Before his death my father in law lived 20 miles away. My wife had died much earlier but I would drive once a week 20 miles each way to F-I-L and take him shopping. I would drive him 13 miles to a supermarket, 13 miles to his home and we would have a brew and a natter after helping him unpack and then drive 13 miles home. If he were still alive I would only drive the 20 miles each way after shopping for him and would likely shop in good weather and then sit outside on a folding chair and have a natter outside his kitchen door with a provided brew. Social interaction can be important

Never mind all this discussion about travelling out of your area, what I want to know is - when can I start eating my Easter Eggs? Is it today or have I to wait till Sunday?

It’s got two decent football clubs, and a brilliant velodrome......but it’s not on my must go back list.

In fairness, those are the only 3 places I have visited. We got lost in City Centre a couple of years ago, tended to taint my views. We were puzzled by those big screens along ring roads, then we discovered how slowly traffic moves......forced into a full episode of Deadenders, with no chance of escape!🤣

Obviously concerned about all the family catching the virus but more so our daughter in law, who has had two strokes and not in the best of health. Then the phone call to say both her and our son infected.Fortunately, after about 5 days DIL recovered. However, our son, 45, fit and health, with a very physical job just went down hill, similar to how Boris seemed. Fortunately no hospital treatment required though. Today he has just rung to say he seems to be on the mend after two weeks of being very ill. We have been so worried. Our three grandchildren - one had a mild sore throat for a day, the other two teenagers, not a sign. However, it's difficult to isolate in their house, so we believe, if an antibody test could be done, it would show they have been infected without ever knowing or showing any signs. What a strange, and potentially deadly disease this is. Clearly from this the only way to protect each other is social distancing. Our grandkids obviously didn't go out, but how many people could be infected without ever knowing. Long before the Lockdown, and them becoming ill, they decided not to visit us for their regular Easter break, due to trying to protect us, 'just in case we might carry it Mum'  - wise words.

After my hot cross bun crisis a few weeks back we now have eight to eat plus a giant one from Betty's, I forgot about Easter eggs in my panic and only have one small Aero egg. frown Not like my friend who got confused about which day it was last weekend, wished everyone a Happy Easter and started on the chocolate....

So I dunno Goldie, just keep the spirits up by enjoying whatever you've got. wink

And thanks for the "sports" clip TDA, typical way to play the game. laughing

Perhaps we need to take note of this by the author James Crumley and cut our fellow journeyman some slacksmile

“Son, never trust a man who doesn’t drink because he’s probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They’re the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They’re usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they’re a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can’t trust a man who’s afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It’s damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he’s heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl.”

I always believed it to be Easter Sunday. Those for my youngest daughter and the grandkids are in the back of the X-Trail as we should have been away this week just gone

Hope it is in the shade ET, otherwise they might liquefy.

Just checked the date on the one we bought for our 2 year old grand daughter. Unfortunately they don't go over Face Time. Mr Apple needs to invent an itrans (transporter)  to go with it.😂 Hopefully the lockdown will be eased before the best berfore date at the end of June.🤞

Not something I do but because of comments about traffic I had a look at the M5 cameras, Topsham/Exeter junction where it would normally be packed today.

Many years ago when smoking was gradually stopped in working environments I remember being pleased by the human response in our office. Some while earlier I no longer smoked in work except after my morning toast and coffee (I would be at my desk 30 mins before earliest start time and generally those in my team would be an hour later. I might occasionally have a cigarette around 6.30 when others had left but I might well work until 7.30pm. Before the time of compulsion it was left to an office vote as whether to permit smoking or not. There were probably 30 people in the office and I declined to vote. The vote was unanimous to permit smoking. The reason was that we had a chap in the office who had suffered with polio in his youth and also had bad arthritis. He would struggle in on two sticks with his lower legs canted outwards. He would light a pipe after lunch and enjoy. Given all the trials and difficulties that he faced and his great personality nobody was prepared to deny him that after lunch enjoyment. It reinforced my faith in human nature.

As this thread used to be about "Concerns" can I ask if anyone has had recourse to a Dentist during the "Restrictions"?

There does seem to be some confusion about what one is supposed to do in an emergency, depending on which country your dentist happens to practice in. We're very confused here as we live in Wales but our dentist is in Chester, so do we follow Welsh guidelines or English? Fortunately we are not yet in need of one but Mrs WN did have a temporary filling put in at the beginning of March, fully expecting the work to be done at the end of this month. Our dentist has closed for the duration so if she needed it who would we turn to? I know the answer to be ring both helplines and hope for the best but wondering whether anyone has had experience of the system recently.

I can’t give you any info based on personal experience, WN, but dental problems are something I dread happening. The last I heard was that emergency dental treatment is another system that is work in progress.

Sorry no direct experience, other than the latest Email from our Dental Practice.

Closed for all treatment including emergencies, but the practice is still providing live advice by phone including how to get emergency treatment for its patients.

At least for the moment someone within the practice to speak to.

I spoke to my dentist the week beginning 23 March, might be a bit out on the date, time is doing funny things! I was at the dentist for a check up on 12th all good, in fact he said how pleased he was with them! Fatal mistake! I have very sensitive teeth and just as this all begin to kick off I was aware of one of mine - still am, putting sensitive toothpaste on it and leaving it, not biting on it etc fingers crossed.

Long story short they were still working through the guidelines and discussing within the practice, but they would do their best within the guidelines. My dentist felt I'd probably been grinding them he knows me well after 32 years 😉. But gave me his mobile number to call if I needed to. I said to him my 80 yr old aunt, uses another practice, had been told to call 111 if the tooth she was to have work on played up when her appointment was cancelled it would only be pain relief. He thought that awful with all the problems 111 would have! We are both Denplan or Simply Health I think their new name,  very different responses. Maybe you should call after Easter to see your practice's take?

WN, our middle grandson in Warwicks is walking around with tooth pain, advised to pick up a "filler" from chemist, something you can pack into a cracked or missing filling. Taking some spare anitbiotics floating around at home just in case they work. Can't be seen unless a swelling develops (an abscess, by which time he could have a severe infection...frown) Not good, so look after your teeth. undecided

I am amazed by the adverts that are appearing on my fb generally

Hire a bubble spa availability this weekend

And a selling site, the only one of 3 I am on to sell motorhome bits. 2 have stopped all but essential items,  I've yet to see anything on either.

Folks wanting spas for collection today! Clothes, shoes, funiture, bikes, greehouses, sofas, beds, etc etc selling in fact everything that was being advertised before. Although the closed site has our city name, and i understood you beeded to be lical to join, items for sale are from all over the county and neighbouring ones 😲

I will certainly come off of that site it's doing my blood pressure no good 😉

I’m not a teetotaller, but I do find wading through the vomit, blood and drink induced injuries at A&E departments very trying. It stems from spending hours and hours waiting for attention for my now deceased father, to get the care he requires, while watching drink sodden individuals abusing A&E staff and police officers. They weren’t all young and working class either...........

Similar to driving somewhere in a lockdown to me, getting drunk, needing A&E. Some will, some won’t......
