When the lockdown ends

I know Boris does not like to hear this but the lockdown is being pushed by economics,  I live on the edge of Manchester and can see a marked increase in traffic as more people go back to work. More shops and small buisineses have opened and even the bigger food takeaway chains are talking of opening all of them following strict guidelines.  Many shops etc have been open all along. Even talk of football matches being played.

The club should now be looking at the possibilities of how the sites can be run under strict guidelines.  There is not going to be a magic date when everything returns to normal as there will not be a normal as we used to know but a new normal of which all organisations such as CAMC should be prepared for.  If  any preparations are being made we should know about them and  be given a chance to comment and submit suggestion.  This is not what the club is used to but does what it wants and if it does not listen to its members it will see the membership numbers fall.

JUST LOOK AT THE MEMBERS COMMENTS AND FOR ONE PUT A COMMENT THERE WILL BE MANY WHO WILL THINK WHY BOTHER AND JUST NOT RENEW MEMBERSHIP.

I've seen a marked increase in traffic too. The other Sat on the way home from work I saw 2 cars in front of me on the M61, last week there were loads of cars on the road ... not a 'normal' amount, but certainly a lot more than when the lockdown started. But I can see why people want to get back to work if they're not getting paid as they were. I'm lucky in that nothing has changed work wise.

(I suspect you're not too far from me)

I’m not sure how the club is supposed to look at how sites can be run under strict guidelines when no one knows what regulations/guidelines the Govt might put in place or even when/if sites will be allowed to open.

Until all factors are known, I don’t see what the club can do and I’m not sure we have any right to know about them and to chip in with ideas as we are unlikely to be fully aware of regulatory criteria and not many members are experienced in site management. I'll leave it to the club to follow and implement whatever rules and regs the Govt might impose on businesses and the population as a whole.

Don't forget, the Govt ordered sites to close, along with other holiday businesses, and it’s not up to the club to open when it thinks fit.

The sites are all closed because of the lockdown it was part of the Governments requirements, therefore it isn't really a club decision to be made to reopen sites unless the Government allow it.

A question from a member of the public at todays briefing was about the potential of a large tidal wave of visitors heading for traditional destinations

PM's answer was that they would look at how this will be managed.

Don't expect Sites to open for a while yet.

As much as we may want to support campsites and the clubs, the last thing we want is to be unwelcome in the area's that we like to holiday.

I agree, sites are closed until the 30th of June, which is another 2 months yet.  Who knows what the situation will be by then, and who knows whether they will actually open on the 1st of July?  There is so much uncertainty about this virus, but one thing is known and that is there could be a second wave if we're too quick in easing lockdown.

Yes, that lady was from Cornwall and it was gratifying to hear that the PM recognises the potential problem and said arrangements will be contained in 'the plan' to prevent a dangerous influx.

I would have thought we all have our own ideas on how the sites could be opened. However, until any guidlines are announced by the government I don't see the club can do a lot. Personally I find it difficult to see how facilities blocks could be reopened, if social distancing is to be maintained. Many are not the most roomy of places, often with narrow entry ways. Most pot washes would have to operate one in one out, as would the laundry.

French citizens have already been told that from 11 th May they can travel freely up to 100  km from their homes. The indications are that their campsites will start to reopen with some restrictions soon after that, and presumably the 100km. travel limit  will apply for visitors to them.

That's a model which the UK government may choose to follow and if so independent UK sites may seize the opportunity and start to re open before Club sites do.

I spoke to a French camsite manager where we have a June booking. Its as clear as crystal that we will not be going there under any circumstances this year. The french Government has not declared what will happen to countries outside the Shengen area, nor has there been any mention about transport links from UK to France. The ferry companies are waiting for instructions from their government and they will be manouvering to recover some costs from somewhere.  At the moment the French border is closed and she couldnt say whether their Government have a date for opening and any additional rules. Also not declared is what facilities will remain closed. It seems swimming pools, bars and restaurants will not (Perhaps takeaway only). There is no hint what they will do about toilet/shower facilities for tourring pitches. They could open sites for the statics/cabins/sheds or whatever they are called. If any touring pitches are open the site managemnt doesnt have a clue about water and waste hygene regime. Policing or enforcement of the rules will be the responsibility of the site, and they may prefer not to participate in that game. The big issue is how do they control social distancing remembering that many sites are family orientated and may have more statics and less touring pitches which can be closed at lower comercial cost.

