It's a shame you had to end your post with that sentence, BB, apparently trivialising alternative views to your own.
You and I, and probably everyone else here, have varying opinions on what ministers should do or might do or maybe even are capable of doing. It's a difficult situation for everyone, government included. But so long as no one is suggesting anything illegal, wouldn't it be nice to allow everyone to express their opinion without being patronised.

its a shame you apparently cant stop marking other people's homework, even after all this time
you continue try to make something out of nothing re my posts, reading in things that arent there....a figure of speech, no more.
however, if you watched the evening briefs regularly, you'd see the same questions (often immediately after the previous reported said exacrly the same...) over and over...'when are we there' is not a bad summation of many of them.
and, of course, with the same answers over and over....the message isnt changing....even for the 'adults' amongst us.
those five tests might not come to fruition in an organised, sequential, convenient way and there may be many combinations of 'improving statistics' within these tests that dont allow for any movement of restrictions...
no Govt is going to issue a 'what will happen in these particular circumstances' statement for every nuance of the figures as they might not be the exact ones that arrive together....it may be a very long time before all those 'planets' align.
im sorry but we are all going to have to wait...
so have a read of Nicola's version while weve got time...
even Ian Blackford on Vine suggested that, while this document had been put together, there was 'no way' there would be any change for a 'good while' yet.
in the meantime, we all know whats required.

I'm not sure my post warranted that lengthy reply BB, and even then you opened up with a sarcastic comment. Why not just allow the conversation on the thread to develop naturally? Why not allow folk to express their opinions? Isn't that what the forum is for?
As a matter of fact, I do watch the briefings every evening and, yes, we hear the same remarks trotted out over and over again from various ministers. But other governments seems able to give citizens some idea of the future without any need for specific promises.
So we either just accept them blindly, or question them and ask what the future plans might be.
As I've said repeatedly, it's just my view; please allow me the courtesy of expressing it (as I do you) without the rather childish "quips" which I'm sure you consider to be witty.

At present I don't think other places have handled it any better than the UK, scenes from Italian and Spanish hospitals were horrific with people lying on the floor. That's just two examples, no one has come up with a solution as it's such an unknown event. Ministers no doubt will be repeating things, what else can they do, we don't yet know the true figures, the true science or the future outcome. At least for some ministers, having had covid19 they have a realistic understanding of the illness and that we've lost so many people with it and we can't just reverse things with new words and ideas, we've got to get through it with patience and understanding.

I think you're right brue in that the handling heretofore has been more effective in the UK than in Italy and Spain in particular. We doubtless learned from their experience.
The point I am trying to make is that at some stage we (our government) need to turn the focus from what has happened in the past to what might happen in the future - the so called "exit strategy" that has been called for.
And here is the problem - what I described as my "fear" at the start of the current exchange - we have had several posts on the forum about the increase in traffic over the past week. When I walk the dogs here I have to cross the usually very busy A350 - last week there was hardly a car to be seen, this week there is a steady stream.There was a report on local news today of surfers flouting the rules at Polzeath. If all we (the public) get is the "more of the same" mantra with no future hope then some, maybe a considerable number, will run out of patience and just chance their arm. Sad but true and already becoming evident.
Anyway, having made my view amply clear I'll bow out for a little while (but "I will return"

Having read what Nicola has said, it sets out the grounds on which decisions will be made, what will be taken into account, but does not actually make any positive proposals. Mainly it says what we should NOT expect any time soon, and seems to be to be pretty much what anyone with any sense could reasonably expect.

Our B&Q was open for click and collect but were told when ordering "do not come to the store until you receive an email to advise your order is ready to collect"
And as the staff advised when i collected some gardening material ,could of been open, but it was a problem with social distancing that it was decided to just do click and collect
As they have now opened it must mean they have found a way to apply the regs which if like me on line is fine if you know exactly what is needed but i like to see the article first

I have been getting stuff online but not all of it is turning up. I have lost a tin of black paint and some tyre valve extensions so far. I discovered our local Toolstation is open everyday here but only for click and collect. You have to order and pay for it online and they will message you when it is your turn for collection. I believe Screwfix is doing the same. B&Q are not open around here other than for click and collect. I have been trying to buy shelving, got the supports delivered but cannot get hold of shelves without going and getting them.
I see the increase incidence of traffic which we have also noticed, made todays briefing and the news. Is it because it is a Friday?

