Club Vouchers

The vouchers presented the CMC to have, in effect, a loan advance from participating members in return for a discount. Not a bad idea to help with cash flow I thought. By putting such a relatively short time constraint on them would dissuade me from even considering purchase. The proportion of time spent on CMC sites as against C&CC sites and others is variable and I would not wish to feel constrained to maintain my quota of CMC site nights in order to preserve the value of my investment over what is likely to be little more than a single season for many.

Not happy with the club now adding a expiry date. Will have to think hard if we are going to bother I think a backward step. Please reverse this silly move ASAP. I use the ferry booking service about 6 times a year and a few nights now and again on club sites but the summer prices are far to high for me. Go to France or in fact most of Europe and see what you pay never close to C&MC prices. This voucher was a help but with the expiry date !!!!

I've just ordered some. It seems like a fair offer to me. it will give the club some cash flow at the moment and my reward will be 20% discount. Apart from the £2:50 postage!!

I too Tony still think it’s a helpful discount ,and to ask a minimum £100 purchase is not unreasonable .If they are carrying an expiry date of the end of 2021 then to me that sounds easily doable and easily met by most. To start saying oh I will wait to see if the facilities are open or some other thing ,or I will not use the Club sites because of this or that ,to me that is being unreasonable to the Club.Surely if the Club choose to keep the facility’s closed it will be for the safety and well-being of its members and will only be short term.Or am I missing something.Just my opinion.

I would agree. Plus the fact that it wasn't made easily visible in the later promotional emails they sent out. Which you were unlikely to scrutinise in detail, if you had already looked at the offer. Fortunately OH did.😀
Plus of course the lack of logic. Why wouldn't they want you to hang onto them and use them in 2 or 3 years. They have your money for that period and by the time you used them, price rises would have taken care of the discount they gave you.🤔

Perhaps the mistake the Club made was not putting an expiry date on the original vouchers? I think there has been a lot of false outrage about the issue of vouchers. Who in their right mind would buy enough vouchers to last several years? As Steve suggests it would be a false economy because as prices increase each year the value of the discount would be diminished by the time they were used. From the club's point of view I would imagine they would be concern that the value of the vouchers sold would all go into this years accounts which might make what will be a poor financial year marginally better. However going forward they would have to honour vouchers which would, in effect, reduce their real income for the years in which the vouchers were used going forward. I am not suggesting the Club has dealt with the issue particularly well but I don't think it is as big an issue as some are making it out to be.

Goodness me, there's some sensitive sausages out there.
It seems to me that if you are regular Club Site members, this is a fantastic offer that suits both the Club and the member. If you think you are going to use Club sites in the coming 18 months, this is a wonderful saving. I have booked £600 for £500 and I am certainly not grumbling over a £2.50 postage and package charge. Why on earth would I?
And clearly, those ditching the club for a few months will be coming back to higher prices to cover the shortfall. No doubt they will have a little moan about that too.
Have a bit of perspective folks.

Thankyou but there’s nothing wrong with my perspective which is dosed with realism.
Please will you desist from being offensive to fellow members. Perhaps you’ve not read the guidelines/T&Cs which you’ve agreed to abide by.
Enjoy your stays on site.

I note your abrupt and curt response.
I made a positive comment about the excellent initiative. Perspective is perhaps relative. In my life, currently, a £2.50 postage charge on a £100 generous saving is way, way off the top of my concerns list.
I am sorry I touched a sensitive nerve.

If I saw something in a sale with a 20% reduction, I would either buy it because it was good value, or not buy it, because it wasn't. If it was an online sale, I would expect to pay delivery. If I didn't want to pay delivery, I wouldn't buy it.
If I did buy it and it then appeared not to be what I expected, I would send it back immediately and explain why.
Is it more complex than that? Really?
Clearly this is a business move that will create cash-flow for the Club and provide those members who wish to chance their arm a go at saving some money. I can see absolutely nothing wrong with that approach. I bought after the initial period and the terms and conditions were perfectly clear to me. I appreciate that some people will have skirted over the ts&cs having looked in previous days, but if I am spending hundreds of pounds on something, being a frugal Yorkshireman, I tend to double check these things.
Has anyone tried sending their vouchers back later than 14 days after receipt? What response did you get?
And how much is membership these days? Peanuts. I won't be cancelling anytime soon.

