Corona Virus Concerns

Yes, and that is what happened on the BLM marches, violent protesters in the face of our police force in clear violation of the coronavirus restrictions, and what a great pity, because the pictures flashing round the world just now are of just that, not of the many thousands of peaceful demonstrators, which i still am not in favour of in view of the current epedemic, but it is our right to peacefully demonstrate and to stop them as they tried to do in Australia, but failed, would have probably resulted in more acts of violence. At least we have not seen the looting of stores as witnessed in America, any excuse to get a free TV.

Listening to Matt Hancock on Andrew Marr this morning, he still cannot accept that it was a mistake not to lockdown earlier. He keeps saying he was following the science, which is probably true, but even some of the scientists who gave that advice at the time, admit it was too late. Why on earth can politicians never admit they were wrong.

+1, I'm just catching up and cannot believe what some have posted.

Agree with the violence statement Ruffs, no excuse. But my comment was aimed at your wanting tanks on the street. This has never been used against our countries people and anyone who would want it is indeed a headcase. I'm afraid you'll have to go alone.

Why not really, or perhaps up to a point, are you, or one, really free to express any sentiment or opinion? Can one be racist just because that is one's opinion for example?
But I wasn't referring to that at all, and if you carefully read what I replied to, which was:
Well, I'm truly shocked to discover the vindictive, violent way some of my fellow club members think
As you may now see I was referring to the vindictive and violent way in which some club members think that unacceptable and unlawful behaviour should be dealt with, whatever means necessary, tanks, is that really the right way to deal with such people, shouldn't our law enforcement be better than that. I do not want to live in country where that happens.

Rufs, sorry, but I just cannot fathom what it is that you are saying.

Perhaps a possible solution would have been to guide them to the nearest London park. Throw in some tents, set up some toilet facilities, provide them with food and water and tell them it was there home for the next 14 days. Of course after that time they would be required to clean up the park, before being allowed home.

I fear deeply for our country, let alone America, they walk amongst us indeed.😢

I think we can agree these demonstrations should never have happened where all social distancing and meetings of more than the number specified were grossly exceeded, it makes the Dominic Cummings affair and public outcry pale in significance along with some hypocrisy.
Those that took part had an issue that they rightly stood for, but they also broke guidelines and only the near future will tell what the outcome from that might be. Unfortunately with every mass demonstration there are those hell bent on causing violent disruption, but just imagine the amount of harm if we lived in a country that allowed the violent put down of those protests.
It was a very very difficult thing to control.
HD replied to the use of "Bullets, water cannon, grenades, mass gunning down" as a " Yes I do", how sad to have that viewpoint.

So you are saying above that you are perfectly happy with using the above?
A few moments ago you posted about having freedom of speech and opinion? Yet when Metheven does state his, you say it is criticism?

To answer the first question, then yes ,if no other means were successful
no problem with having an opinion, but don't just critazise without give an opinion, I'm not worried about stating my option , rather than sitting on the fence in case I upset someone, but so far nobody has said how they would deal with it
i don't post just to get "likes"

perhaps this would have been part of the answer
evening standard 15th march 2020
The army has put 20,000 troops on standby ready to be deployed to Britain’s streets, hospitals and other key sites to help tackle the coronavirus pandemic.
Around 10,000 troops are being held at "higher readiness" in case of a civil emergency and this figure will be doubled in the effort to support public services, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said
there would not have been any tanks, as the tank drivers were being taught how to drive specialised HGV's
thankfully a civil emergency never ensued, but we were ready.

If I needed to learn how to control such a situation, I would seek professional specialised training rather that take notice of those who employ guesswork and gut instinct.

No, being sensible and rational.