We had to do an essential journey today in car. We drove alongside M1 at one point, very quiet, and mainly HGVs and other delivery vans. A journey that would normally take us around 45-60 minutes took a mere 15 minutes today. There were possibly a few more cars around, but then again we were heading into a big city, around lots of folks who are still working. Our only detour was to pop into an adjacent Waitrose, because there was no queue. Stocked up on a few things I couldn’t get elsewhere (no flour, no wipes, no yeast☹️) Right old dent in the card though, I wouldn’t want to shop there every time! Some items, same brand, were up to 50p dearer.
Weather is set to change this weekend, time for some indoor maintenance and projects methinks. I did complete a great jigsaw last night, wonderfully colourful. OH has decided to frame it for his bike cave!

Maybe I listened to/watched a different presentation, then? I heard a specific reference to Muslims celebrating Ramadan, specific reference to the Police action on dealing with lockdown; and a very human plea for grandparents to keep away from their grandchildren during the lockdown, so that the grandparents would be there, post pandemic, to watch their grandchildren grow up.
The First Minister also made a plea to the [mainly young] flouters of the 'no gatherings rules' to think a] about their own health; b] to think about the older person's health; c] to reflect that the older person with whom you come into contact could be your friend's mother/aunty/grandad etc and the health risks and deaths are much greater for those aged over 60.
The FM's 'population' are, in the main,very appreciative of her straight talking and her humanity. Have a look at Twitter and see a] How many Scots approve of her approach; and b] how many English posters express a wish that the FM represented them.

I don't find not using a computer strange at all TW, surprised you'd say that. How did everyone get on with that water leak while b&q were closed? I was merely saying that now that store is back open, would it be an essential journey to buy a tap washer, light bulb or whatever when other avenues are and have been since lockdown available.
Yes, I'm bored but don't be astounded TW. My van backs onto the road so I'm up early. I'm on a 17 acre site I can't touch and to keep relatively sane I have little routines that include counting the traffic! Hey, I noticed that one of the local boy racers has a misfire when changing up and it's running too rich, the farmer across the road needs to lubricate the 3 point link on his john deere and the local dpd driver has a bald tyre.
Been into town again this afternoon and there are quite a few holidaymakers about, also the locals are getting fed up with distancing, and again when telling people to give space we get a torrent of abuse.
Apart from that all good

As for how we mended our water leaks while the stores were closed, those of us with online access used their click & collect service, waited and then made the same essential car journey to pick the goods up.🤷🏻♂️
You're not having much luck with the people you meet, are you? I assume it's Looe so I'm surprised you have room in the streets to keep 2m apart😀. The locals are getting fed up with distancing, are they? Not from where I’m standing, they’re not. How many have you discussed the issue with?

Actually TW We're very involved with the local community, we volunteer with shopping, getting prescriptions delivered etc and to be fair speak with at least 30 different locals every week. It's a normal discussion regarding the selfish folk as they are all seeing it, so if you want numbers I'd say around 40 local people this week. You may view things differently but I only speak of my experience. I'm not here for an argument and I'm not here for what I see as your rather aggressive tone. Carry on point scoring mate, I'm out.

you should watch Joe Lycetts Got Your Back on channel 4 last night. It showed Hermes courier lorries turning up at auction houses where goods they claim they could not deliver for e.g. no/incorrect address , are auctioned off. The programme clearly showed that many parcels did have correct informatiion for delivery on them, in fact the presenter delivered such a parcel to the person who had ordered it, bit of a silly programme but very factual.

I'm sure it does happen, but although we have lost things in the past, since lockdown everything dispatched has arrived, however often not when expected. One, delivered by Hermes, was sent without any tracking information attached. I must admit, I thought it had been pinched, but it turned up after 3 days.😀 The only thing outstanding are seeds from Thompson and Morgan, ordered a month ago. Reading between the lines of a communication we received, they have sold more than they have. We are assured we will get them but no indication to when.☹️

Did you read the feedback on T&M SteveL? I decided not to order anything from them after reading through their reviews. Some of the plants I ordered from elsewhere have arrived 3 weeks before the first delivery date given, and in good condition, so very pleased.