As we have now been advised that 17 sites are giving "refuge" to some members ,and according to posts from one of those sites the toilet/showers are open, what sort of social distancing is being applied to enable this?

There is not going to be a magic day whether this year or the next when the sites all open and things go back as they were.  When they do there will be restrictions  which will reduce the risk of infections  .which  is absolutely the right way to do it.  These will have an impact on the way we use the facilities  (If we can use some of the facilities).

The club management should be looking at what options are available.  The information  is out there as we have seen and heard on a daily basis.

This would certainly involve the absolutely fantastic site wardens and staff as they would be on the front line.  Any input from them should be taken serious.

Our reason for joining the club is to use our preferred outfits AND DO THIS SAFELY.This should be the sole focus of the club.  Additionally keep us informed and listen to suggestions.

So come on CAMC let see some proactive thoughts and keep us informed

    Cheers

    Hi

We have family live in france and communicate regular and they seem to have far more stringent conditions.  You are doing the right thing especially  after what we saw when the infection started and how it affected everyone, also the effects of Brexit have not surfaced yet.

    Cheers

    Hi

I would have thought that any communal facilities would be closed and have to use on board facilities.  However I hope it is working well for them.

We are  both in our late 60s and my wife is having medical treatment and both had letters putting us in quarantine  for 12 weeks and ad vised to use separate  bed rooms and separate bathrooms I wish.

    Cheers

I would think that social distancing is not a problem. No one will share a cubical and people can keep a distance in the main area given the limited number of people on site at the moment. As far as I understand it, if someone is not displaying symptoms then there is a low chance of transmission. Obviously if they have symptoms then they should be self isolating.

Apparently the social distancing is now being reviewed so it will be interesting to see if this is relaxed.

if those on a site have all isolated for 14 days, no-one has symptoms and theyve all been social distancing and no-one has been allowed on site, arent they all 'safe' nis what families of key workers were told in order to get them back to work...

...and this is exactly how new zealand has returned to normal after just four weeks....no outside visits unless quarantined, strict social distancing....

just 1400 cases and only 20 deaths.

that campsite might be a lot safer than walking down the street....undecided

Are they not leaving the sites to go to the shops?

If so then no they are not all safe, they will need to social distance but how does that work if using the facilities.

l have heard all the comments, if the Government decide that sites can open with restrictions then l assume the club will follow the directive, those that are afraid of still catching the virus then it's a no brainer stay at home. For myself and the wife who believe we contracted this in the middle of January, yes the middle of January dont tell me it wasn't here then it was, we had all the symptoms did not realise what it was then until the information came out. The wife an l really have been in lockdown since then as it took a good 4 weeks shake it off. We will travel to sites if they are allowed to open including private ones if the club decides not to. Sooner or later the country needs to get back to normal and their will be those that are still apprehensive about not coming out of lockdown its human nature to be cautious l am not one of those that travel abroad but l am afraid on the continent their will be resentment to none EC travellers which we will be one of, l really think that their will be no foreign travel until next spring, so hopefully more will be spent here

i assume New Zealanders still shopped with strict rules as we do?

H, why would you think there will be resentment to non EC travellers, if this is part of their Govts gradual return to tourism?

tourism is the only commercial element some places in Spain, for example, have to make a living....

if the lockdown there is gradual and controlled and that relaxation doesnt have an adverse effect on infection, then this must be the way that nations will slowly return to normal, wont it?

i agree that some folk will be slower to get back to things but equally some will be keen to get their businesses working again as soon as allowed and they feel its safe to do so.

by "hopefully more will be spent there" do you mean as compensation (in Spain etc?) to those relying on tourism should the lockdown be extended further?
