Warranties - Using Club Influence for Members
There will be many members whose Caravans or Motorhomes are going to need to be serviced to comply with and safeguard their warranties.
Can the club use their influence, if they have any, to ask all of the manufacturers to extend these warranty deadlines by the same time as the Government deem unnecessary travel to be in force? This would be acting in the interests of their members, particularly those who have been specifically asked to stay indoors for the next 12 weeks.
I cannot see this type of travel as falling within the definition of essential, although it is quite possible that motor vehicles will still need MoTs. Nothing heard yet about what steps the DoT will take on them.

My car is due an MOT. I certainly can't argue it's essential, particularly as we have a second and can walk to the local COOP. I think you are allowed to drive it for an MOT without one.🤔 It can therefore sit on the drive until restrictions are lifted. I will just have to charge the battery occasionally, if it goes on for months. Not sure of the legality if it was parked on the road. I assume in the fullness of time some information will be forthcoming.

Hi I am in same position, heard this morning garages can stay open so hoping the garage will collect and drop off after service and test.
I looked at parking it up on drive like you but think you still have to sorn the vehicles tax which is done on line then retax when ready to take car to be mot
What a lot of messing about, sure someone will correct me if I have got it wrong I also think a vehicle cannot be kept on the road legally without a mot certified

I can only find info about approval tests being suspended, not MOTs. What is the source of this, please, JV?

I assume that caravan dealers will be closing and as such no where to have your outfit serviced? Will mobile services still be allowed? I would think not.
So surely the likes of Swift will give some leeway on warrenty rules?

I spoke with an owner of a Bailey caravan today and his caravan was due in for a service in the next week or so. The local dealers have closed their workshop but informed him that they, the dealers, have been told that warranty will be extended due to the crisis. His dealer has optimistically booked him in for a new service in early June.
The dealer reassured him that they have confirmation of his original booking but I do wonder about those that have mobile services and/or do not have their service booked yet.
I also wonder if Bailey will issue an official statement.

According to BBC News Website, the position on MOTs for Cars, Vans and other private vehicles is 'under review' [perhaps they're expecting an announcement soon? Otherwise Beeb would say 'Car MOT requirements remain in force'?]

Our local garage said this morning that it is currently business as normal in respect of cars and vans until they hear otherwise. Therefore, we either have to SORN or MOT them to stay legal.
Found it, JV, it’s the DVSA section of gov.uk.

Had an email from the garage where my XTrail is booked for a service and MOT. They are closed except for priority workers. All other bookings are to be rearranged. (They will contact me) It says for after the 13/4. However, I suspect it will be a considerable time after that date before restrictions are lifted. I suspect this might be the case with a lot of garages, as they will be short of staff and of course have to maintain social distancing. I brought the MOT / service forward a couple of years ago, to avoid when we were away, so my road fund tax does not run out until the end of May, so no need to consider SORN until then.

Hi everyone,
I have some links below from manufacturers regarding warranties and services. These are the ones we are currently aware of:
www.baileyofbristol.co.uk/news-events/covid-19-update-from-bailey-of-bristol
www.elddis.co.uk/hub/article/550/servicing-your-vehicle

I hope this is helpful and we will post here if we see any more.

As already mentioned by Burgundy, there has also been an government announcement today about granting an MOT temporary exemption so that if your MOT is due from 30th March 2020 you will automatically receive a six-month extension. It is also advised that you must still keep your car in a roadworthy condition and garages will remain open if you need repairs.

We are in the process of getting all info. Coachman have now also advised their customers. See below:

All garages are not open - my VW service dept, with whom I have a service plan, are closed until the end of April and there is no indication whether this date might be extended. As my annual service (already booked) is due by the end of May I do have some leeway to go beyond this for essential use. My first MoT is due by 30th May, and the government’s six months grace does free up any urgency. If I do find any need to visit a garage, then I would have to visit whatever is available - which would be very unfortunate for a 3-year-old car with less than 13,000 miles on the clock.

Repair garages are able to remain open but some have chosen to close.

Le Touriste, have you registered your account with VAG UK online? I received an email about a week ago, inviting me to register. I was then able to contact VW UK by email to raise a couple of queries which were answered within 48 hours.
I've just checked the website and seen the 'To protect our employees, phone lines closed' message, so email is the best option.
VWCVFinanceCustomerServices@vwfs.co.uk email address. They will probably reply with about a dozen questions to verify your identity and the vehicle but, after that, the service is very efficient.
