👏👏 spot on Rocky. Two “probables” in my little family group. Hence why every action, visit, journey, activity is risk assessed before undertaken. One is very elderly but the other isn’t in touching distance of state pension yet, and looks far healthier than most. Hence our choice of negating risks will be a lot longer yet. 🙂

Meteven 24, No l don't disagree with everything, l said l would abide by what the government allows l was agreeing with what Nicks letter was saying as long as you keep social distancing their shouldn't be a problem and the club looking into how to manage the club sites when we are allowed to travel. Ask for reckless attitude l have abided by the lockdown since January when the wife and l had the symptoms of Covid19 and with me getting over cancer treatment it was my decision to lockdown from then, which meant l haven't seen my grandson for 6 months so your accustion l was being selfish l take issue with you. l stand by what l have said if local shops are allowed to open airlines allowed to carry holidaymakers and so on l believe campsites should be allowed to open from the beginning of July never said otherwise

The advice was necessary at the outset but not as a long term lifestyle. Why not insist all obese or BAME community isolate given their mortality rate? Why not ban drunks on a Friday night given how they clog up hospital A&E depts putting NHS staff and genuinely ill patients at risk? It is ethically and morally questionable to expect a significant part of the populace to hide away long term to enable others to go about their normal lives. i am at high risk due to meds which knacker my immunity system. I have spent over 40 years ‘at risk’ with immunosuppressant meds for Crohns and haven’t spent it in isolation. I dont intend starting now.

Agree with you totally flatcoat, there will be more suffering to come and not from Covid 19 but from the fallout as the world goes into a mammoth recession, the quicker we kickstart the economy the better The person talking the most sense through this is Little John of the mail

Because the age at which covid strikes the hardest and most fatally is amongst the over 65s and because hospitals can't cope with huge amounts of people in icu we're in a catch 22 situation that will only ease if we take it slowly. We haven't found ourselves lying on hospital corridor floors because, on the whole, the nation stuck to the lockdown principle. Thankfully we may now be turning a corner towards less restrictions and more people surviving.

We are still keen to go abroad once its 'safe' to do so. The quarantine period doesn't bother me as such but have they given any indication as to 'when' and where the quarantine period would start.

Given that if you arrive in this country by aeroplane you then have to make your way home to start quarantine. For some this might not be a great distance for others this could be a couple of hours away.

If you arrive by ferry then it could take you a couple of days to get home (it could us if arriving on the south coast) so would you be allowed to stay the night on a campsite (doubt it) if not then how could you 'safely' return home.

There are many questions to be answered regarding quarantine before we are happy to travel overseas. The biggest one is will you get insurance?

I'm waiting to find out if the rebooked ferry for September, booked on 10th.March, counts as a pre-pandemic declaration booking so cover will still apply, or not. I'm pretty sure that cover should still apply as no exclusion applied at that date but Insurers aren't sure. Pandemic declared on 12th.March.

Be also interesting to see when the Govt lift the advice not to travel abroad as this will affect any claims etc.

However it will probably be academic as I can't see us going then.

Michael O'Leary, the boss of Ryanair, has just been on the news giving his thoughts on quarantine. He accused the Government of making it up as they went along, harsh, but it does sometimes seem like that!!! However his more serious point was that for those that arrive at Heathrow they have to travel on public transport into Central London even before they can start their own lockdown so his view was that if they were infected when they landed there was a risk of infecting a lot more people en route to their own homes. I would have thought what we need is a test where you can get the results within a reasonably short period, say less than half an hour. That way only people who showed as positive would need to be isolated but others could go about their business as normal.

Greece is getting back to tourism and they are testing all arrivals but the turnaround is 24-48!hrs, so arrivals stay at a nearby hotel until results are known

Don't like that idea BB, with the number of flights coming into airports in any one day. If you are tested on day 1 what is the chance of getting infected while waiting to get the results. As we know from our own country that getting the results in 24/48 hrs can mean 7 -14 days.

DK a test that would give you a result in a few hours would be great but where are they going to hold all these people until the results are known. Again the number of people arriving at airports and ports each day, just doesn't seem workable to me.

If you then get a clear result, great off you go. What if you get a positive result and you are in say Portsmouth but live like we do in Scotland. At at  some point you would need to stop for fuel, possibly overnight depending on the time of day you arrive. Its more than the distance most folk like to travel in a day towing a caravan.

EDit, people arriving at Heathrow don't always end up on the train into London lots of us then change planes and fly to another airport. surprised

I got an email today from C&MC with a link to a survey similar to what the other club sent yesterday.  One thing i noticed was they stated that even if they had to open with the toilets and other areas closed they would still charge the same price.

I have to agree with the comment made by Michael  O leary  that 14 day isolation is a bit academic for those coming into Heathrow  at least,  as the majority would have used public transport after arrival to get to their destinations to start isolation

It's very cheering to see Greece managing the situation so well so far. I've felt very saddened by all the economic problems they've had. Greece was always my favourite holiday destination and we got married in Lindos  (at least I think we did, but as the ceremony was all in Greek who knows😂).

I haven't been since we got our caravan but definitely plan to return at some point in the next few years.

I dont disagree, but i watched a programme on the refugee camps in i think Lesbos and i could not understand how the virus had not spread like wild fire. I know the refugee camps are not of Greeces own making but it did seem quite strange as the squalor inside the camps was quite appaling,

i sometimes wonder if accurate reporting is carried out in some of these countries, or maybe it is just lots of vitimin D due to high sunshine levels that keeps the virus at bay, after all in the early stages of the pandemic it was sugested that high temperatures could see off the virus.

Maybe flying/sailing into any UK airport or port should be restricted to essential business only for 12 months until we get to grips with this thing , then we would not waste valuable time trying to work out how we would facilitate free movement and if we did we know it would not be 100 pct right so leaving us wide open to further outbreaks. Staycation for all would get my vote, not sure re OH she loves caravaning in Spainundecided

The Government are currently trialing a swab test that will give results in 20 minute but the problem is, as with any test, that it doesn’t pick up on ‘positives’ in the first few days.  No point giving people false reassurance that they are negative only for the symptoms to show a few days later.

If there was a test to prove a negative carrier I would certainly pay for that rather than 14 days quarantine. Understand that for a family would be very expensive though.  Also surely it would solve the problem of people not abiding by the quarantine and the issue of having to travel on public transport to their 14 day quarantine place too.  Hopefully they can come up with a cheaper test.

Maybe because the people living in the refugee camps spend most of their time outside they are less susceptible. The virus is known to spread far less in the open air.

So many unknowns at the moment.

I sometimes wonder if accurate reporting is carried out in some of these countries, or maybe it is just lots of vitamin D due to high sunshine levels that keeps the virus at bay, after all in the early stages of the pandemic it was suggested that high temperatures could see off the virus.

With vitamin D in order to maintain a sufficient amount in your body you have to have quite an exposure to sunlight. Although one would have thought that our hobby would put us nearer the top of the list. This is complicated by people with darker skins who tend to need even greater exposure to secure enough and could be the reason why so many from BAME backgrounds have seemed to have suffered more than people with fairer skin tones. There was an interesting study in Florida where you would imagine the residents got more than enough vitamin D from the natural sunlight. Surprisingly many had vitamin D deficiency which was surprising. One explanation was that regular showering using soap actually reduced the amount on the skin surface as vitamin D is taken in through the skin. There is also some evidence that in people who are obese the vitamin D gets hidden in the fat cells and as a result does not offer the protection it can in others. Check out Dr John Campbell's videos on YouTube.
