When the lockdown ends

Nice of Nick to have forgotten to write to the Health Reps of the devolved governments. Presumably he's expecting those "Assemblies" to just follow England. Yep, that worked well last time.
No point getting to number 2 on Rocky's chart as this type of behaviour is what I've come to expect from this"Club". Why change your spots?

Prof. Chris Whitty is the Chief Medical Adviser to the UK Government, so all nations covered.
0 -
Health is a devolved power, Prof. Whitty is CMO for England.each of the Nations has their own CMO. As regards camping and caravan sites, the planning, licensing and powers to reopen also lie with the Welsh , Scottish and NI Governments. This open letter from the Club, must be forwarded to them. Any changes to Covid 19 rules will only be taken by the Devolved Nations irrespective of what happens in England.

Any one party or devolved goverments ,have as most know ,be as obstructive as possible to try to normally advise their way is the best, way forward ,
But i must agree that the Nick letter should have been copied to all those involved and that includes members as well as other interested parties

You are correct Scoutman, he is the Chief Medical Officer for England. He is also the Chief Medical Adviser to the UK Government.
1 -
He may well be but the UK Government won't be making the decisions in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland so even if he happens to say "Yes great open the campsites" it will only have implications for England as in this respect Mr Johnson is PM for England. Of course he is wont to forget that some powers are devolved.
We have already seen people from the larger cities trying to access their Static caravans in North Wales following the lifting of travel restrictions in England. Never mind that they didn't understand that his address didn't say that sites were open anywhere.
If you are trying to get people in power on board for your suggestions it is best if you address ALL of the relevant personnel. Those Chief Medical Officers in the devolved powers are quite capable of making their own mistakes.

At last someone speaking some sense agree with everything Nick says, its about time the club lobbied for a return, hopefully July the 1st. Being locked up is not in the human nature it cause more stress the longer it goes on. Sooner or later people rebel so its imperative we come out of lockdown in a secure manner, what Nick says we as caravanners and motorhomes are better prepared to self isolate than in other areas of the travel industry, well done Nick for a great letter

I was out in the North Yorkshire Forest only the other day H, destressing👍🏻, you don’t need an LV to find an outlet for your stress.
it was quiet, beautiful & stressless. I was shocked to pass only 1 other vehicle in the time I was there.1 -
I see the NCC are urging site owners to lobby government to open site firstly to private owners followed by holiday makers but initailly without facilities.
See >here< and follow the links for further detail. Click on "Chancellor" to read the NCC's letter to Government

I know this may sound selfish, as we all want to get out in our vans as soon as the sites open again.
I like many others will be desperate to go and see relatives who have been put on the vulnerable list, For myself it is a 400 mile each way trip which is hard at the best of times which includes a stop over night on each trip,But juggling these journeys between work is a nightmare as i try to arrange a few days off between work locations, as lockdown eases and the sites open there will still a lot people on furlough and the sites will be full restricting access to some of us who have to book at the last minute
I emailed club sites team asking if there woukd be some kind of system to help members like me by using vunerable persons chi number but have had no reply
Just interested to hear your views on this issue
stay safe eveyone

I too see nothing much wrong with the letter
The thing that was/is wrong was that he did not think it would matter not adviseing members? of any thing the club were doing to allay the frustrations of many members it seems ,in respect of lack of anything the club were doing to help with the current situation

Think of those you may meet enroute not to mention the 'wisdom' of visiting vulnerable people!
Stay away, Munchkin, and wait for the Govt to allow reopening of sites.
You may not like my words but I think you are being unreasonable at this time in expecting special treatment. Many, many people are in similar situations but they think of others rather than themselves.
Whoops, the quote didn't work.

There are a couple of things with the shutdown of club sites
1 The fuel we filled up with in the car in Feb , before our last tow home is still showing three quarters of a tank
2 Its doing wonders for our Bank balance
Ps off thread a bit , had a call from some friends last night , adviseing they had contacted the club with ref to their membere out comeship that expires end of May ,to advise them they were not renewing until a later date
They have renewed and a site night voucher is on the way, as a thankyou (better than a three month extension)

In any case, PD, there's little point when we can only meet one person from another household outdoors.

It’s a none starter-guaranteed I’m afraid. The shielded folk are under house arrest until end of June. You considering travelling that distance to stare at them thru a window is crazy. To meet face to face could be a potential death sentence. The best you can do is wait that’s the way to prove you love them👍🏻. A lot of us are in your position. A lot more won’t be seeing a vulnerable relative ever again.

Tinwheeler totally disagree, if the government is looking to open shops, Easyjet resuming flights and other carriers early june, l can't see why Caravan sites cannot be accessed safely from early July, where's the difference, we are all responsible for keeping social distancing for and making sure we act in a responsible manner when on site and out in the community. For those that don't feel safe then stay in lockdown its decision for individuals to take.
1 -
Where have I said that the Govt is wrong in allowing sites to open (probably) from 4 July?
You seem to be missing the point entirely. It’s about acting responsibly towards others, not about sites opening. It’s about safeguarding the vulnerable, not about indulging our desires at the expense of others. It’s about being fair to all rather than being selfish.

Heethers, I'm afraid none of us can help you.
The government will eventually make a ruling on opening up tourism, and site owners of all types will decide when to follow that up. Pleading on here for re opening won't achieve anything.

Agree Pembrokeshire like Cornwall is a 'staycation' hotspot, both areas have had relatively low virus 'hits' so far, by locking down tight, the Health system is geared to the Winter population of mostly elderly residents NOT to a huge influx of possibly undiagnosed virus carriers. SO please wear mask when in enclosed areas and buildings and stay 2metres away from others, all the time.
Please be considerate to the residents, we want you to visit, but only when its safe,

if you are vulnerable or visiting someone who is then stay at home simples don't use it as a way of jumping the queue.
As for other comments I like many others are raring to get gong once the government says so and I do think sites open with no communal blocks to start with are the way to go to ensure SD rules. Pitches are 6m apart so should not be a problem on majority of sites/pitches and with no toilet blocks or washing up areas then little chance to spread infection if anyone is a carrier. If you do not want to use your own facilities then stay at home and wait till it is possible to open the site fully.

its not that i am going before lockdown ends. I work away and have only limited time to go and see my family who are vulnerable, the point i am trying to make is when the sites open I and many other members will have no chance of getting a pitch near our families as there will still be people on furlough and everyone just glad to get away from there front door

A cross many have to bear, Munchkin, and you are far from a unique case. You could try CLs when the time is right but do have due regard for the folk you want to visit. Staying away is for their good.
Incidentally, club site bookings are open now so you can book for July onwards then cancel later if it’s decided unwise to put your loved ones at risk.

i certainly would not put my mum and dad at risk as they are shielded and yes there are many members in the same position, I think maybe that's a visit I will leave until the rush for spaces is over and my work falls into a recognisable pattern

Wise move, Munchkin. 👍🏻
