France Info. is saying today that from May 11th French citizens may travel 100 km from their homes. So a start to ending lockdown for them.

And as JK were ushered out,but then the pandemic was just starting to hit , ,last time we came back through France they were stopping most of the UK reg L/Vs just beyond one of the payarges? and that was 5yrs ago,so as i said very much expect the French police to "enjoy" harrising any one entering from out side their borders,

There is a discussion going on in the EU Travel circles about who will be allowed to go where and having "Coronvirus Corridors" e.g.Germans allowed to travel to Croatia via Austria. The German Government has suggested Germans will not be allowed to travel to Spain this summer. The UK will be at the bottom of the pile in any permission to travel to the EU on holiday this year partly due to our later (not in my opinion too late) lock down and high number of infections.

So would I be right that you were on a coach trip with a bit of anecdotal help from the driver? I would imagine the many people on this forum with a vast experience of personal touring throughout Europe over the years with their caravan or motorhome would find your conclusion doesn't match their real experience. Even on the odd occasion we came across a police check point we have been waved through probably because of our UK plates. However perfectly legitimate for any European police force to stop someone for speeding (unlikely to be a caravan or a motorhome) as Jenson Button once found out to his cost.

Like any country they do occasionally have a little purge at the ports. I would imagine intelligence driven. When we came back from St Malo a few years ago the police were stopping and searching all vehicles. It was causing absolute chaos with queues stretching back into the town. This is the only time in all the years we have been going to France we have experienced this.

Pretty much our experience Steve, in fact the last time we were stopped in France was in 1980 on our way back to the UK from Germany on a UK posting.
Car was fully loaded big Peugeot 504 estate, roof rack on too, they usually stopped BFG (British Forces Germany) cars anyway, looking for extra 'duty frees'

We seemed to have wondered a little off topic, not unusual!
My experience of living in France for 10 yrs and travelling there for 50 yrs mirrors that of AD. I have only been stopped once and that was in the early 70's for speeding in a town (ouch - naughty). Other than that I once got trapped in a village towing and could proceed no further. The nice gendarmes cleared traffic behind me to allow me to reverse, stopped traffic to enable me to go the wrong way down a one way road and ushered me out of their town!! All very embarrassing. I have never seen any bias against UK vehicles.
On topic, like in UK, there is considerable pressure on the EU governments to ease the lockdown, get life back to normal and their economies going again. It will take time and must not be rushed. In the OP it was suggested that the sites in France may reopen 15 May, that is not going to happen. We cancelled our trip, due to start end of this month, some time ago and have earmarked a few weeks at the end of Aug for a trip but we are not optimistic. So this year we are going to see the garden in all it's June splendor

Call from the Club re booking for June Ferries and site. Camping fee refunded, pro temp agreed a deferment of ferry for two years, BF haven't updated their decisions after May 15 as yet.
Have to check in a couple of weeks to confirm ferry situation

Uk motorhomes aren't allowed into France yet but French Motorhome owners aren't waiting for campsites to reopen - they are out and on the road already after deconfinement started this week.
They are subject to the current 100km. travel limit from home and are finding some Aires already open, although many are still closed - but in that case they are simply parking overnight in all the usual places where French motorhomers spend the night.

not sure of the situation in France re public toilets being available etc, certainly in our area the local councils have taken the decision to keep car parks and public toilets closed, so to have MH's touring the area with casettes full of the unthinkable with no where to park and no where to dispose of these seems to me to be a nightmare scenario. I suppose if they are within 100km of home they could just go home, but in the UK just now we do not have a 100km restriction.

Today looked at Brittany Ferries crossings from Plymouth and, at the moment, they recommence on 15th June to France and 21st June to Spain.
