JVB - "The later £10 pound deposit was introduced as a "deterent" but when the online system was introduced ,it was not at the time thought a viable proposition to keep taking deposits, which at the time some thought was wrong ,but seems to most , to have been working so far with memmbers and site staff"
So at least another member can recall when the club used to take a £10 deposit.

Ok, I stand corrected. I can't remember it, must not have been touring in that very short time it was in use

Having read most of the posts on this thread, it appears that quite a few members are happy with the principle of first come first served with bookings even if they are not going to be required because it is in the rules. A bit like the toilet roll saga at the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak. I thought that was a bit silly as well.

Neither can I, although we were touring then we may not have been using club sites, just CL's and rallies.

The £10 deposit was not in place for that long. The Club increased it because the £5 deposit wasn't doing it's job as people were not turning up and not informing the site as they were prepared to accept the loss. Increasing it to £10 was to try and change that situation. In the meantime the Club had started to introduce the online system. But as I mentioned earlier there were difficulties between accepting the payment at HQ and transferring it to the site as the systems were different and result deposits were abandoned. Since then I am sure systems have been improved and I am sure could incorporate any future system featuring deposits.

At least get your facts right CS, especially when you are raising a topic nothing to do with the discussion. You’re post just goes to show how unwilling you are to accept other points of view.
Passionate is too strong a word. I have already stated I am not bothered by the current system you obviously cannot accept that. It certainly does not prevent me going away when I like to where I want. I just happen to believe the booking system is too open to abuse. The only effect it has had on me is I have not been able to use the Club’s sites as much as I could but that is no great loss when there are other choices around.
