    We will make our own minds up as well as to what’s safest for us and ours. 

    Sadly I have no faith in the politicians to give the public the full truth about the country’s situation, and be totally upfront about all the aspects of the situation. They have been fudging and dodging for weeks now around testing and PPE, in terms of what is available, how fit for purpose it is, the amounts in stock, ordered, distributed, etc... Same with the testing kits. These are the two parameters that will surely lead our lockdown easing.

    We look to history to give an insight into coming out of a huge life altering event. WW2 possibly last greatest challenge, country on its knees, rationing, trying to get the economy back up and working. How the heck the politicians of those days managed to draw up, fund and implement the NHS, along with building millions of council homes to replace a lot of the slums is just staggering, and probably made the lives of our generation and a bit older what it has been. 

    What we don’t have now is the leadership, calibre of political insight, and grudging co operation to work together to make UK a better place for the majority, rather than feeding a greedy minority and throwing the rest on the work your do-dahs off or go under mentality. Resources of all kinds need sharing more.

    I agree,We have noticed in the last few days ,an increase in cars on the roads in this area,,i am sure that they are not all  an essential journey,? and that is with us still in lock down extention one,if the government bow to pressure ,from some and release it to early then it could well be an excuse for more of "those that walk amongst us" to take advantage,  and we will end up with the situation  as,in March that  gave us the  UK wide lock down 

    I note today that Mrs Merkal is very worried that some parts of Germany are opening up much to early

    We too have noticed an increase in cars on the road in recent days.  We also watched a programme on TV a couple of nights ago - can science beat the virus? - where one of the contributors from Liverpool said he had noticed an increase in cars and people walking since last Friday.

    I also think that opening up too early would undo much of what has been achieved, and we won't be going to B&Q anytime soon!!

    Just been for a walk and by the amount of traffic hereabouts I think the residents of the town must think that the government advice ‘to stay at home’ has been superseded.

    ....Living just a few miles away from the village of Eyam, the story of The Plague of 1665 was told to us at an early age...often accompanied by the song 'Ring a Ring a Roses' which referred to the rosy rash....the final 'all fall down' referred to the coughing/sneezing.....and of course in 1665 they only had vinegar as a disinfectant !!!.     If you stay at the clubs Chatsworth site, the village is just a very pleasant drive up the road via Calver and Stoney Middleton (Lovers Leap). I can recommend lunch at the local pub in Eyam :-https://www.theminersarmseyam.co.uk

    I knew nothing about it until our children did their year 6 residential stays in Derbyshire, 5 school years apart. They were in awe of the events and sacrifices, even at that age! And came home full of it, we learnt a lot from them.

    We, without the children, visited a few years back. Very very moving and scary never thought I'd be involved I something similar! I have often quoted the way this village dealt with the plague during these strange times.

    They didn't have the knowledge and communication methods we gave now but boy were they wise! Sadly it seems were are doomed if we don't study history and learn from the past 😢.

    At least we don’t have a Trump Jackanory briefing every day. 😱 He is just so worrying, borderline fantasist. Poor, poor America.

    We have been watching a fascinating documentary series about the Americas. (The Americas with Simon Reeve, BBC) Starts off in Alaska, takes in Canada, then down through US, on into Central American countries. Takes in a lot of the beautiful landscapes, some of the culture, but drills down deep into some of the environmental and welfare issues as well. You definitely don’t want to be a poor or not doing so well American......😱

    Plumbing spares, building materials to repair trip hazards, light bulbs, light fittings to replace broken/dangerous ones, tap washers, the tools needed to do all the foregoing little jobs… That’s without thinking too hard.

    We walked to the village butcher and veg shop as we have done every Friday since lock down starting. For the first time we actually had to use the pedestrian crossing lights to safely get across the road. There was significantly more traffic than other weeks.

    All sorts of things which anyone who has a house might need to make essential repairs to plumbing, heating, electrics, leaking windows or roofs etc etc.

    Yes I agree but all of that and more can be ordered online and delivered to your door, and probably cheaper!

    And yes the roads are far busier this week. 85 vehicles past site this morning between 7.00 and 9.00 compared to 30 this time last week

    They were open here for click and collect anyway, which enabled anyone needing anything desperately to get hold of it. Personally I can't see any reason to open them fully, all be it with social distancing, at this time.

    I would agree, we use mainly Toolstation and sometimes Screwfix, but sometimes, when you need to see an item to make sure you are buying the correct thing, a visit to a shop is required.   Plus not everything can be ordered up for delivery.

    Not everyone in this country uses a computer, JK, strange as you might find that, and delivered to your door isn’t a huge help when you have a plumbing leak that needs attention now.

    Anyway, we didn’t make the rules.

    Traffic? I’ve not noticed any difference here but I'm astounded you keep counting it! 😄

    If they are now open, presumably they can sell plants, although garden centres still have to remain shut.🤔

    DIY, we really, really miss our B&Q. Wickes I find more for tradesmen, although the truly in the know, good tradesmen wouldn’t touch either, as it’s not always top quality gear. We used to use B&Q for lots and f DIY stuff.

    The e mail we got said they had a "reduced range" available, but if that included plants then I expect so.  The supermarkets frequently have plants

    All our local timber merchants  are closed, so if you need a bit of wood Urgently to fix something, a DIY store is probably the only place.  We only have B&Q, the local Homebase and Wickes went ages back unfortunately.

    I need to replace a large fence panel, and make a new side gate, but that will have to Wait till our local timber place is open again.

    Roads where we are still very quiet.

    Apparently B&q never needed to close its doors to the public in the first place, it was a decision they decided to take. Now after trying to operate a click and collect system they have decided to open the stores. I should imagine the click and collect system is a bit of a logistical nightmare, trying to store large orders of material with no definite pick up time.

    I wonder how long it will be before the other DIY stores open up?    

    P.S. We did a click and collect at Asda this morning and I did notice more cars on the road than last week.

    I wonder how long it will take the fuel prices to go up once the travel restrictions are lifted?undecided

    The click and collect order wasn't picked until you turned up for collection. The guy at my local B&Q told me the queue had been up to  four and a half hours.
