We’ve a ferry crossing to Spain booked for early June, but pretty sure we will have to cancel or reschedule. Maybe the situation will have improved by then, or maybe as an “over 70”, (only just), I’ll  be confined to the house for 3 months 😱.

Amazing really, that in spite of the fantastic progress in modern medicine, an organism as minute as a virus can still cause so much harm.

    Stay safe, everyone.

Just one visit to a supermarket e.g. where you come into contact with the virus could make you a carrier, you then go to a destination with your L/V make contact with the site owner or even just 1 person out walking or people on site and you run the risk of now contaminating others ,

But the same will happen if WH were at home and he will be in contact with more people at home (as you just said) and hence more people to spread the virus with.

I think the less people you come into contact with the better, as if WH does that then good, isn't it? Is one area more likely to have the virus than another? Population density...

correct, but as a mobile carrier he could be spreading it to an area that has not already been in contact with the virus. e.g. I live by the coast and to the best of my knowledge we have no cases of coronavirus in the area, if somebody now parks their LV on our seafront that has travelled from an area where there is a coronavirus outbreak then there is a good chance they will cause an outbreak in our area  .

sorry i think travelling in your L/v from whereever to whereever is not necessary, it is a leisure pursuit, stay at home

From what I’ve read, only people who are hospitalised are now being tested for the virus, others with symptoms are being advised to self isolate.

Maybe the chap’s wife is in hospital. Pretty grim for them both, whatever.

Why would you wish to be in the caravan at 40 degs? It does cool off in the evening you know!

Which areas do you think that the virus will not already have reached?

WN, although I fall into the 'stay at home' group and have agreed with Ruffs on several points, you are a classic example of why I said in an earlier post that there’s no one size fits all solution.

Your awareness and thoughtfulness could well serve as an example to others.👍🏻

Am I  totally mad, there is a part of me that thinks bring it on. Let me catch it and get it over with so that I can get on with life.

Neither of us has any medical issues, fairly fit and healthy, under 70.  Just the 2 of us at home (once we get back) no other responsibilities to consider.

The thought of just putting it off all the time feels a bit like someone is playing Russian Roulette with me.

It’s not just the inconvenience and unpleasantness of you getting it, TG, but the fact that you could infect many others, including the vulnerable, before realising that you’re infected.

    Mad? I couldn’t possibly comment. 😎

so you think it is perfectly ok for 1 million Lv's to roam the country possibly spreading this virus when 50 million are in partial lock down and staying as close to home as possible with a view to not spreading the virus undecided

figures are only example figures as i have no idea how many Lv's are touring or how many people are trying to prevent a major outbreak of this virus, as i said check out what is now happening in Spain we are very close to being in the same situation when you will be forced to stay at home

your are perfectly correct re supermarket chaos etc but does this jusitify your need to go roaming, a gathering of 500  people or just one person can spread the virus

It's a sobering thought TG but the 59 year old person who sadly died in the Bristol Royal Infirmary this weekend contracted the virus after returning from the Canary Islands at the end of February.

yes i know but would you have a guess at just by how much and when the caravan is been in direct sunlight for most of the day i can assure you even when the sun goes down it remains very hot.

not really, as i have said, simply watch the news reports coming out of Spain, and having a daughter living and working in Spain i do have some direct info, believe me we are not far behind Spain. Yes i am by no means the perfect role model for all of this, but at least my LV is firmly achored to my hardstanding alongside my bungalow.

Knowing it could be passed to others is a problem, its just a part of me thinks if we are going to get it at some point. Looking more likely each day, then why not now instead of later when the weather is better and more folk wanting to be out doing things. Just my forward planning organised mind that thinks ok so if I get it now, then I  will be fit and well when the nice weather comes.smile Having to put ones life on hold indefinitely is PITA.

Watching countryfile weather just now, self isolating could be a good idea for those north of the border laughing

Each to their own, TG, but personally, I would prefer not to catch it.

Don’t really want to catch any other nasty illnesses either. Much prefer to be virus free for as long as possible.

    🙂🙂🙂

TW, I didn't put any links as it's an awful event for his family who are also self isolating. The virus may have been around longer than people think and I'm pointing out the need to be aware. I'd hate to think that people who had underlying health problems were  dismissed because healthy people will also be vulnerable too.  Ask not for whom the bell tolls!

I am well aware of news reports and the seriousness of the situation and the fact that (as far as I am concerned) the UK government needs to act more.

On third of April I hope to take youngest daughter and two grandkids on holiday. I have rented a three bedroom house. There are a few activiyies/walks etc that we can indulge in without contact. I will no doubt shop there as I would here. Not ideal but a change

That is why this situation needs to be put in perspective, this virus has not claimed the lives of perfectly healthy people , sad that some have died ,but did have complications in the first place

It certainly is awful, Brue, but I suspect his family are more likely to read the paper than CT and I was attempting to reassure TG.

Most of the Spanish sites we have stayed on have plenty of shade, either trees or canopies, sometimes both. Never stayed anywhere in Spain where the ‘van has been in direct sunlight for most of the day.

I’ve even heard fellow campers complain that there’s too much shade!

Yes, saw that earlier must have been on a different island to me as we have only had 2 cases so far on Thursday, a couple from Madridyell now in isolation.

Probably shouldn't tempt fate but not overly worried for myself and OH,  might be poorly for awhile just hope we are as fit as we think we are.

Speaking to my neice this morning who works in a GP practice,  the authorities are looking for volunteers to be infected with the virus. Paid and looked after in a 5* medical facility, observed 24/7 following all stages of the infection.
