Yes but your insurance covered both of you. If there is no Covid19 insurance you would both be affected, if you were ill with the virus could your wife take the van home etc. The repatriation thing is the most troubling part of insurance which doesn't cover all eventualities.
That sounds gloomy I know, I hope none of us suffers in this way.

Well i admit to having a low appreciation of some MHers but i am sure you are not one of them, and you will always be welcome in LOS, however, what i object to is a situation we have right now in LOS where a group of so called full time MHers of no fixed abode arriving on our seashore the day before lock down was introduced and claiming they had no where to go, so the LC, probably for the best, decided that rather than move them on and risk the spread of covid, they could stay, and to avoid the illegal dumping of toilet waste have also given them a key to the disabled toilet.
Looking at some of the vans they are no more than transits with a mattress thrown in the back, but there are at least 2 Mh's which probably cost in access of £100K.
These people knew exactly what they were doing when they arrived, in that sites were closing and they needed somewhere FOC where they could hang out, the fact that the LC are now providing facilities that they are not paying for as they are most likely not paying local taxes, does annoy me along with many other locals.
I know we should not tar all MHers with the same brush, but these are free loaders, and they dont exactly endear people to MHer's who abide by the rules .
because 'round your way' they just lob it in the hedge, gutter, road etc??
Yes they do in some cases, and i am sure it is not unique to LOS
so you're 'shocked' that, in France a camper might pop in to an aire to make correct use of the waste facilities (albeit without paying)
Not shocked at all really, par for the course it would seem

I can understand (and have sympathy with) elements of your post...
i regularly cycle through Glastonbury and the immediate surrounding area and to describe certain parts as a 'sh*t hole' would be doing it a tremendous favour....
one part has 8/9 caravans (no tow vehicles ever in sight) just parked in a road and, as you say, portable toilets have been provided so as to avoid the obvious outcome..at our expense.
further out onto the levels there are perhaps 20 caravans (again no tow cars) and again multiple toilets and, due to being further out of town, large fresh water containers are dropped....for their convenience.
there are also several other areas where clusters (again mostly caravans) are sprouting up....and one permanent spot with its own lockable gate...
they probably pay no car tax, yet the caravans are on the road, no rates, so a similar set up to you but on a much larger scale...
still, they contribute greatly by buying all their booze at Aldi and the evidence is there for all to see.....all over the road..
anyway, back to the op and we do hope to get down that way when able.

as David says, moving forward will be a (changing?) period of risk assessment and impact management...
assessing the risk of contracting the virus might be X for two different parties but if the likely impact for one is a really serious illness (or worse) then that might determine that risk is too high...
for the other party it may be that they are young, fit, with no underlying health conditions and their assessment might be different.
the thing is, at the moment we dont know for sure that the virus will ALWAYS affect certain groups in certain ways....
anyway, ill almost certainly be pretty much alone on my bike on the moors later...but for some, even that 'simple pleasure' might entail too high a risk..
stay safe all..

This is the latest information I have which was posted two days ago on the website of the site we visit:
Press alert: foreign tourists will be welcome in French campsites in July and August 2020
The Fédération Nationale de l'Hôtellerie de Plein Air (FNHPA) would like to remind foreign press correspondents in France that foreign tourists will be welcome in France during the summer of 2020, subject to the opening of French borders as well as those of other European countries and to favourable health conditions. Contrary to misinterpretations that have already appeared in some European countries, the Interministerial Committee on Tourism convened by Prime Minister Edouard Philippe on 14 May 2020 was very clear on this point.
Likely reopening of intra-European borders at the end of June
The French Minister of the Interior, Christophe Castaner, announced on 7 May that restrictions on France's borders with countries in the European area (European Union, Schengen area, United Kingdom) will be "extended until at least 15 June". In addition, the fourteen measures "for any French or foreign person entering France," permitted by the bill extending the state of health emergency, "at this stage, given the evolution of the epidemic in Europe and in view of the alignment of health measures between European countries," will not be applied within the European area, "except overseas and, if we decide to do so, in Corsica.”
Foreign tourists welcome in France if health conditions allow it
The press kit of the Interministerial Committee for Tourism of 14 May but states (extract from page 10): "France welcomes the proposals made by the European Commission in its communications of 13 May on tourism and transport, to restore mobility and allow a gradual reopening of tourist destinations in Europe. France will play its full role in facilitating the harmonization of health measures for the reception of tourists and professionals, particularly in the hotel, café and restaurant sector and transport, as well as close cooperation in the evaluation of epidemiological situations. These measures, proposed by the committee, will play a key role in reopening certain regions of Europe to tourism as soon as the health situation permits. France will ensure that the health protocols validated today feed into this necessary European harmonisation effort. France reiterates its commitment to ensuring that no discrimination on the basis of nationality can take place when European tourist destinations are reopened. »Under these conditions, French campsites are looking forward to welcoming their European clients, sanitary conditions permitting.

We've received an upbeat email from camping Les Rives du Lac at Veynes. Their own translation reads:-
1. The campsite will open this summer and most likely from June 2nd. The government will take the decision on May 25th.
2. The French Government has now a strong wish to open all borders inside Schengen Area Latest Beg July. (Another communicaion from the minister of Economy confirms this).
3. No deposit is required for any new booking.
4. If you have booked an accommodation : please do not pay the balance now. I will contact you later on.
We are for sure expecting sanitary rules for campsites and restaurants. Nevertheless, We have already been working on different topics :- I am waiting now the agreement from the city mayor to extend the restaurant terrace to be able to welcome you, while respecting the distance rules.
- I have already ordered disinfectant gel and other sanitary products.
- The cleaning team will be bigger this summer.
- I am now negotiating with the inflated game (based on the lake) manager to be able to offer to your kids daily free entrance. (this will for sure over compensate eventual restrictions on the pool)
- Swimming pool opening times extended.
- Beside the bread service, I am working with farmers to offer veggies deliveries, to limit your shopping time.
Campsite sanitary are over sized (e.g. : We have 48 sinks, 28 showers, 28 toilets when 24,28 and 20 are normaly required), so we are confident to offer you a great service despite the additional rules. We are really lucky to be in a wild area (23 inhabitant/km2), and I will advise you on the best tracks, visits, so you are mostly alone !
Finally, a short video from pictures filmed just around the campsite, for the ones who like cycling, hiking...
See you soon !The video here !
Feel free to contact me for any further information,
Take care,

Many sites will be extending their season into late/end September. If you go via the tunnel and use your own facilities (shower, WC) you can almost completely self-isolate. Don’t think that will be enough to persuade OH though!

Even if we could salvage something in the early autumn, we are still held hostage by the Foreign Office advice.

The site I mentioned is opening 15th June and extending the season until 4th October. Not that it helps us at the moment but maybe a late trip and hope for an Indian summer.
