and after looking at the news report re the BLM marches in Reading today, i think people have forgotten what corvid-19 is and the consequencies if you catch it.
Australia banned by law such marches, Matt Hancock tonight pleaded for common sense to prevail, sorry Matt falling on deaf ears, consult with Mr Trump and bring out the army

You need to jog on into Dorset Rufs. They are recruiting beach Marshall’s to keep things under control.

Like most would do I applied on line and checked via 111 where the symptoms registered as "request a test." I was given a code number, the same one every time I applied. Some times the web site said tests are available, some times not. The response was also "even if your application is accepted you may not get a test." I also tried to get a drive through centre test, the sites were a good distance from my home and I didn't feel well enough to travel at that point. I had a code to proceed but the web site suggests a home test if drive through tests are a long distance away.
So it's not a case of "why wouldn't they give you one" more that they appear to be unavailable. It is suggested you get a test within five days of symptoms. I've reached five days now, I'm avoiding contacts. The test wouldn't have cured me but I though it was a sensible idea to try and get one.
I have not been out anywhere near the general public so it's a mystery how I've got some sort of bug?!

You know that, I know that, Dorset might just be on a learning curve......👍

Edit. I have just watched a horrific video of policing in New York last night. A 75 year old white man pushed to the ground and falling backwards. No idea how badly injured he is, but the police officer has been suspended. Even the police line stopped in horror at what happened. Simply dreadful. I do hope the man is ok. It’s on the Guardian website, but probably elsewhere as well.
What I saw was the guy lying on the ground, after being shove by the policeman, and he was bleeding from the head, as you could see the blood pooling. The front few lines of police didn't in fact stop but walked past him towards an other protester, and it wasn't until a guy in combat uniform came up that anyone stopped to examine the poor old guy.

Latest news here is that those of us in the vulnerable/shielding category have to remain isolated until August 18th, We will retain priority supermarket slots and are expected to get neighbours to collect prescriptions etc. Reading some of the above comments perhaps its a good thing. I know every blade of grass on my holding.

You clearly have not watched the programme but taken your news from the Sun which itself is hardly an independent source of reliable News!!!

Interestingly i did watch the programme, and thought the Sun and the Daily Mail reported quite accurately what was said, the headlines read
"She's at is again! Maitlis Sparks new outcry over Newsnight Bias"
she was in fact trying to take BJ to task re excess deaths from the virus, which was in reference to what BJ said at PMQ's earlier in the day/.

Its not just Marshals on the beach, after the terrible behaviour of those that visited the Dorset coast last weekend the council for Purbeck have 'advised' the estate of Lulworth to get their act together, allowing visitors down closed roads (roads were closed by the council for safety)because your car parks are open is not good enough.
You will have to book a slot online to visit Lulworth or Durdle Door, I think this will be for a parking space, in advance not having a booking will mean being turned away, cars parked illegally Will be towed and the highway act enforced by the police. (why didn't they do that in the first place?). other small beaches along the Jurrasic coast have been tightly controlled by road closures and ticketing anyway.
The military do not do policing it will be a sad and dangerous day if it came to that, support of national effort and services working in the background etc. brilliant ……….......Frontline policing NEVER

B2 wrote "Hopefully churches, let's face it these days social distancing should be easiest there 😉 in large churches with miniscule congregations."
Trickier when you have large congregations and smallish churches. We normally have three services on a Sunday morning with varying degrees of congestion. A couple of online services isn't quite the same though.

I wonder how many lives will be lost to covid19 as a result of the mass gatherings that we are witnessing across the country today. I find it very ironic that these protesters are marching carrying banners stating black lives matter and at the same time putting so many lives at risk.

Yes, having seen pictures on the news of these gatherings, I wondered whether these past 2-3 months have been a waste of time, trying to contain the virus. Apparently there were around 15000 protesters in Manchester, Piccadilly Gardens. The Northwest's R rate is now just above 1. Are we going to see a regional lockdown?

Not seen the news, or read other than headlines.
Have to agree InaD we may have been confined to barracks for weeks, day 80 here, for any benefits to have been lost with the easing causing madness at the beaches and beauty spots and now the protests 😢😢. I don't just fear regional lockdown I fear national, well England at least, again. I caught a bit about Blackpool requesting no visitors as their R remains over 1 🤐. No idea what will happen to the economy if it does.
Daughter in NZ reckons they'll be level 1 come Tuesday she said they had been 14 days with no new cases and last infected person recovered. So jealous, but so relieved that they should be safe 😀

Can only hope that because the protests were outside, the infection rate might not be as high as in indoor meetings .
Just wonder if our government are quite happy to allow these large gatherings to take place, in order to go back to plan A, “ herd immunity “ , through the back door.
Hope not.

Herd of lemmings IMHO. The recent statistics haven't been particularly encouraging with only minimal progress being made. This is likely to set us back considerably.

Yup, and all because this time, of a man called George Floyd, who should not have died the way he did, but the guy was a carreer criminal, and now because of the protests, with no social distancing, we will probably have an upsurge in covid-19 cases particularly within the BAME group, and when that happens, we all know what happens.

The country which is normally quoted when discussing herd immunity is Sweden. Architect of their "herd immunity" model is epidemiologist Anders Tegnell who has now said that in hindsight, the best strategy might have been " Something between what Sweden has done and what the rest of the world has done." I believe that the government may well be following that type of strategy in bringing us out of lockdown gradually, ( what some people suggest is too early). I certainly don't believe that the government are happy to allow large gatherings to take place to follow "herd immunity". Sadly, I don't think they could have stopped them even if they had tried.

It proved yesterday that the chances of "controlling" of even banning the demonstrations would not work when especially London, it was a foregone conclusion, that it was going to turn into a them and us confrontation with those who were just there to course trouble knowing that in this country our police normally try the "conjoll" aproach rather than the heavy handed attitude as seen with the armed police in other countries

I think we call it "rent a mob' and when watching the 2200 hrs news i see a terrified horse bolting down Whitehall, then i sometimes think we should bring in the "heavy mob", yes it would be against our Human rights as a democratic country etc, but it may be the only way to control these protest and masses on the beaches, and get on top of this virus,
it wouldnt be the first time we have thrown a ring of steel around some of our more vunerable areas. If you go back 50 years you had to be 6ft+ and built like Henry Cooper to join the police force and you run the risk of getting a smack in your face, not a knife in your belly as is likely now.
