I have found that the smallest queues at our local shops are during lunchtime, when presumably everyone is at home eating!
Our local Aldi has been well stocked throughout the last few weeks, only experiencing temporary shortages of loo roll and pasta during the initial panic buying frenzy. It feels very strange talking to the checkout staff through a plastic "window" though.

Our local Co op seems to be getting back to normal with deliveries (about 3 lorries a day )+ milk and bread lorries,it is well stocked now ,,went there this morning and they are now back to baking their "fresh?"rolls and bread ,as the manager says , those who cleared the shops in their panic, will be at it again after next weekend , when they find out the lock down is not ending

We’re in between town and villages. No shops or pub, so usually drive 7 miles to shop (not the nearest supermarket, but the best, Booths).
But being over 70 we are not doing that, but shopping online at Asda. So far I’ve managed to get deliveries, which I share with our daughter in law (next door).
And I’ve always been a hoarder (not stockpiler!) so have plenty of reserves in the freezer and pantry.
But there is a whiff of danger in getting unlabelled leftovers out of the freezer. Today the tasty mince turned out to be a very muddy tasting lentil mush. Why did I bother saving it in the first place?

Goldie we have a lot of unidentifiable bags in our freezer. Curries and mince meals done in bulk seem to merge into the same colour. The one good thing is my dogged insistence on freezing roasted tomatoes from our greenhouse, there are usually spare bags left over after a few months but this time round they are being used. Same for chunks of peeled cooking apples.
Still no bread flour...but a bag of spelt flour has been substituted by Waitrose today. I've only tried spelt bread in sandwiches in a local café, now what to do with it...better look in the bread thread?! (Thankyou Roger Saul for growing this as you can't eat Mulberry Handbags...not that I've got one of those either.

I doubt that Aldi have any better supply chain compared to other supermarkets but their main advantage in the current crisis is that they don't have a home delivery service. Most of the big name supermarkets are trying to satisfy both instore and online demand and that is why their supply lines have come under a lot more pressure. Apart from Ocado, who have a dedicated warehouse/s, virtually all the online deliveries are picked in the local branch which adds even more pressure on instore stock levels.
As we are self isolating we are not going to the shops so however well any of them are stocked doesn't particularly make a difference to us. Fortunately we had a nice big delivery from Waitrose this morning which has managed to restock most of the things we were running short of. Even got a couple of packs of toilet rolls, shouldn't need anymore for a while!!!

I too have had issues of not easily identified bags, chops for a swift-ish dinner turned out to be skirt for slow cooking! Not a complete disaster as only us 2 and so it was eggs. Remember those days when you could just grab an alternative?? So in These troubled times I take care to label. It took a while to locate my chinagraph pencil and get a point on it!
Not as bad as my poor late departed nan. My mum took her a mincemeat pie. She was thrilled taste buds going gravy made - it was sweet mincemeat as she discovered when she cut it open. 🤔 fortunately before adding the gravy. Oh how we laughed! But we are that sort of a family 😂. One Christmas she removed her false teeth urghh and held them in her hand whilst she had a doze her nasty children, I can't remember which one, removed them tied them up with string and pegged them to the curtain. We 8 grand kids were amusing ourselves elsewhere but the hilarity from the grown ups was unbelievable. See not nice to know!
Brue spelt flour is much better for your digestion apparently. I don't think it tastes bad.

So far we have been managing to get on line delivery slots every two weeks. The first from Waitrose, tomorrow's from Tesco. We are under 70 so Waitrose slots are now impossible to get. Not that Tesco slots are that easy, but they are at least still possible if you persevere. We did try Tesco store on OAP's hour last Wednesday. It was OK but I would prefer to avoid if I can get a home delivery or click and collect. We have a small Coop in the village and butchers and veg shop, which we use. The butchers and veg shop are one man bands so could of course cease operating at any time. In normal times we like to shop for the offers, so the freezer is always well stocked. Our aim is to try and keep this in reserve in case we have to self isolate and can't get deliveries.
Our very old freezer indicated it was in need of replacing, before this all kicked off. Fortunately fast freeze kept everything OK for 3 days until the new one arrived. Swapping stuff over did give us a chance to try and identify some of the dubious looking bags that weren't labelled or had lost them. Most seemed to be soups that I had constructed.😂

We noticed when we were allowed to get out and about ,it depended which Co op we used , Ours is now the Blue signs Co op,ltd? but in some areas there are still "private?" Co ops , ours was Mid Counties,and there is Anglia Co Ops still in Norfolk, all with the Yellow /Green signage,it could be the way they are run,?
When at Peterborough the Orton Centre Co op is Anglia Co op? but the new one on the Oundle road towards the city centre is a Blue signed Co op ltd

