Coronavirus: Stay or go

Sadly all the long standing weaknesses within our economy, our treatment of the vulnerable, our NHS capacity, our Government’s (of all parties) worship of profit above all is meaning that a deadly situation is becoming even worse for some. We are having to play catch up, make do, try our best from a much lower pedestal than many other countries. Fingers crossed we pull through as best we can.☹️

we also 'isolate in our garden' (amazingly, just like you do) and weve taken 'isolated walks with sensible precautions' (as if others cant/dont) yet, despite having no symptoms, neither of us (you nor i) actually know if we carry the virus, picked up the last time we popped out and 'took precautions'?
....so should we 'quarantine' every time we're 'out there' as those who've been away 'should'?
my point is, are either of us 'more likely' than the other....? we just dont know.
either way, it has nothing to do with where we overwintered, weve never had symptoms and have actually self isolated for as long as you have...
unfortunately, this now seems to be the latest of many recent 'sticks' on CT...
surely, we are all doing 'whatever it takes' without the constant preaching from some.

well for todays exercise i thought i would walk into Stubbers with dog and check out just how busy or not where the shops, although OH moved to Mums i still have to think about fido, if i get sick who takes care of him.
Stubbers dead, greengrocers which is difficult to keep seperation due to size, 2 people, got enough veg and fruit for at least 1 week, trying to avoid weekend shopping when it may be busier, Coop only bought newspaper but very few people and shelves looked to be reasonably well stocked, Iceland 2 guys on door supervising seperation, redundant, nobody queueing did not go in so not sure how well stocked .
on the question of returning from abroad and self isolating, tend to agree with BB, if you have been in your van for 7 days and had no physical contact with others then you should be ok, i thought you only need to SI if you have been in contact with somebody who is ill or has symptoms, or maybe returning by air where you are sat in a confined space . On returning from shopping i scrub hands and hang coat in garage. Is anybody wiping all the containers down before putting shopping away, you should, shelf stacker could be contaminated and what about the dog

Prince Charles has tested positive for coronavirus and has traveled to Scotland to self isolate. But, we're OK because he didn't travel by motorhome or caravan, although he did use local NHS hospital services ...

To the deniers its Isolation or Quarantine, play on words. It was just COMMON SENSE for someone returning from Cyprus to stay in their main home at least for say 7 days. Why put the vulnerable in areas with the least Health capacity? Which bit of COMMON SENSE dont you get. History has shown us that it was human movement that is the greatest risk to us all in this epidemic.

They might be Club volunteers, helping with security etc..... we had friends who were volunteers, they arrived pre bookings, and departed well after site closed.
The advice from most countries overseas, such as Australia, is that anyone arriving home from overseas should self isolate. Our Government is being rather obtuse at the moment, take construction workers as an example. It needs ramping up, not least to help the NHS.
Pets have shown no signs of Coronavirus as far as I am aware, but we stopped anyone touching our pooch last week. He usually gets lots of pats and hellos, but not at the moment. It isn’t hard, as I walk him at a very quiet time, and we are usually hundreds of metres from anyone else. Better safe than sorry. Common sense to me.

I think we may try the local Tesco store for our weekly shopping this time. You never know, if it's a new cashier, we may be offered a cheap pint ...

Cyprus has 123 cases and no deaths....
UK has 8077 cases and 422 deaths....
who is in denial?
i think id rather be in Cyprus and have any UK traveller put in quarantine.
"The advice from most countries overseas, such as Australia, is that anyone arriving home from overseas should self isolate"
but everyone is self isolating....thise are the current rules....irrespective of whether you've come from a low risk area like Cyprus to a hot spot like the UK....
none of us are allowed out except under special circumstances...these rules are for all of us arent they...
which part of this dont the deniers get?

Pretty sure that people have been told that travelling to a second home is non essential travel, especially when it means they will put extra strain on areas with less resources, so I would agree they should have gone home......and stayed there. Not just for 7 days, but until this is over.
We have friends who live in a very rural area of North Wales, they have a long way to go to a doctor, much longer way to a hospital, and also a long way to shops. They are in their 70s, in poor health, we worry about them as they have no relatives to look after them.

Just had an email from a friend who lives in two villages from us and said there are 9 confirmed cases in Cahors and all from Paris in their second homes so not only a UK problem and folk have been told to stay in their own homes not to travel to second homes.
Stay safe folks.

how can anyone know who the 9 cases are and where they come from?
there are 15 cases in Somerset, how could i possibly know who they are, where they live, etc....
patient confidentiality?....always nice to know all pur personal details are safe and well and being bandied on a forum near you....

do you think any system would announce who the cases are and where they have other homes? really.....?
however many cases there are in a 'wider' west country (or other) area, this makes no difference in knowing who the cases belong to, let along their personal backgrounds...
imho speculative (and wholly inaccurate) information...
perhaps if i call the helpline theyll tell me who the Somerset cases belong to and then we can start sorting out the ones who 'shouldnt be in our area'.
ye Gods, what are we getting to.....
just stick with the rules, stay as safe as you can and get on with your life without trying to persecute certain folk...
this is rapidly becoming an infected thread with the number of 'nasty' posts rising exponentially...

dont know about stay or go, looks to me as some are running like rats from a sinking ship, mother in law went into "sheltered accomodation " many years ago, she is 93 and almost blind now, but manages to live alone with a lot of support, used to have a warden live on site, some time later warden made part time and vacated apartment re classified as "assisted living" this week re classified as "independant living" warden told to work from home, gave mother in law her mobile number and vanished. Mum can just about to manage to use speed dial on her very large telephone,we could end up like Italy old folk dying in their beds in care homes after carers did a runner

When we came back from Lanzarote a week ago we didn't go into quarantine either. No mention of it at the airport and to be honest there are far more cases here locally than was on the whole Island. We have taken the necessary precautions and while continue to do so.

absolutely, TG....stay safe, both

What is more worrying for me is what is the ‘exit strategy’ for us all after the magic 12 weeks. This virus won’t have magically disappeared by then, it will still be here and still waiting to infect. Do hope I’m wrong but without an effective vaccine (12/18 months away) this could conceivably continue for a lot, lot longer yet. 🥴😱

There are reports emerging that other strains of virus from the same 'family' do not normally infect people once the weather warms up. But, guess what? Coronavirus doesn't have this characteristic so we could see infections continue and even surge as reinfections occur and the discipline of self isolation starts to slip ...
Scotland has announced its own Expert Advisory Group to enable it to detect infection spread patterns since these may well be different from those in England, so care, detection, recovery regimes et al may diverge. This suggests that nobody thinks that, after 12 weeks, the clock strikes midnight and Cinderella can go to the Ball!

12 weeks is a staging point. Within the 12 weeks global info will have been collated. A possible game plan will be under discussion & a further ‘exit strategy’ in place. It’s all new ground.

Excuse me BB but you are just getting into harrumphing mode!
Nobody mentioned names, just a town, a number and normal place of residence.
We have family friends in Bristol, who came back not long ago on a flight from the EU shared with a big group of travellers from another part of the UK where the virus had become more prevalent. They have just been tested for the virus after being unwell and they have antibodies indicating that they have had it. This is three weeks after their travel.
You have been sensible and are staying at home, our friends did too. That's the big message stay at home. Personally I hope tests will increase to see who has had it and who hasn't yet (the last group being the vulnerable group of whatever age or health.)
