Corona Virus Concerns

It’s hardly 'snitching', David, when folk are putting lives at risk. It’s a far cry from you reporting my posts which is something you claim to have done numerous times. You consider that not to be 'snitching' but reporting those breaking lifesaving Govt rules is classed as such?

Whilst we're abiding by the Coronavirus restrictions, my brother posted on Facebook that motorhomers are arriving in Cornwall and parking at the sea as all campsites are closed. This is despite the Devon & Cornwall Police stating that they will be patrolling the roads and sending visitors home, and the Cornwall Tourism Officer asking second home-owners to stay away and letting agencies, not to mention Air B&Bs not to accept bookings. As usual this hasn't reached the ears of the selfish who insist that their enjoyment is a much greater priority than heeding the government's warnings about unnecessary travel. Cornwall's NHS is seriously overburdened at the best of times without these ignoramuses making things worse. I would like to assume that none of those flouting the restrictions are not members of C & MC, but I wonder...

Well as for your first point, I do know what that refers to but it seemed apparent to me, maybe incorrectly, that it was a tongue in cheek comment.
As to your second point, I must admit I'm not fully familiar with life in Germany under the Stasi, but I doubt reports to them were made in an effort to save lifes.
I really don't understand why you have to attempt to make an issue of something on which we basically agree 100% - everyone should be staying at home and only going out for essential purposes - we do agree on that don't we?

Same with us, Metheven. Just hope that don't have recourse to use the system.

If people are still letting out holiday homes it will be the local Trading Standard who will be responsible for investigating and shutting the business down. As a TS officer for over 25 years I can assure you it won't be seen as snitching if you report these businesses. We always needed the public to inform us of wrong doing and their reports were welcomed.

For anyone needing to report such an incident in Cornwall, there is an email address and a contact form on the Council's Covid 19 page. Reports made to Crime Stoppers are also being investigated.

They were doing a good job at our local one the other day, with one of their shop assistants wiping down the handles of the trolleys and baskets before anyone took hold of them, with the usual gaps between customers being maintained before letting them in.

Pleased to hear that JVB. I think it's better to avoid public places like shops if you can. A neighbour queued for two hours outside our local chemist today, this is in another village and I can't see why they can't organise the system better. When she returned I had a request from her to put something on my Waitrose list...so that's three of us on the same delivery order now, I hope no-one else asks or the delivery chap will be over burdened.

'snitching' about who nicked your pen in class is one thing but if one 'snitch' saves one life it would be well worth it and should be done. It could be someone one of us on here cares about.

We've been thwarted. Our local Homebase was due to close in June and have had a Shop Closing Down Sale up for weeks. Needed some ready mix concrete and we decided to brave it on Wednesday. Shop now closed completely. Don't think Home Bargains do that. Might have to C&C it from B&Q but store miles away in Chester. Wonder if Welsh Police would let us back in. Can't see it being essential though so looks like job will have to wait.

I know what you mean WN: my fence isn't an essential concern......but as I'm there for the other stuff anyway I'll look out for something to paint it with, if they don't have anything then tough I suppose ....I've got my fingers crossed though as it will provide a few days worth of something to do😊

I too am staying at home. Hence, I have no personally witnessed cases to report.
Which bit of information are you referring to? Surely you’re not doubting Allan&Jean whose information we were originally discussing?

Who's done that? Living in a cul-de-sac, I'd have a very boring existence if I tried 🤣. Curtain twitching in the extreme.

Since my post this afternoon I have been otherwise engaged so only just seen some comments.
I walk past this cars location almost every day and it wasnt there prior to yesterday.
When I saw it I had no idea why it was there, or who it belonged to.
I have seen quite a few people that I don’t believe to be local but don’t know that they aren’t so there is nothing I can, or would, say or do.My view on the car was that as it could be checked by the authorities I would pass it on for them to deal with.
So far as the cottage is concerned I know it is a holiday let and there were two vehicles parked, it’s a private track to the location, and people in the garden.
I also called the letting agents, to see if they were aware, and they said they were not letting any properties and it was likely the owners or their friends. For those that have mentioned it this cottage, so far as I am aware, is not a NT property.
I have also had a reply to say the matter has been passed to the enforcement team.
I presume that if and when they check they will deal with what they find, which may be nothing that requires any further action on their part, but at least they are the right people to do so.8 -
There seems to be a misconception on the part of some folk (genuine or deliberate) that people are advocating specifically going out looking for offenders. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth and most of us don't live in holiday areas likely to see any influx of the idiots trying to get round the lock down rules. But I'm pretty sure that if I lived in such an area and noticed something which I was, shall we say, unsure about, I'd be reporting it to the relevant authorities to be investigated.
"Snitching"? "Curtain twitching"? I don't think so - simply helping the authorities to be aware of possible inappropriate actions. I can see absolutely no reason why anyone should be embarrassed about doing that any more than if you reported a possible break in to your neighbour's house or vandalism in local parks in "normal times".

You are right Mousley. It has been a regular feature on our local news with- our MP, the Police and the Council asking for locals to help them at a time when the services we pushed to the limits. They want to stop these idiots but don't have all the resources. As it could be a matter of life or death to some locals of course, if we notice it on our walks or in our own neighbourhood we will quite rightly report it. No one is going out searching for these morons. Apart from the authorities.

Good morning all (another lovely one here.)
Just to clear up any confusion over the Owain Glyndwr reference, I was someone who liked the original post, but recognised it as an attempt at black humour, as was my response. So I trust that clarifies things.
On the subject of being aware what is happening in and around local communities, I have been receiving emails and other information from our local police for the last three years. It started out because I was part of a community group set up to keep our local Park safe, and stop unsociable behaviour. It’s something that I have just found periodically useful, but thankfully have never had to use, in terms of sending a report. It’s a Borough wide initiative, anyone can receive the information. What they have added at this extraordinary time, and emphasised, is that it would be useful if locals could send information, via an official eform, which is carefully checked and isn't anonymous, about any blatant disregard of social distancing, or criminal activity. It helps them to quickly pinpoint where resources are needed, and nip in the bud, behaviour that could endanger someone else. Thankfully, to date, never had to use it, although we are having a spate of bored individuals roaring around in badly tuned vehicles looking to advertise their lack of physical prowess in other departments (if you get my drift). One of these less than bright individuals managed to pile his heap of rust into no less than seventeen other cars, all parked up and out of use.
So, I can confirm that many, if not all Police Services are asking for help to keep everyone safe, and it’s for the greater safety of the majority, rather than anything more sinister. We haven’t thankfully had any instances of over zealous officers ransacking shopping trolleys, but whether that’s lack of resources or better common sense, I can’t confirm. I work on the basis that as I am not doing anything to break the law, the law isn’t interested in me, and there’s mutual respect. 🙂