Well I've had an email from Waitrose re online ordering, very swift as only sent at the weekend. The main important bit quoted below. No surprise really. Maybe if we lived in a less populated area or had more Waitrose stores locally it would be different. We actually had one when they built a new precinct but they left because the car parking wasn't theirs or great. They bought the old post office sorting office to develop but eventually pulled out before building anything a few years back. That's now going to be flats 😲
We have started to offer our elderly customers priority access to Waitrose.com. The demand for these slots is very high and we know we wont be able to reach everybody - as we simply don't have the capacity to offer slots to all. Were currently working through this in a number of ways to help as many customers as we can who need our help.
We currently only have the ability to deliver a set number of orders, and we are working hard to increase the number of deliveries in the coming weeks to support as many customers as we can who need our help.Sadly/luckily we don't qualify as elderly yet - who knows we may do by the time this is all over??? OH is in the highly vulnerable.
Oh well back to trying whenever nature decides I need to use the bathroom overnight 😂😂

I have tried five nights running to get a home delivery slot, mainly to make sure I can get stuff for Mum. But I have given up now. Will just do the Corona-run once a fortnight. In between for fresh stuff use veg and fruit boxes.
We ain’t starving, and we know how to be creative cooks with whatever we have in the house, luckily no allergies, children or too many “don’t likes” to cater for, other than we never buy meat. 😁 Far more important that those who are very vulnerable get priority. 👍

Steve you were lucky to get the new freezer just in time. The door on our upright freezer is beginning to fail and one of the drawers broke yesterday. Tried Currys, AO online and local Euronics and only biggest and most expensive upright freezers now in stock with all rest either on order or unavailable. Deliveries only made to outside door in general as you would expect in circumstances so have had to do temporary repair until this is over so hope it holds out.
Been food shopping this afternoon. Our Aldi, Asda and M & S Food all in same area. Queue at Aldi went full length of outside of store and beyond and Asda snaked around car park but new M & S Food only 6 in queue and whilst variety is limited almost fully stocked so got what we needed.

I had a sandwich awhile back, made from spelt bread, I enjoyed it but it was a lot heavier than wholemeal. Nice taste though.
B2, well at least you tried and got a message back. Have you had the NHS at risk letter yet, it seems to be taking a long time to reach those who need it and will help to get on line orders.
We've found out that a later diagnosed Covid19 patient, who sadly died, went into our local medical centre a few days ago. The local surgeries are sharing patient visits which means people are moving out of their home areas for appointments.

I've just read Boris has been transferred to intensive care. Thoughts are with him and his family. Hopefully this will make folk see it doesn't matter who you are it can happen to you!

OH brue it goes to show this is all a very steep learning curve and we should all stay at home! The doctors are trying to do their best but we've never been here before, well not since the likes of the plague! I'm certainly not planning on visiting doctors or hospital unless there is ABSOLUTELY no alternative.
I do have to collect some prescription drugs later this week. I can go in the car, the windows are full length and I aim to be the only person in there. I'll be armed with my mild bleach solution and cloth!.......
No we dont have any letter re health, just going to hope friends and neighbours can keep up their good work.

I've filled it out again, they say there will be no confirmation email. I suspect that whilst I'm ok there wouldn't be help?? It talks about food allergies and parcels being left on the doorstep for now.
You will not receive an email or text message to confirm that you’ve registered.
If you have not received a letter from the NHS or been contacted by your GP or hospital clinician, you should contact them to confirm that you’re considered extremely vulnerable. You may not get the support you need if you do not contact them.
What happens next
You’ll only get support if you asked for it and you have a medical condition which makes you extremely vulnerable to coronavirus.It may take time for you to get support. If you have urgent care or support needs then contact your local authority. Contact your GP or hospital clinician directly if you have urgent medical needs.
Wherever possible you should continue to rely on friends, family and wider support to help you meet your needs.
There’s also guidance on shielding and things you should do if you’re extremely vulnerable to coronavirus.
One of the questions asks if you have friends neighbours to assist. You can register for someone else, so maybe you should register them brue, their family may just say yes they have help!!

The boots pharmacy on the isle only allows 1 person in at a time, there are Perspex screens to protect the staff and visitors.
The staff have placed chairs outside at 3 m intervals so those that are unable to stand can sit and wait. If the pharmacy is very busy with a longer queue outside, a staff member collates everyone's names then collects their scripts for them, or at least has them ready in advance as you get nearer the front, Quite an efficient system. we were there less than 5 mins to collect OH scripts.
All the other shops are using the distancing and restriction of numbers that seems to be the norm now there are still shortage of items on some of the shelves but nothing to be concerned about.
Took Bramble our dawg to the heights again today the council have listened and placed large stone blocks across all the parking areas, except one which has 3 'travellers' vans pitched on it. Bramble hates hands so will not let anyone touch him anyway so no CVD risk from him!
I was speaking to a delivery van driver this afternoon about traffic, he said the main roads are empty but driving through town (Weymouth) it was as busy as ever! However the beach was empty......
A hotel in Weymouth (Rembrant) has now turned into a minor hospital to help free up beds, I think it is for long term elderly patients which in a way will remove them from the potential for covid at a mainstream hospital. They are getting 5 star hotel meals instead of hospital food as a bonus.

I think we are the same in reality Wherenext. Like you a nocturnal call of nature means a complete wake up and log on. Chuck a few bits in the basket to secure the slot and back to sleep. Gee reminds my of very early days of parenthood - well actually its quieter 😂😂😂
Good job we're not close neighbours we could be the subject of unwanted gossip 😱 😉😂