It has nothing to do with the, in my eyes, reasonable charge of £2.50 for courier delivery.
To call folk "sensitive sausages" and then state the following is not conducive to harmony.
"And clearly, those ditching the club for a few months will be coming back to higher prices to cover the shortfall. No doubt they will have a little moan about that too."
We are all entitled to our opinions and should be entitled to express them without being ridiculed.
There's no need to apologise to me as you have not touched a sensitive nerve. Your apology should be directed to the many people you may well have offended by name calling and insinuation.

I totally agree, no mention of the £2.50 postage charge, you order vouchers on the internet and they post them unbelievable, what a waste of money and resources what not send as e -vouchers, I went to order some but I’m not paying the postage. Get up to date caravan club and be open in your advertising.

If I have offended anyone with my comments, I apologise sincerely. Please let me know so I can put that right.
Tinwheeler - You point out in particular two things:
1. The delivery not being an issue in your eyes; Perhaps you would allow my point to stand in that some people on here quite clearly find that a problem, so much so that they would deny themselves the savings they could make?
2. Then, my comment that some will decry the inevitable price rises as a result of cancelled membership; I am sure you aren't pretending that this won't/hasn't already happened? Whilst it is an unwelcome proposition, it is a simple truth that it is likely to be most necessary. There are already people expressing their dissatisfaction at the prospect - far greater than the 'little moan' I gently described they were having.

Thank goodness for CT - my magazine came yesterday and I was thinking of investing in some vouchers - yet again CT has saved me some money! I may get a few but not the amount I had thought of investing since there is and expiry date!
Thank you OP for starting the thread

+1...Could easily have been an 'e' voucher. I currently have two from different companies..1) Brittany Ferries, a 2yr e voucher for deposit paid (my choice i could have had a refund)..2) A French campsite, for deposit paid, valid for 18 maths or a refund if not used within expiry date.
As I have said before, CaMC urgently requires some new blood at the head to bring the club into the 21st century.. eg..When was the last update placed on the web site ?...have there been any updates. ?
Months ago we told that anyone with a Red Pennant Annual Multi Trip policy taken out with a start date between 1Feb until 13 Mar 2020 would be contacted with details of deferment or a refund. After a brief call a couple of weeks ago to enquire re an update...I received an email yesterday as below...interestingly new words have now been included.." Extension and Freeze".. and of course extensive negotiations are still taking place....!!
Dear Mr .......
I would like to apologise for the delay in contacting you regarding your request for either a refund, extension, deferment or freeze of your current Red Pennant policy. We are still in discussion with the Underwriters, Astrenska, with regards to what exactly can be applied and aim to contact you with an update as soon as we are able. Please be assured that the Club are working hard to protect the interests of our members.
As soon as we have an agreement in place we will update you with the options available.
I have withheld the staff name..

I think it makes perfect sense to have a expiry date on these vouchers. With virtually three months of the peak season down the drain the club stand to lose a lot of money. Selling vouchers can help the cash flow this year but builds up financial problems in future years. For 2021, because with so many vouchers floating around the cash take will likely be down on a normal year. Not sure what the average peak season price is but for argument sake let's say £30 a voucher. In 3 years time that could be £40 a night and yet the Club still has to honour that undated voucher so even less cash flow. I think the Club accounts won't look very good over the next few years which will put pressure on prices and no doubt membership fees. The Club is not a philanthropic organisation, at the very least it needs to break even each year. Even at that it would be prevented from improving sites or buying new ones so I would suggest members take a slightly longer view.

The vouchers are not site night vouchers ,they are gift vouchers with a value that you have paid for so even if you use one £10 this year or in two years it is still only worth £10, the offer now is 20% extra if you spend £100 up to £2000

How can you say it makes perfect sense to have an expiry date on them ?. It makes perfect sense not to buy them with an expiry date on them as far as I am concerned and therefore will not. I hope and pray we are not in the same situation next year or following years .............but what if we are. They have a monetary value as KjeiiNN says, it is not a free night. Take the blinkers off, we are members, but not hopefully fools!.

I agree with EB, Kj and JV. If there was no expiry date, the club could be holding the upfront money longer and the voucher value would diminish in real terms in later years as site fees rise thus causing less cash flow issues than having them all used by 31.12.21. The scenario described by DK would be spot on for site night vouchers whose value would increase in real terms as site fees went up.

At best they can be seen a a bit of inflation-proofing, assuming site fees don't escalate beyond our wildest nightmares.
