We have grandchildren like that.......only Heinz ketchup, beans and soup.....only Kellogs rice crispies. DD had them over one weekend a couple of years back and asked their dad what soup they liked best, apparently Heinz tomato, but she only had one tin of Heinz as they usually buy Aldi.
So she left the Heinz tin out in the kitchen in full view, opened the Aldi ones ahead of their arrival and disposed of them, they ate and enjoyed the soup.
She never did tell them they had been duped!

I think some children will have had the time of their lives to be honest Rocky. The good parents will have been doing all sorts with them, real life stuff, not just stuff designed to tick an Ofsted box. Downside of course is not being able to interact with friends.
As a child who always lost the last two weeks of my Infants and Junior schooling, because of my Dad’s holidays, I never felt deprived. Those two weeks were geography lessons, cooking lessons, reading lessons, nature lessons, history lessons, plenty of exercise. We had a ball.
One of our nieces is step mum to her partner’s little boy. He’s a nice child, but suffers from behavioural problems and anger issues. (There are no polite words really to describe his appalling mother) She handed him over full time at the outset of lockdown, didn’t want the hassle. After nearly 3 months of stability, lots of attention, good home schooling and some routines and careful discipline, the change in him is incredible. (We get videos, family all in touch) He’s calmer, more focussed, motivated, less prone to moods and anger outbursts. Sadly, at some point it will end for him, back to his old life. By his teenage years, he will be like Joffrey in GoT............☹️

We'll get shouted at for digressing 😏 but ... a while back we had our dinner out with our 4 yr grand daughter. A sachet of AN Other tomato sauce was eaten by her but later on had a rash on her cheek where the cheapo sauce ended up .... makes you wonder what the difference is between cheapo sauces & branded sauce.
Heinz makes HP beans .... but there's a difference in recipe.

Supposed to be going to Hillhead in July. Looks like pool and bistro will be closed. I have asked the club if premium fees for enhanced facilities like the pool will be reduced. Reply is that it’s wait and see which is a poor reaction. In the meantime if I want to change to another site they are all getting booked up. Hillhead is brilliant but now just for the view. The best pitches get snapped up by early arrival cheats. Club tell me wardens are hot on Midday rule. What a load of SPIN. Last July we watched the cheats turn up and allowed on as early as 9.30-10.

It is allowed, just pay the fine if given as some LEA's won't even issue a fine for up to two weeks. Anything over that would trigger an alarm bell somewhere either for a fine or non attendance follow up.
But I agree with you two weeks at the end of term or at a non critical time will do no damage what so ever.

I don't think you will find many teachers who have done very little work since lock down. Certainly at secondary work is still being set and checked for it being done and indeed marked, using whatever on line resources the school has ( Blackboard, Canvas, mymaths to name but a few...) heads and HoDs will have been checking to see this is being done and even if some children haven't been engaging there will evidence that teachers have tried fully to get them to engage.
Also as I've said there is no holidays for teachers in their contract.

sorry disagree, my daughter, teacher secondary school, has been on a roster for frontline workers children, she has attended school twice since lock down began, an attempt to introduce online tuition failed due to lack of interest/apathy, so for most of the time she has been working in a care home, voluntary. I think a similar scenario can be painted for most of the teachers in her particular school of 1500 pupils, no idea how many teachers, and no idea just how much effort was put into trying to get something up and running, but i see where you are coming from , my 3 Gkids have either attended school or done online tuition since lockdown commenced, horses for courses i guess.

It is not as easy as that to cancel the six weeks that kids have off and have teachers in schools.
A teacher's contract is to work for 195 days in a teaching year with 190 of those teaching, and they are only paid for those 195 days (no mention of holidays) but of course the pay for those 195 days is distributed each month but technically they are not 'employed' during the time when children are on holiday. Governors will usually agree what the dates of teaching year are the previous year.
Now as not one teacher has been furloughed they are still on contract and in work and they will have used up their 195 days towards the end of July. Their contractual duties will have been discharged if you want to think of it that way. If the government wants to have teachers teaching in late July and August then it will have to pay them.
And in fact saying that teachers must work when they are normally off is legally prohibited by the STPCD - the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document. Teachers could be asked but there must be remuneration or time off in lieu.

Not sure on the matter myself, my friend said before Easter they'd be working through holidays. I wasn't sure if that was key worker stuff or proper school.
I don't know of any teacher who's done little work 😱. Online teaching, standing at garden gates to chat to their pupils etc etc. Just the latter for 30 children is quite a task. Cousin was having zoom chats as well with anioxiuous pupils on top of other stuff. She said she sat at her computer 9am got up for lunch at noon and back to it until 4pm plus. Until she had a nasty stroke 3 weeks ago 😢, a great loss to her pupils I would expect without all the rest that's going on, and they're year 6.

Not sure what any of this stuff has to do with site prices, as I haven’t read the thread, but I may as well slide my 2 pennyworth in. Our grand children have been doing schoolwork for the whole of the lockdown period. There teachers have been there full time, helping, advising, marking etc. Children back in class full time now. Bravo to the the positive efforts of the headteacher, the staff and the children

Well what does that say about the school and the LEA? Assuming it is under the local authority. Worse if it's an academy 😱.
It's the kids that will be hurt, if it was apathy etc by students and parents that's even worse that no one is trying to help and support them 😢

I have been a little disappointed by the way things have gone with our daughter, who was expecting/expected to work from home full time, and our SIL who is a secondary English teacher.
They have a 2 year old to look after, his nursery is closed, but SIL expects his wife to bear the brunt of child care, despite the fact she earns about £6k more than him, and if she has to take time off the loss of income will be large.
He has continued to work, setting work for the pupils and marking it, plus one day every 2 weeks at the hub school for the children of key workers.
She however is having to use up all her holidays for this year by taking 2 days per week off to look after the wee lad while hubby works, plus making up time worked by working early mornings and Evenings.
She will have no time off left this year, while he will be off 6 weeks over summer.
Seems unfair to me!

Indeed, but according to what I have seen and heard reported, it seems widespread that the female partners are bearing the brunt of childcare, home schooling and housework, while still being expected to hang onto their jobs.
Fortunately she has an understanding employer who allows her to do the work when she can, rather than expecting a 9-5 working day, which is excellent considering that the ratio of male to female employees is 96:4 in her department.
It is the fact that SIL has assumed that his job should take priority that surprises me, he should be equally sharing the childcare etc. I think the fact he is looking for a promoted post has a lot to do with it.

There's no 'should' about it other than in your eyes. Give them the freedom to live their lives in the way they choose.
Now, price reductions on club sites? In our dreams, I reckon 😂
