When the lockdown ends

As aN over 70, I don’t feel ready to make definitive plans for the remainder of this season. In order to facilitate booking a pitch at short notice, why not restrict them to ‘members only’ for the foreseeable future?

The C&CC are running a short member survey for opinions about the return to sites, mostly centred on the cleaning of facilities, if in use and future holiday plans, eg not going this season, already booked etc. Plus space for comments.
I think this is a good idea to include members thoughts centred on the covid crisis.

The vast majority are member only.
I've written off this year.

Evening
I think you'll find TW that the vast majority of our sites are open to all. Flick through your handbook and look at the top right corner of the pages, most state "non members welcome".

Cheers, JK. I’ll take your word for that although my impression was the opposite. 🤷🏻♂️
Isn't it the way of things though that very few non-members use club sites due to the extra £12 p/n pitch fee?

I rarely look at the book and it’s a pain 'flicking' through the website🤣

I have several handbooks JV.
I reckon that loaf of hovis will be a bit stale come July?

Sorry JK but the way the "club?" have handled the situation up to now has made for , it seems, very many frustrated members , with the complete inflexible methods that have been put in place ,and useing the Government "rules" as a get out for what should be many "work rounds" that would and could make for many more "on side" members

I am not sure the restriction would really achieve much especially as a non members have to pay an extra £10 a night so I would question how popular it is! Often the requirement to accept non members is part of the site lease so probably couldn't be overturned on by the Club. I suspect that many "non-members" that visit certain sites, like those in London, Cambridge, York and Edinburgh are from Europe so probably not travelling at the moment. Until the sites actually reopen we won't know whether there is a massive pent up demand or a more cautious approach particularly amongst those of us of a certain age?

Survey? What survey? (Yes, i an a member). However one aspect of the situation that i find concerning is the language used in respect of those who are advised to sheild (like me) or isolate due to age (my wife). It is advice only and not a legal requirement, it is NOT lockdown or ‘house arrest’. I appreciate everyone views risk differently but it alarms me how many older people seem content to isolate until there is no risk (impossible) or a vaccine (dont hold your breath on that). I would rather have active and memorable life in my days than boring lifeless days in my life. And before i have a repeat of the unfounded criticism i had on Swifttalk, i am NOT suggesting that i intend breaking the law or taking undue risk (i will not be flying this year but will be driving i to EUland for a hol as soon as legal). However as soon as it is legal to do so we will be off in our caravan.

Look on your emails from the C&CC for the survey which is part of an update letter.
Edit
Personally I'd wait and see the results of the latest stage of allowing more freedom of movement. The results will be two or three weeks down the line, let's hope we can see further progress.

Don't forget the other side of the coin, FC. Shielding and isolating are not just to protect the individuals but to help prevent overloading the NHS which would be the case if those vulnerable people became ill.
It's entirely up to the individual if he/she wants to play safe or take the risk.

In some ways I emphasise with what you say. However I think we need to see lots of things change before many will be comfortable exploring further than their own surroundings. What is the point of staying on a campsite when you are almost going to have to a bio security check as you check in! We have no idea what the regime will be with toilet blocks. When out and about there will be concerns about social distancing and equally concern about using public transport and cafes and restaurants. That is so far removed from the old normal who could blame people for thinking they are better off staying at home. If the same thing happens to campsite as has happened with people travelling to beaches around the countryside and they become jammed full I am not sure that is an something I want to experience? We will probably leave it to late summer before venturing out unless things improve in the meantime. As for touring abroad, good luck with that.

Absolutely agree. Had to go to the chemist yeasterday, left it until late. Town was deserted as I thought it might be, it did minimise the risk.
I am running out of materials to get DIY jobs done so ordered more by phone from the builders yard. Turns out very little risk to collecting it. Turned up at the gate early this morning, town still quiet, phoned the office, lady came and opened the gate and directed me to a drive in bay where what I ordered was waiting for me. Put it on the roof rack and drove home again. No real risk at all and I have my job for today and probably tomorrow.
I see there is an article on the BBC news web site about the likelyhood of an increased uptake of camping when the lockdown is eased further.

I said some weeks back, David, that the type of scenario you describe hardly makes for a relaxing break and it's looking as if that will become a reality.

Life itself is all about risk, and making choices. Some like to take up dangerous hobbies, some like to travel to dangerous places. I don’t have an issue with it to be honest, it’s an individual choice.
My issue comes when it affects others, those who have to put themselves into danger to rescue the unwise. Then there are the ones who decide as individuals that what they need comes before anything or anyone else. But are then puzzled when no one wants to rescue them when things go wrong. 🤷♀️

And when I have that at home it makes going away even less attractive.

The request to self isolate for the ‘shielded’ is because the ‘shielded’ are in the probable to die not possible. No health care professional wants to decide not to treat folk due to them being lost causes. Help for those who have a good chance of survival is best👍🏻. The ‘house arrest’ is to protect the NHS not the shielded. The Govt just chose to word it better than me.

For us anyway, the 14 day quarantine requirement on returning to the UK (if and when it's introduced) would be a major disincentive to venturing abroad at all. We have already postponed our September holiday in Greece to 2021 when, hopefully the situation will be much easier.

As I understand it though, the quarantine arrangements would be stricter than any of the recent lockdown arrangements, enforced by police spot checks and fines of up to £1000 for breaking it. However, it remains to be seen if, and for how long, it sees the light of day. I suspect it will be one of those measures brought in for a brief period to safe face and then, unsurprisingly, quietly dropped "on new scientific advice"!
